Cute place, great location (right next to Butterfly Sanctuary and within walking distance to beach and town, super comfy beds, pleasant/accommodating staff. Rented the suite. It was spacious, with two separate bedrooms, joined by hall to shared bathroom. One King and one queen bed, plus a roll away cot is available. Larger of the two rooms had a gas fireplace. Giant flat screen TVs in both rooms. Coffee maker in room didn't work, but they make excellent coffee in the office for guests.
My husband, daughter, dog, and I, had a very nice 1 night stay. Our room was ready when we arrived and Chris was so very kind. Our room was spacious and clean. The beds were so comfortable and the coffee at the front desk, in the morning, hit the spot. We are so glad that we chose this inn. Thank you Butterfly Grove Inn. We hope to return soon.
Went for a midweek biking get away with a friend. We left SF at 8am on Sunday, arrived at 10am. Were welcomed in the lobby for coffee while we waited for the e-bikes to be delivered at 10:30. They were prompt and perfect for the duration. We left our car and gear in the safe parking area, and took off on two wheels for the day. Returned to our room ready. Coming back during Butterfly Season. The butterfly sanctuary is ** on the property ** Love this joint.
I want to love this place - nice people. However I have to note that there are some maintenance issues, and there were only 4 chaise lounges at a fully booked hotel. Said chaises weee taken up by young children. Safety wise, there should be a hand rail for the pool entry on the shallow end. Some rooms have better ventilation than others too. At first, I was told that I had to spend $20 for a rollaway, but asked the desk clerk to please review the extremely high rate I was paying for the weekend, it feels cheap to be paying for a rollaway at that rack rate. Fans should be available in each room as it helps immensely. It’s a solid 3 star hotel. It’s a family place.
We stayed at the Butterfly Grove Inn for four nights at the start of a road trip through Northern California, and while we found the location convenient and close to restaurants, the beach, and other activities, our room was not up to our standards for a four-star rating, hence the average three-star rating. First, there was a clear gap or other flooring issue between the two halves of the room where it felt like there was a void and a large seam. We spent the next four days nearly tripping over that spot under the carpet. The room itself was in shabby condition: dings on the walls, worn furniture, sloppy painting (especially in the bathroom, where we noticed ants in the tub and on the shower curtain). Lighting was another concern. The sink area was in the main room, and it was well lit--perhaps too well, with six bright natural daylight bulbs the lit up the whole room. So, when one of us needed to use the bathroom in the middle of the night and turned on the light to wash our hands, we risked waking the others up. The light switch near the door operated two lights--one over the small table, but the other light was over one of the beds, so again, if someone wanted to do any work while someone slept, it wasn't possible. The small kitchenette area that had a counter microwave and a mini-fridge wasn't lit at all. Breakfast wasn't provided, although it was obvious that at one point it was available--presumably a COVID casualty, although the other three lodgings on our trip served it. We loved the town and coastal area, but when we return we'll be looking for alternate accommodations.…
Loved this place. Only suggestion would be to put a real coffee maker in the room. Beds and pillows were super comfortable. And heat the pool in the Sumer:) Great location. Stay in part that is single story old motel. We felt fortunate staying here.
This was our second stay here. In Dec 2019, we stayed in the 2-room upstairs unit at “The Mansion"and enjoyed it. That was very good; this was even better! First, thank you to Manager Miraj, who is gracious, helpful, and patient with assorted questions. Thanks also to his assistant, Chris. This time, we stayed in one of the motel rooms . Parking is conveniently in front of room. Room price is reasonable—a pleasant surprise for the Monterey Peninsula . Our room had two queen-sized beds and is much larger than what it seems website. It is spacious, clean, with cathedral ceilings and loads of storage space, including 2 luggage racks, low tables at end of beds, large table for eating, big dresser with drawer space, closet with additional shelf , microwave, fridge, working gas fireplace, space heater if needed, standard toiletries (lotion, shampoo, soap). Pets are permitted at a slight additional cost, but we didn’t bring ours. There was no telltale pet odor in the room. The entire outdoors area surrounding the lodging buildings is clean. Swimming pool and hot tub were great!! Last time here followed a rare rainy period, so the lawn with picnic tables was green. With our current California drought, most green is gone. Still, the property is adjacent to the famous Monarch Butterfly Grove, and a small forest area with moss-covered trees behind the motel, where deer sometimes visit! It was quiet, despite being fully booked (on a weekend). We can hardly wait to return and already made reservations for 2 nights in October, to enjoy the monarch butterflies in the grove. One entrance to it is directly from the motel property. Note: There are no longer breakfast items out in the morning , but coffee, tea, hot cocoa are available in lobby from 8-10 a.m.…
I was very disappointed with this hotel. Its only redeeming quality is the location since it is within walking distance to the beach. Upon entering our room (#29 in the mansion) we were hit with a pungent smell. It felt very musty and damp. The room itself was very outdated with curtains and furnishings that looked as if they were from the 80's. The fridge was in poor shape as well. Honestly I was afraid to touch everything since it looked like it has never been cleaned. There were also suspicious stains on the furniture. We couldn't bear to stay another night and left a day early. In kindness, I want to mention some positives as well. - the bed was very comfy and the linens were clean, - the butterfly garden is on the property, - the staff are friendly, - the exterior is painted in a charming pink ,…
The Butterfly Inn is soooo much nicer than the pictures on TA! It's immaculate. Large rooms with cathedral ceilings. The fridge and freezer work very well. Looks like they just painted everything . The pool is cheery with lots of clean chairs. the staff is very, very friendly and helpful. Yes! Helpful (no eye rolling and sighing..... genuinely nice people) - - what a change from most places of late. Very close to everything incl, hiking, golf, restaurants, Monterey, back road to Carmel, etc..... Book here! Stay here!
