We used this hotel as a base for driving around and hiking in Big Sur and it was a great base for doing just that. The hotel is very close to Highway 1 so it was very easy to start our trips each day. Also nice that there are lots of restaurants and food options in Monterey close to the hotel for dinner options at night after a long day of sight seeing and hiking. Staff are helpful and welcoming. The room was clean and spacious. Breakfast was also fresh and reliable. We did not have to pay extra for parking and was always able to find a parking spot at the end of the day.

Hotel's Favourite
This was a great location for a quick getaway to Monterey. It is right in front of the Monterey Coastal Trail, a bike/pedestrian path that goes all the way to Pacific Grove. We brought our bikes and were able to ride down to the old wharf in about 20 minutes and 40 minutes down to the Aquarium. Walking it took us about 45 minutes or so to get to the wharf area. It was nice to not have to deal with parking and the weather was great for walking/biking with layers. The staff was super friendly and our room was clean and modern. The breakfast was fine, standard Hampton Inn fare with eggs, sausage, yogurt, cereal etc. as well as the very popular waffle machine. Definitely a great place to stay in this beautiful area.

The beds were the worst I’ve ever slept in at a hotel. They were very hard and springy. The only good benefit at this hotel was the free parking and the good proximity to the downtown Monterey area. I won’t be staying here again

I was in town for a Housing Summit at the Asilomar Conference Center. Not knowing the area at all, I had to rely on reviews. I chose the Hampton Inn as it was close by and reasonably priced. As with all Hampton Inn, breakfast is provided and the coffee is always hot and delicious. I could not believe how big the rooms were and the bed was extremely comfortable. My colleague and I talked about it the next morning as we slept the best we had in a long time. Parking is easy and the hotel is located right along a paved trail for easy walking if you want to take a jaunt downtown. I would highly recommend!

I was on the fence about posting a negative review in a pandemic/post pandemic time since all service oriented businesses are suffering, but the hotel has ignored my formal complaints through Hilton, even after Hilton's customer service emailed me twice saying the hotel will be in contact with you... they simply don't care. This has got to be the worst experience I've ever had with a hotel. Booked the room months in advance and I am a gold honors member... The day of our arrival, I get an email saying my card on my Honors app is expired and needed to be updated by either calling or updating it online.. This was around 11am, so at 11:30am, I updated the card online through my Honors app and felt everything was fine after that. This was a two night stay, a family road trip, six driving hours from home. We arrived in Monterey around 8:30pm and the kids were hungry, stopped down the street from the hotel to eat before checking in. While dining, I see another email from the hotel sent at 4pm, saying if they don't hear from me by 5pm, they are going to cancel the reservation. Of course I wasn't checking my emails while driving 6 hours.... So I called the hotel around 9:00pm from the restaurant and the agent who was not apologetic at all, said, "we are sold out and it's your fault that we had to cancel your reservation". I was in total disbelief of what I was hearing and of course, all hotels in the area, even non-Hilton properties were sold out except for the Embassy Suites around the corner from this Hampton, selling for $500 a night x 2 nights compared to the $100 that I would have spent at the Hampton. So instead of driving another 35 miles away to the closest hotel that had availability, I ended up spending a lot more and luckily I had around 120,000 honors points saved to bring the Embassy rate down to about $150 a night. Family trip was almost ruined. Do yourself a favor and stay at the Embassy Suites... It ended up being a better hotel and experience anyway.... My family and I are very thankful the Embassy still had a few rooms left. I'm sure the staff will ignore this review as well but I'm hoping it will help other travelers in the future. Hampton Inn Monterey management and owners, shame on you, I hope you were able to double or at least triple the revenue from the one room by replacing my lower rate with a higher one that night. …

I am also happy to read that you enjoyed your stay at the Embassy Suites with your family -- they are a lovely property, and I am glad to know that you were able to find a room there. There is nothing I can say that will make up for the cancellation of your reservation and the resulting hardship for you and your family. It is regrettable that updating payment information through Hilton does not update the payment information at the property level, which is what resulted in your reservation's cancellation after our attempts to contact you. I would also like to apologize for any lack of explanation or rudeness on the part of our front desk staff. I understand that you will not be booking again at our property due to your negative experience, but I hope that you and your family are able to continue to enjoy trips to the area.

No microwave in rooms, no laundry facilities of any type and a business center without a computer?????? Parking very difficult unless a diamond member, (good luck at new customers Hilton). Stayed in a double queen, large spacious room, with one chair, DOUBLE QUEEN???? Yes, 70 year olds love to sit on the two plastic ottomans under the counter. Room was exceptionally clean, staff were superb, especially apologizing for lack of amenities. Breakfast was pretty good. Don't stay at Hiltons often but was on trip with a diamond member and he was surprised also at lack of quality of amenities. Oh forgot - good location to freeways, and some fast food, just try to avoid all the homeless and panhandlers living adjacent at the lake.

Ishanti at check-in was very kind, professional, and very attentive. She gave me two free bottled waters for being a diamond member. Room was very clean and quiet. Breakfast was filling with plenty of fresh fruit. Free parking. Hotel is very secure with access limited to guests only.

I had to wait for 15 minutes for someone to show up at the front desk to check in. The phone was ringing off the hook and no one was around. When he finally showed up he didn't acknowledge my Diamond status. There was no one to help with bags so I had to get a bell cart myself and I forgot my 2 waters at the front desk. I went back down a few hours later and a different gentlemen told me I already got them so he wouldn't give me more water. I explained what happened and he said he knew I got my waters because the other agent told him! The room was dirty and there were a ton of spiders, spider eggs and cobwebs by the light outside our window. The air conditioning was musty and so loud we couldn't sleep with it on. Breakfast on the complimentary buffet was tasteless. Location was bad. The only positive was free parking. The price was very high for a hotel of this quality. Days Inn in Monterey looks much nicer and a better location. I don't recommend staying here.…

Hotel sparkling clean and new looking! Slept well which is normally difficult for me. I was handed 4 bags of chips and 4 waters for being a diamond member. Breakfast was solid compared to most continental buffets. 3 Diamond member parking spots a nice touch!
