This is a tough place to review. The location is fantastic. it needs maintenance; COVID hit it pretty hard. I think they are switching from holding conferences to encouraging travelers and it's an adjustment. The park folks seem to be working hard to "naturalize" the grounds - to replace non-native species with native species. Meals were a disappointment - we like to have a good breakfast where we're staying and the dining room wasn't open the first few days - it seems to be only open on weekends - and no one told us. Our room was well worn and very dusty. We asked for an ocean view; you should instead ask for a room recently remodeled. We were there during storms in early January and the walk to the ocean was phenomenal. The waves crashed over the road; logs were tossed onto the road. Yet the room was not comfortable; the pillows were hard and the mattress was uncomfortable. You must get a room that is better than ours which seemed to be in an older section of the huge place. We had a view of the ocean; we had deer in our parking lot; but the room was not very good. We did not spend much time in the room. We walked from our room to the ocean and then into town along the ocean - all on public park land. The walk was magical.…
We stayed here for two nights in this ex-YWCA accommodation obviously updated since it’s early days but with its old-world charm. Kids didn’t like the lack of TV & weak internet but I thought a bonus! Reasonable pool though we didn’t use it. I was disappointed that there was neither fridge (extra $10 a day) or kettle but we used the ice machine & our cool box. We eventually got a free kettle day 2 so I could make a brew. Other gripe was the lumpy pillows which definitely need replacing though the friendly Front desk did arrange more so we doubled up. On-site there’s a friendly cafe for a quick breakfast but it’s easy to drive out of the extensive grounds and find something elsewhere. Our family room was spacious & the bathroom has 2 sinks. The whole place is dated but we didn’t mind at all because it reminded us of centre parcs! We would come here again.…
I have stayed at Asilomar since I was very young and I am in my 50s now. I always love staying there and the staff is always so kind. The large lobby in front of the fireplace with the cafe in the same area is the best! No matter what the weather, it is still my favorite!
I called with a few questions regarding booking multiple rooms for a large group and was met with a very condescending and curt woman (Jessie) on the other end. As a potential first time customer booking for a work retreat, I was shocked at how little care or courtesy she had to provide the bare minimum of customer service (and I’m just referring to being kind). I was seeking to understand my options and her condescending tone/responses were so off-putting, there was a moment I was silent to collect myself. Having the right people customer-facing is so important. This is not the kind of experience I’d want my team to encounter, we will be looking else where for accommodations.
Enjoyed three nights here with my sister. Yes, the accommodations are old and could use a bit of a facelift but our room (#119 Middle Longview) was adequate for our needs…..quite spacious, two sinks/vanities, a shower with lots of hot water and lots of water pressure, quite clean, and comfy beds. Anything lacking (very little) is easily overshadowed by the serenity of this place. Towering trees, silence, the dunes and ocean within walking distance…..this is what made my stay at Asilomar so special.
The Hotel is very beautiful with lots of open spaces. Every corner is amazing. This is a place where you feel at peace. It is a walking distance of the sea, where you will find a nice trail. The main office is gorgeous and I was very happy to take my breakfast there.
I stayed at AHCG for one week in June 2022 for a conference. It's a gorgeous and historic space that has been chronically under-maintained (probably due to state under-funding for parks and Covid). The rooms are badly in need of updating- carpet, fixtures, broken hairdryers, and doors, old pillows, and the walls were very thin. While lying in bed I could hear our neighbor using the bathroom! Oddly enough they seem to have replaced the mattresses. The rooms weren't clean. there was dirt, hair, food, dust, etc. underneath the beds. One of the fellow attendees told me there was black mold all the way up her shower wall! They moved her to a different room, but how do staff not report this and close the room until it's mitigated? There are no phones in the rooms, which means there's no way to call front desk for assistance. The entire place is cashless. They don’t accept cash at the cafe, front desk, or anywhere else, BUT they ONLY accept cash for housekeeping tip?? I couldn't buy something with CC and get cash back either. In general the staff seemed overwhelmed, however the food and staff at the dining hall were fantastic. Huge portions, lots of options, and attentive to diverse dietary needs. they also gave the option to take meals to-go which was great. The facility is moving towards more eco-friendly practices and products, which is to be commended. But they didn't provide a recycle basket in the rooms. Asilomar beach and the grounds are lovely. Just be prepared to pay California prices for Motel 6 accommodations.…
We arrived at 6.30pm with a 2 year old. Was told that they could t give us a crib as the room has a fireplace and that’s a hazard. I told them about the two year old when I booked that room. Plus… it’s august. After agreeing to waive any claim if the child burnt herself on a non lit fire they agreed to the crib. There is no food available here - the website is totally incorrect. Even the literature they give you regarding the cafe is wrong. So if you come with a baby expecting to be able to get something to eat or even (heaven forbid, at a hotel) a glass of wine forget it. As others have said rooms are DATED and BASIC, like a cross between the original dirty dancing resort and a religious retreat. The price was ok and the location is fantastic but come prepared with a full larder of food, a kettle and cutlery… oh and pillows too as they’re rock solid.…
Lovely, quiet, peaceful grounds which really creates a perfect setting for a retreat. Only a couple hundred yards from the beach, where lovely sunsets await. The rooms aren't great, a bit dirty, with some stains on the towels. I believe the rooms were likely most recently updated during the Nixon Administration, but I found that quaint; my wife not so much. The shower curtains have mildew, as does the grout, and my room wasn't ready until after 8:00 PM despite being promised at 4:00. No soap in the room, but shampoo worked as a substitute. But I grew up camping, so once again, that stuff doens't really bother me. The food is a slight upgrade from the dining commons at a university -- but I kind of liked dorm food. Plus there are good restaurants nearby. Overall, this place is slightly better than a KOA campground, slightly below a Motel 6. In short, if you prioritize the setting, it's great. But if you value food and shelter, I might suggest you seek elsewhere.…
Family reunion at least 15 rooms booked. Not one was “as pictured”! We knew it was dated and historic. We were fine with the No TV, Coffee or fridge. What we didn’t know was that it was dirty and there was no upkeep being done to the property. The decks were dangerous! The grounds were a fire hazard waiting to happen. Our room was infested with ants coming out of the electrical sockets!! They tried their best to feed everyone. It was fine nothing to write home about. We were lucky because being with family from all over the US made it worth while. One cousin thought we were in an episode of shitts creek!
