Stayed here for a conference in November and the location was fantastic. I parked my car and walked everywhere. The wharf is a few steps away as well as the ped/bike trail that goes for miles; one could walk to cannery row and the aquarium. There was a Starbucks across the street and a crepe place right next to the... More

The Portola was attractively priced, which is why I initially chose it. It's in a very central location and you can walk to many attractions from the hotel. The rooms were very nice. The only negative was the "deck" was in an interior space within the structure. It's quite a large hotel and has all of the amenities you'd want... More

Unfortunately the hotel Portola was under renovation when we stayed there but it was the conference center so it was no so annoying. The front desk has been moved so it was a little bit less fancy than expected but we got amazing home made cookies when we checked-in. We asked a king bed room but they were sold out... More

The Portola is a incredible hotel as it is located right in the heart of Monterey next to everything in terms of downtown. We were able to enjoy the hotel bar, the wharf, and local stores/restaurants all within a short walk. Additionally, for anyone visiting Monterey for the first time, I highly recommend the 17 mile drive which starts just... More

My 7-year-old son and I got away for a few nights for Thanksgiving while my husband was traveling. We really like the Portola Hotel location really close to fisherman's wharf. Be warned, it is currently undergoing a major renovations so it is not as nice right now. However, the construction didn't bother us or interfere with our stay. We got... More

The hotel is a big aged. I checked in to a friendly staff and a warm cookie. Then porceeded to my room only to be stuck in an elevator for 20 minutes with the alarm sounding. The manager was very kind in the end and comp'ed me a free night stay. The room was very comfortable, but there was no... More

In spite of construction issues (no lobby and confusing expensive parking) our family had a great visit. Jaime in Jack's restaurant is a fantastic waiter and housekeeping did a great job of clean fresh rooms. Location next to Fisherman Wharf and Historic Park is excellent. Bike/walking paths right outside the door. Fresh warm cookies at check in a delight. Mike... More

Enjoyed Thanksgiving while at the hotel. While construction underway in the lobby and adjoining convention center, we found there no impact to our stay. In fact, the rooms were better than expected - roomy, quiet, well kept with modern and spacious bathroom Given the construction inconvenience the hotel staff added breakfast to our stay for free. To our surprise, breakfast... More

This hotel rooms DO NOT have air-conditioning only a heater, I'm sure we were there on the hottest day of the year. Luckily, the window opened... but we were next to the parking garage so it was noisy all night. The WiFi signal sucked, an my devices kept dropping.

This is a pet friendly hotel. We stayed in a room with a patio which was wonderful for our new "puppy" who could go in and out as necessary. We didn't have to get up in the middle of the night to walk him as he could use the grassy area in the patio and there was a drain in... More
