Stayed here early last year and had a couple of minor issues, not resolved because the clerk always referred us to the owner, saying he'll contact you. Owner doesn't seem to ever be around and never responded. A family member stayed here and had nothing but problems, including heating, bedding, cleanliness and indifferent staff. I thought I'd give them one more chance this year; emailed a question twice and never received an answer. Very poor customer service. Will not return and will advise friends and family same.

Over a 1 month trip in west USA, I stayed 2 nights in Bide a Wee inn with my family, 2 adults and 3 kids. The location is really great, however this is the worst customer service experienced I had during my American month. I booked an extra bed for my daughter, unfortunately the bed was really bad and my daughter couldn't sleep the first night, which could happen. I spoke to the attendant who says he was not the owner and couldn't help, all the extra bed were the same, I should claim when checking out. On the next day after another difficult night for my daughter, though we put the mattress directly on the floor, I spoke to another attendant, Alex. This guy was really impolite, stayed on his back office and didn't even come to the front desk to looked at me or to listen, saying as long as the bed was in the room, he couldn't help and by the way I was lucky not to be charged 90$ but just 30$ (On the top of the 540$ I paid!). The guy was only interested and repeating, just leave the key on the desk and leave, not event listening to me! I was really annoyed not to be heard. So I don’t really recommend and by the way avoid extra-bed, not a good experience 😉

I called in November 2021 to book for June 2022 and the staff guaranteed that we get room #22 while on the phone and I am online booking the room that the staff mentioned it should be. I repeated more than a couple times if she is sure that I’m getting room 102 and she confirmed. A week before we visited, I called to confirm and the staff said that it’s not 102. We were frustrated and the staff is very rude saying “you could cancel if you want”. We’ve planned this vacation and just cancel for that reason? Will never come back to this cottage anymore.

I stayed the last 3 nights of April in this charming small Inn. I must say I had a very peaceful stay. Let’s start at what really drives this place….location…location….location. It is less than a 5 minute walk to the beach. It has near by biking and walking trails. I was able to access the 17 mile drive with my bike within a short distance from the hotel. One of the nights I also walked to the Downtown area for dinner as it’s only a 1 mile walk. The Inn has a lot of charm. It is older, but well maintained. The grounds have several outdoor areas that you could sit and enjoy the natural beauty of the area. They have a fire pit which came in handy at night while gathering with other hotel guess. They have a continental breakfast in the mornings, but I never had anything as I’m not a breakfast person. I had a Queen 1 bedroom cottage room. At night I could hear the ocean which was very pleasant. The room was large with 2 night tables and a tv. It had a large Closet with some hangers as well. The bathroom had a shower/tub combo and sink with vanity that had a couple drawers. It is a good size for 1-2 people. The living room had a small desk with a lamp and a small sofa that could sit 2. There was a fireplace which is actually a heater and came in handy a couple of the cool nights. My room had a mini fridge and a full stove. The larger microwave was not working so they had a smaller one as well which was functional. It had the kitchen basics for two including utensils, toaster and plates. There was a small table with two chairs. Overall, I found the room to be very clean. I loved that it had wood floors (that was a very big plus). The furniture does has some ware , but nothing major. I would definitely stay in this Inn again. I know other people have stated that you could hear everything one room to next, but I did not hear anything or anyone except the ocean and I’m a light sleeper. My complements to the owner and staff for maintaining this charming Inn and for helping have a pleasant stay.

We stayed here two nights for our anniversary. The location is a two minute walk from the beach, but the positives ended there. The room was absolutely filthy and had a smell we couldn't shake despite leaving the windows open all day while gone. The walls were so thin we could hear the TV and conversations of next door neighbors as well as upstairs neighbors. We had to sleep with ear plugs. The bed was uncomfortable and the sponge provided in the kitchen was used, dirty, and falling apart. We will never stay here again.

Our cottage was clean, the heat worked, the plumbing was fine AND it was a quick walk to the beach. Also, we had no problem checking in/out, or with our beds. My rating is between 3 - 4 stars because there were lots of ants in the bathroom & kitchen area. That was a nuisance but we were only there for 2 nights.

First off this was a gift to my wife for our 20th anniversary and what a nightmare it has been. I booked two nights and only stayed one night and am leaving and not staying the second night. Place is out dated, Toilet leaked in room and kept us up all night, bed was as hard as a rock, heater never heat the room efficiently and staff was the worst. The staff would not make any accommodation or any small reimbursement for the inconvenience. The people here are more concerned about the money rather than your happiness with your stay. I WILL NEVER RETURN TO THIS PLACE. The mangers name is Alex and when the front desk person called him to let him know about the situation he could care less and told him I would be charged in full no matter what. I stay in Pacific Grove a-lot and there is no other hotel or cottage like this one where they don’t care like this place. Highly disappointed and shame on the manager for not caring what so ever. I refuse to let others experience this type neglect. I would suggest the Asilomar, Andril Cottages or the Best Western The Inn if you want a much better experience.

If I could give it a zero I would. I vacation in Pacific Grove once a year and we brought our puppy and because they take pets we thought we would give them a try.. So on my to Pacific Grove I stopped deposited money in the bank and drove to bide-a-wee.(I had called them prior to this to ask if they would take cash, they said yes!) So we get to bide-a-wee (4 hour drive) I go to check in and they tell me my reservation has been canceled. I asked them why the said insufficient funds, I said check them now. and of course it is there. (What if I would have paid with cash?) She said she doesn't have a room for us their full. I said you need to figure something out. So here is her solution we could only stay 3 nights instead of 4 so the first two nights we stayed in the original room we reserved, then we had to be out by 11am but couldn't get in to the other room till 4pm so at 4pm we go to the worst room I've ever stayed in. it was like a frat house dorm room. they brought in a roll away bed for my daughter and when it was open it blocked the front door and you could not get out! There is a reason this is rated a two star hotel. so for our 4th night we went about a block away to "Lighthouse Inn and Cottages" where I should have stayed in the first place. "Thanks Bide-A-Wee for ruining our family vacation!"

We stayed here before a few years ago and it was fine (4 stars, no-frills room in a good location), but this time we walked into a room that didn't match the description of what we reserved. When we said we weren’t interested and would prefer to stay elsewhere, the manager refused to cancel, discount it or even speak to us (he was off site that day and responded to our request to cancel via the desk clerk). The clerk said he would call us the next day. We left, but we never got a call back, just a charge for the full two-day stay on our credit card 3 days later. Given the numerous positive reviews, I’m sure this can’t be typical, but it sure made our first Monterey visit in a while less pleasant than it should have been. If you want more background, we had called before we made a reservation to make sure that the room we were looking at had a fireplace, which is a must for a winter stay on the Monterey Peninsula. The person at the front desk assured us that it did so we made the reservation. When we got here, it had no fireplace. The manager either didn’t believe us (he asked the name of the employee who told us, which of course I didn’t bother to write down, because I didn’t anticipate it coming to this) or just didn’t care ("it's the day of the reservation", so it can’t be cancelled regardless of what room you thought you were getting.) And to add insult, the room wasn’t available for those two nights, so they likely rented it out anyway. (Double the earnings on the same room!) So now we’re in the middle of a credit card dispute over the room. We’re likely to get the money back, but only after a whole lot of lost time and stress.

Our room was clean and had nice extras - Fireplace, kitchen (no stove), comfortable bed, good shower and a nice outdoor patio. The downside is they cater to pets. We were woke up twice by the people next door with their barking dog. I felt itchy in the bed which made me wonder how many dogs had slept in the same bed. Not sure if I would stay here again.
