Really enjoyed our stay! Hotel is located in a quiet neighborhood about half a mile from the coastline and one mile from most area restaurants/shops (if you love to walk, it’s a beautiful 2 miles to the Monterey Bay Aquarium/Cannery Row). PG was not as crowded as Carmel or Monterey. Room (2 double beds, no fireplace) was very spacious, with a microwave and small fridge. Basic toiletries (FYI, no lotion, and BYO conditioner if, like me, you have unruly hair; those 2-in-1 shampoo/conditioner combos don’t work for me!). Plenty of free self-parking. Nice breakfast offerings (eggs/yogurt/fruit/bagels/muffins/oatmeal/juice/coffee). Breakfast room is small, so we just took everything back to our room. Balcony could have used a power wash, and the screen door was not attached (nbd, hubby fixed it). Staff was friendly and extremely helpful (shout out to Josephine for going above and beyond!). It's a little expensive, but that's expected for the area. Would definitely stay again if in the vicinity!

When we checked into our room and checked the bed, there were dead bugs and it didn't look like new sheets had been put on the bed. Josephine, front desk, came upstairs to check it out and changed us to a downstairs room without carpet. The room was basic and was noisy since it was so close to the front desk. The springs in the bed were poking through the mattress which made for restless sleep for my husband. The screen door to the back porch kept coming off of its runner. The breakfast was basic but had cereal, muffins, toast, hard boiled eggs, etc. that could be taken back to the room since the breakfast room is incredibly small. The location is good for getting around. Josephine at the front desk was delightful.

Room Tip: Ask for a second floor room so it's quieter and ask to be towards the back away from the street.

No room cleaning if you stay more than one night. The rooms are dated, the bed was not comfortable.
If we rent for one night then the room must be cleaned when we leave. We stayed for three nights and we are basically penalized for not changing hotels. We have to make up the beds, take out the trash, wash our coffee cups and walk to the front desk if we want fresh towels. Couldn't the hotel at lease bring some towels to the room and replenish the coffee supplies?

The hotel is old and I would think that they would try to make up for the deficiencies with great service.

They need to improve.

We spent one night here. As far as we could tell there was no A/C, so we opened the sliding glass door to let the breeze in. We didn't feel safe leaving it open through the night because the balconies are connected & easily accessible by jumping across. The room was clean & comfortable. The hallway was open with skylights & growing plants. Continental breakfast was good-fresh bagels & muffins, yogurt, fresh fruit. We would stay here again. They won't let you check in early.

Very good location, near the ocean. However, they could not accommodate any allergies for breakfast, so as a gluten-free person, I did not have many options. And the room for breakfast only had a couple chairs. Besides this, the pool was nice, and the rooms were neat.

OK, I spent 3 nights in this hellhole. I travel for a living and spend about 150/n a year in hotels. I can say, unequivocally, this place is a ____hole on a scale almost impossible to parody. Picture a hotel literally stuck somewhere between 1978 and 1985 that smells like Mr Clean, mothballs, Geritol and shame. It's so terrible that I wouldn't take cover in it to avoid a battle if a war broke
out in Pacific Grove.

This is not a bog standard motel. Old building, well built, well kept up. Fireplace I think i every room with a Duraflame log for the evening. Wonderfully relaxing. a couple of blocks from Monarch butterfly sanctuary. Convenient to beaches and restaurants. Nicest staff we've encountered in ages.

I would rather stay at a Motel 6!! The price is drastically inflated for what you get. The room is dated and not cleaned throughly. The linens are worn with holes in the sheets and pillowcases. Washcloths looked like they were used for a cleaning rag’s. Unfortunately the town was full or we would have moved somewhere else.

Here is the e-mail I sent to the contact on the hotel's web site. Weeks later - still no response! I left a comment card, left a message with the front desk to have a manager call me; I spoke with BW and made a formal complaint.

Dianne,

I was a guest at your hotel from July 1 - July 3rd. Upon check in and taking a look at our room I was VERY UNHAPPY. Your hotel is rated three stars and charges $157 per night - in no way shape or form was it worth it. I would like to have a complete refund.

I immediately spoke to "Joey" about my unhappiness, he claimed to have called a manager - after telling me that the manager would not be available until the week of July5th. Apparently the manager he spoke with said there was nothing to be done - there is a 2 night minimum and we could see other rooms. That was that!

I travel on a regular basis and I have never been treated with such poor customer service. Nor have I ever encountered such a situation of being unhappy with a hotel.

I am sure you would like me to be specific about my claims regarding your hotel:

*elevator code expired
*back doors to hotel being left wide open (not safe)
*mold in bathroom
*dirty sheets on the bed with holes in the sheets
*blood type stain on the curtains
*dirty carpet
*very OLD decor in the rooms
*poor customer service
*messy front desk area
*unprofessional service

I also made contact with Best Western's formal complaint group. Unfortunately they were unable to assist me with this matter.

As my claims of my unhappiness were made nearly 1 week ago, I had hoped to hear from hotel management about how to make this situation right. Of course, no response. Unbelievable!

It certainly would be appreciated to hear back from you regarding this matter.

Regards,

Alison O'Brien
