We loved the charming room, the delicious breakfasts and afternoon hors d'oeuvres, the fact that we could bring our dog, and the location within walking distance of the town of Pacific Grove. The staff are extra friendly, including the wonderful cooks. We were very happy and relieved the staff found and mailed my special necklace back to me. We love to stay there a couple times a year.

Property's Favourite Review
My fourteen-year-old daughter and I stayed at Gosby House for two nights in early June. It was great. I realized that my daughter had never stayed at an Inn or any sort of small hotel so it was an adventure. The room was gorgeous, but the bathroom was outside of the room. Definitely a unique experience, and I appreciated the wine and cheese in the afternoons. The breakfast was good, but a bit too "adult" for my picky teen. The staff could not have been nicer. It was a great place for a quiet weekend. Pacific Grove was not the most exciting place with a teen (Monterey Bay Aquarium is fine, but not that much better than Long Beach despite reviews I read). We did really enjoy shopping in Carmel and 17-mile-drive.

Great room, location, service, and best home-cooked breakfasts with lots of delicious options. Afternoon wine and snacks are a bit as well! Would definitely stay here again. Recommended for couples, solo visitors. Perfect place to explore the area!

The Gosby House Inn is an excellent place to stay while in the Monterey area. Technically, it is not in Monterey, but it is so close to everything including the fantastic Monterey Bay Aquarium, which is just four minutes away by car. It is a beautiful old house on a street with lots of restaurants and shops. If you do not want to drive to your dinner, just take the pleasant walk to the restaurant. The rooms are comfortable with limited decor. While some B&Bs decorate for the time period, the Gosby House Inn gives you the bare minimum. My wife and I found the bathroom to have everything we needed. There was a good amount of room to move around in it. We found the staff to be helpful. Any conversation with them had to be initiated on our part. They are not going out of their way to make your stay in Pacific Grove the best it can be with information or suggestions. Every afternoon, The Gosby House Inn offers complimentary wine and cheese as well as their freshly baked cookies. We enjoyed the late-afternoon in the front room with a large bay window. Other guests were there, too, making for some delightful conversation. Breakfast is included in the rate. It is buffet style, which means you can get what you want and take it to your table. One can eat in the rooms at the front of the house. The night before, we had asked for champagne with our breakfast. It never showed up so we made sure we weren't charged for the bubbly. The Gosby House Inn does NOT provide any off-street parking! This means you have to feed the parking meters. And, those meters are seven days a week. If things are busy in this part of Pacific Grove, you will not be parking right next to the house. You may have to schlep your luggage up the street. If we are in this part of California again, we will make the Gosby House Inn our base. It is very nice, but definitely not the best bed and breakfast we have stayed at.

My husband and I stayed here for the first time. It was great. Restaurants, shore walks etc are all close. We stayed in the small 1st floor room and it was comfortable. We liked the back door being so close. It meant that you did not have to walk through the downstairs each time you went out. There is a variety of breakfast choices each morning along with wine, cheese, coffee and cookies each afternoon. The staff were helpful beginning with Ivy who checked us in. We will definitely stay there again.

Quaint or charming? That's the question I always ask when staying at an old B&B located in a wonderful location. In the case of the Gosby House in Pacific Grove I'd say neither, but if I had to choose one I'd lean toward a bit of charm. Say what you want though, you can't beat the location and for a beach town in California, the price is right and, in my opinion, you get what you pay for. Just don't have too high of an expectation. Accommodations are basic. No photos on the wall, no real turn of the century charm or cozy quaintness but our room was super comfortable and we had everything we needed. If you're not physically fit, or if your wife is recovering from a fractured ankle (like mine), the stairs to the second floor are steep and can be a challenge. But, what would we expect from a turn of the century Victorian, that is somewhere between lovingly restored and needs some attention to detail? That means most rooms are not palatial but most have more than enough room to meet your needs for a few days. The reality seems to be Gosby House doesn't aspire to be a 5, or maybe even, 4-star anything. It's a solid 3.5 stars though. Interestingly, unlike most B&Bs we stay at, staff only interacts with you when you initiate contact with them. No warm greeting, good service or even talking to you and checking in at breakfast to see if everything is ok. I'd prefer not to have to experience over the top interaction but lack of a service orientation is something we haven't ever experienced at a B&B. Even their policy of contactless departure (leave the keys in the room and go) provides no opportunity for staff to check-in on your stay. The breakfast is unremarkable but good. It's pretty much buffet style with food set out, and if you're lucky silverware available at each place setting, and guests expected to self-serve. Again, not bad, and it works, just not something we've experienced at a B&B. There seems to be a lack of service awareness when after the first wave of breakfast patrons leaves no one thinks to clear a table or set out a second set of silverware. When food runs out, again, the staff seems blissfully unaware and both mornings we had to ask for replenishment as well as silverware. The good: Comfortable rooms Great location Friendly, helpful staff when you initiate the interaction A solid, but unremarkable, breakfast The bad: The Gosby House has little charm and they don't even pretend its quaint No dedicated parking so you're left to scramble for a parking spot in the neighborhood Choose your room well or you could be in one that is very noisy or shall we say "cozy" or "intimate" (it is after all a more than 100 year old Victorian when people were smaller) All in all we enjoyed our stay. Pacific Grove is as quaint and charming as a California beach town can get and you're minutes away from Monterey, Pebble Beach and Carmel. Our best testament of how well the Gosby House served us? As we were leaving we booked our same room for next year. The Gosby House won't disappoint you if you choose your room well and don't have 5-star expectations.

We stayed for one night on our way through the area. We had previously stayed at the Channel Road 4 sisters inn in Santa Monica and the difference between the two properties was night and day. At Gosby road the staff largely seemed not to care at all about the guests and we often saw them sitting around looking at their phones rather than helping people. There is not enough space in the breakfast area for all the guests to eat at once and as breakfast starts quite late this results in people having to wait around for a table. The staff had to be prompted to clear empty tables of dishes etc. and to refill empty food/drink containers. The inn is right next to a pub which plays very loud live music past 10pm, in addition the plumbing in the property seems incredibly noisy to if neighbouring rooms use showers/toilets etc you will hear everything in your room. Not good for a night's sleep.

This cute, well appointed bed and breakfast was the perfect place to stay during our four days in Monterey. Our Lovers Point room was very spacious, with a private entrance and patio, and a gas fireplace. Bed was comfy, cozy and was welcoming after long days of exploring the Pacific coast! Breakfast was delicious and the happy hour wine and cheese was the cherry on top! Service was exceptional and would highly recommend!

A quirky period hotel in what was a quiet part of town. Bit disappointed at the beginning with staffing. Check in was at 4 but we got there early and although room was not ready they allowed us to leave bags and return later. We did after 4.20 and room still not available and advised to wait in the parlour, where to be fair they offer free sodas (nice touch) and they would come get us. We waited for 45 mins then went to remind them we were there. Room was good, usual facilities and cleaned daily although again bit of wear and tear and love needed. One of the towels provided was very threadbare and ripped in the corner. Breakfast served at 8-10 and is very much a bundle to get a table. There were people sitting with food on their laps in the parlour again. We found a table that had not been cleaned away and had to rummage other tables for cutlery etc. The breakfast was ok However after all that we very much enjoyed staying here. We staggered breakfast until bit later and was easier to get table. The staff were friendly and each afternoon they have a cheese and wine taster, sodas available through out the day. So I think we may have just been unlucky when we first got there but would probably stay again

My boyfriend and I stayed one night in the Jim Jim room during the Monterey Car Week. It's the only available room and I knew it's gonna be small. I had a wonderful experience in another Four Sister property in Mendocino before, so I didn't hesitate to book it. The Jim Jim room is cozy and clean. But the soundproof insulation was poor and shower water pressure was not very strong. These are understandable for an old building. The breakfast was very good. It's located in the heart of Pacific Grove, so it's within walking distance to restaurants and short drive to the coast. Overall it's not bad for a short stay. There are plenty of parking space on the street and they are free from 6pm to 11am. I recommend to choose a bigger room if you will stay more than 1 night.
