We always stay at the Monterey Peninsula Inn and its always the BEST! The studio rooms with a kitchen are great! The kids love to hang out and make breakfast in the morning and then walk to the beach which is only a couple blocks away! The hot tub is also a big hit and the firepit is a great to relax in the evening. The staff is great, always so nice and friendly to the kids when they go to get hot chocolate in the lobby. We stay here every time we come to the area and can't say enough good things about it!
I am so happy that I decided to stay at this place when visiting Pacific Grove! The rooms were very clean and looked like they were newly remodeled (nice hard wood floors, new furniture, beautiful tile shower, etc.). The check-in process was very easy and the staff were incredibly kind and helpful with any questions or requests that I had. The location was also perfect! It's centrally located so you are only a few minutes drive from just about everything in the area. Being so close to the ocean was a huge bonus as well. It was amazing being able to go on some beautiful walks along the coast line a few of my mornings. I also loved having a room with a private patio attached to it! I could enjoy a cup of coffee in the sun each morning or have a glass of wine with friends at in the evening. I'm very thankful to have stumbled upon this hidden gem and can't wait to make it my "go-to" place to stay every time I come to the Monterey Bay area!…
Monterey Peninsula Inn I’m writing this review with a heavy heart. This was our fourth stay at the Monterey Peninsula Inn but will also be our last. Historically, Monterey Peninsula Inn has been a convenient option for travelers with pets. There was a good cost to value ratio. I went back and looked at how the rate has changed over the years, our first year 2016 was $114 a night. This 2022 trip it was $179 per night. With the tax and fee bloat, it came to $243 per night! The cost to value ratio is dropping fast! Giving credit where credit is due, they did update the flooring in the rooms since we last stayed. Unfortunately the rest of the room seems to be slowly declining. First, nothing seemed clean. There was all kinds of small debris on the floor. Walking barefoot was repulsive. We even found some kibble from the previous pet guest to the left of the bed and food crumbs in the nightstand drawer on the right. The linens were stained and yellowing. The towels were the opposite of fluffy or plush and closer to a dingy pale gray rather than white. The condition of the bathroom was no better. Rust and other unknown stains on the bathtub, the grouting is missing in several places, and the ceiling in the shower was splitting. The toilet tank would fill for about 5 seconds every 20 minutes (probably a weak seal). Not a problem during the day, but at night it woke us up several times. The heater in the room was fickle and difficult to get to maintain a comfortable temp. I think it might be a thermostat issue. Additionally, after the heater would run and shut off, there was a loud rapid knocking noise, that would culminate in a bang after 2-3 minutes. Not conducive to a calm pet or restful night sleep. Lastly, the pet policy is now one full page of rules that must be followed. Some of it is standard and some felt unreasonable, primarily the agreement that the pet won’t be on any of the furniture. With the removal of the carpet, the smaller size of the rooms, and the cleanliness issue with the floor, where are you supposed to spend any time with your pet?! We found this to be completely unreasonable. I brought up the 2 main maintenance issues upon check out (the toilet and the heater). The clerk (taller guy with shaggy hair, looked like Penn from Penn and Teller) seemed unmoved by learning of these, not offering anything resembling an apology or remorse for the issues. I showed him a video that I took of the heater making the noise and received an “I’ll have maintenance take a look.” I do want to mention that Alex, who was at the front desk for the majority of our stay, was kind and helpful throughout our visit.…
Four of us rented 2 rooms. One room had a patio and one room had a kitchen. Both rooms were really nice and well appointed. There are lots of outlets for charging devices. The rooms were clean and large. I stayed in the room with the patio. It was actually a 1 bedroom and then a bed in the main area. There is a space heater and a box fan in the closet. There are 2 luggage racks which is nice. The guy at the front desk was super nice and helpful. Our friends in the room with the kitchen really liked having the fireplace. I'd stay here again. It was pretty quiet. We stayed 3 nights. One night the people next door were loud.
My dog and I stayed here for three nights. I grew up on the peninsula, but hadn't visited since 2019 so was a bit out of the loop regarding motels. I chose this one because of the reviews, location, and price, and because it's pet-friendly. It turned out to be clean, comfortable, safe, and convenient, and the front desk staff was very friendly. The only downside was that the heater's pilot light was permanently on, and so the room was too warm for me during an unusual heat wave. I was glad I always pack a small fan because the box fan in the room wasn't enough for me. I'd stay here again, but would bring another fan.
Beware our room was unsafe. At arrival we had booked a patio room. When we entered the room, I went over to open the patio sliding door to get some air in the room as it smelled musty. The sliding glass door was damaged and could barely slide. I then slid the screen door over to and the entire door fell into the patio and I went down with the door trying to save the door. I have severely sprained my ankle and limping for the entire weekend we were there. We stopped by the next day to let them know about the screen door and unsafe condition of the door. The day desk person responded with we know about the doors and have them ordered but there back ordered. There is a very large drop off from the room to the patio and very unsafe without any warning of a drop-off with no stairs leading out. We measures and its not up to code. Upon our departure 2 days later we mentioned again how unsafe it is and the day manager stated "What do you want me to do, jump up from here and do triage!" They are lucky I didn't crack my head open because triage would have been necessary. …
We loved our time on the Monterey Peninsula. Our stay at the Monterey Peninsula Inn was exceptional. We had an incredible room that was clean just the right size and very comfortable. The location in Pacific Grove is perfectly positioned for quick trips to Monterey, Carmel or for just a quick walk to the beach. The staff was extremely professional and made sure we had everything we needed. If you are looking for a reasonable price with an exceptional location and fantastic service, I would highly recommend the Monterey Peninsula Inn.
We stayed here one night passing through during our Cali 2022 Summer trip. This was out stop for Monterey. We did not have time for the hot tub pool, but our room was clean, updated and comfortable. Quiet- no traffic, located off the beaten path. For a place to sleep perfect, close to downtown Monterey, the Aquarium and Cannery Row. We did see deer so drive slow. They also have a close strip nearby to dine outside with nice ambiance.
Such friendly desk staff and a perfect place for a sleep or two. Needs to have updated TVs to smart TVs, the linens could be newer (my duvet had a hole in it), and it’s not a five star overall - but a really nice small motel with plenty of free parking. Lots of dogs staying which is great for pet owners. No carpeting which makes it easier for allergy sufferers. For the price, perhaps add a small breakfast option, lots of bakeries around, even some pastries would be a nice touch.
We would stay here again. Stayed three nights in June. It’s about three blocks from the beach, walkable easily, and close to restaurants, and the grounds and our room immaculate, quiet and charming. Check in was smooth. We really enjoyed the hot tub, which was always clean and rarely used so we had it to ourselves. I deducted one star because the toilet had a leak in it. Every time we flushed water would come out of the top of the tank, so we had to use up all our towels mopping up water. That floor was slippery when wet. It was fixed our first morning there, when we reported it, so a minor problem. The morning we left the bathroom electricity stopped working for some mysterious reason, but we were leaving and it didn’t affect our stay. Great value for the money. I would book again, definitely, on a return trip. Problems were really first world problems, and we had a great experience overall at MP Inn!…
