We have stayed here many times but not for about 2 years. This BandB is in serious need of renovation. The room was a huge disappointment, couldn’t even get out of bed without hitting the wall. The shower pan was cracked, shower head old and water flow a trickle. The counter top worn and damaged. It’s time to remove the overhang drapery, so dated and dusty. We will be looking elsewhere in PG in the future.
This inn is in a great location. If you are looking for a view, this is it. It’s at the beginning of 17-mile drive and walkable to restaurants in the town. The grounds are meticulous with a beautiful view. Rooms are average. Breakfast is good. There is no AC and even though it is cool here, the rooms are really stuffy, especially for sleeping. There is no cleaning services even though other hotels and inns have started up with cleanings again. Also, our room was very noisy as the front lobby was next door and we could hear through the wall. You also need to go to the front desk if you need anything like extra towels, refills on supplies. . For the price, I would look for somewhere a bit less pricy as I think you are paying for the view.
Seven Gables Inn is located right on the edge of the waters of Monterey Bay. The view from their breakfast room looks out on Lover’s Point and the small cove where we watched some brave swimmers in the cold Pacific and equally brave Otters playing in the waves. The meal they provide for breakfast (price included in the fees) was delicious each of the three days we were there. Our room (the Sea View Cabin) was a luxury for us. There were 2 bedrooms each with its own bathroom a small living room and dining area, but no kitchen. The gas fireplace was a welcome touch in what was already a warm and welcoming place to be. We did have a sea view of Lover’s point and we’re a 2-3 block walking distance to Lighthouse Avenue and its many charms as well as an .8 mile walk to the Aquarium. Finally, but not least, the staff at Seven Gables were, every single one, gracious, helpful and welcoming. Well worth saving up to stay there.…
To start we were greeted with champagne on arrival. We were then given a tour of the inn ending in our room. The room the Mariposa is a second floor walk up just above the breakfast area. The view is unbelievable with both bay and cove view. The windows open so no small children. We did not hear noise from the breakfast area. The fireplace is a fake electric unit no heat noise or flame. Hard to see unless the lights are off. The bed is comfortable but if you have a C Pap the only plug is on the right side. The left plug is switched and connected to three lights. The room was clean had a k cup in the room. The inn provided k cup pods and water. The bath has soaps conditioner and shampoo. Bow dryer in room. You are in walking distance to light house cannery and downtown
We spent three nights in the Crespi room. Our room and the common areas were exceedingly clean and well-kept. The staff was always helpful and available. The dining room for breakfast is a magnificent setting with a wonderful view of the Pacific Ocean. The location of the inn is convenient to Monterrey, Pacific Grove, the 17 Mile Drive, Carmel-by-the-Sea, and Big Sur. We drove in and around all of these areas and did not see a place that we would have rather stayed. We will return to the Seven Gables Inn.
I really loved the beautiful room, view, location and comfortable bed. What was a real disappointment was the breakfast -- terrible coffee, broken toaster, undercooked large potato cubes, quiche that was just a fluffy joke, pathetic tiny pastries and the only protein was hard-boiled eggs. The final insult was a silly mask requirement while in the dining room. Glad I read the reviews and brought my own smoked salmon to put on an (untoasted) English muffin. What the heck is so hard about providing bagels, a toaster and how about some cold cuts? I will not be back.
Sought to book , but over $800 per night, for what, sleeping in a museum? Minimal parking, no daily housekeeping, no nightly turndown service, no breakfast meats (vegetarian only), no afternoon wine and cheese, no AC...no thanks! We look for value when we travel, especially at these rates.
As others have mentioned the rooms are average. There is no AC and even though it is cool here, the rooms are really stuffy, especially for sleeping. In order to get any air circulation you have to leave the windows open. Since there are no screens on the windows this allows some bugs to enter the room. Nothing like paying several hundred dollars per night to have flying insects buzzing around your head as you listen to the motorcycles go by in the middle of night. The rooms are noisy due to walls being paper thin. If you have an affectionate couple staying in close proximity to your room be prepared to listen to their exclamations of delight. The shower head probably hasn't been changed in many years since it pretty much just spits out water. The quiche and potatoes served in the morning were cold. Shouldn't be surprised since the burners on the warming trays were not lit. The women working the breakfast was very unfriendly. It was clear she didn't like what she was doing. For the several hundred dollar price per night you would do better to stay at a Holiday Inn Express. As a side note the Inn is for sale for sixteen million.…
We stayed in the Steinbeck room( and no John had not stayed there ),it was nicely dine out, bijou, good view but small. The reception guy Greg was very accommodating, offered glass of California champagne Mumm not joke…helped wit(noir giant luggage, breakfast was okay, overall I knew what the price was beforehand,we were just expecting a lot more for our money. It was no way worth the money, could not recommend on that basis.
Beautiful room & view. The bed and sheets are like sleeping on a cloud. We can't wait to go back, to sleep in their beds again! Lol Bike path directly out front & 17 mile bike trail is gorgeous. Perfect, romantic trip!
