The Piccolo Hotel garners accolades for its cleanliness and spacious, modern rooms, although guests should be mindful of the occasional noisy door and fixture heights. Nestled in a prime spot, the hotel's location is a hop away from bustling downtown attractions, and the service receives high marks for personalized care and friendliness.
While the rooftop bar and pet-friendly policy are popular among guests, some have expressed concerns over unexpected 'Destination Fees' impacting the perceived value. The inviting atmosphere, complete with a cozy lobby and welcome drinks, further contributes to The Piccolo's charm.

An upscale boutique hotel. Modern and new close to shops and restaurants. Wonderful breakfast and coffee included. Staff friendly and personable. Enjoying the casting feature on large TV to watch apps on my phone. Nice size bathroom and great linens. Roof top bar great feature. Parking a bit tricky since parking is on street or nearby partner hotel. Easy access to great vineyards. .

After being warned that Paso Robles did not have a lot going on except wine tasting, and being told the Hotel Cheval was the best place to stay, we just returned from a too short trip to Paso Robles. We were pleasantly surprised by how lovely the town was - great restaurants (lunch at BL Brasserie) and a great large art gallery and various small ones, and some nice retail shops. There were quite a few restaurants we'd like to try next visit, including Les Canailles and Hatch. Walking everywhere was great, and the staff at The Piccolo was wonderfu! We were greated with a glass of a very nice Cabernet Sauvignon and friendly, knowledgable people. Check in took a moment, help was offered with bags, we parked right in front, and were offered a coin for the Moet split vending machine in the lobby, which was funny! We had Open Key mobile app, loved our room which was hip and attractive with an exposed brick wall and a very comfy bed and a window view. Our room #40 was close to the outdoor rooftop bar, which was very cool, but might be loud in summer. It was 40 that night, so not too crowded or loud. Light fare breakfast was perfect - felt European style to me with hard boiled eggs, breads and pastries, cold asparagus - loved it! Sitting on the sofa across from the fireplace with the Sunday NY Times (which you can get a block away!) was very relaxing.
As we were checking out, we got lots of recommendations on wine tasting and on places to go and things to do in the area. We stopped in at Hotel Cheval on our way out of town to check it out. The owner chatted with us briefly, was not that friendly and we did not feel encouraged to try that hotel next...
We will be back to the Piccolo, and for a longer stay next time. My favorite part of the weekend? How lovely, warm and welcoming the people of the area are. Thanks Paso Robles and the Piccolo!

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveller reviews.
There is a slight temptation to be selfish. After all if you follow my advice, I may not be able to make a reservation on a return trip. This hotel is superb with a surprising abundance of features that might be available in a much large hotel. Let me start off by saying that the photos of the rooms are one of the only mistakes that this hotel has made. While professional photography often improves reality, here this is not the case as the rooms are much nicer than the photos. The rooms are not over the top luxurious, but they are extremely nice and the important features are really well done. First, you want a good nights sleep. The bed is excellent and the linens and pillows even better. The sliding doors to the exterior are very hight quality and dampen any noise from the street. The second feature that we all prefer is an excellent bathroom facility. Again, this one has an excellent shower that will rejuvenate anyone from a tiring day or touring or wine tasting. Even the detail of the metal transition piece between the walls and floor of the shower is well thought out. The other features of the bathroom are consistently excellent as well. All of the other amenities that you would expect from an upscale hotel are available in the rooms which are clean and well thought out in their planning.
The really surprising thing about this small hotel is the abundance of places to relax in common areas. The lobby is quite inviting with a fireplace area and the ground floor has a very large patio in the rear with lovely seating areas. On the roof is another large seating area, as well as bar. The furnishings are comfortable and plentiful with lots of heaters as well as movable awnings for use during the day.
This is my first choice for Paso.

Tom, Thank you for your well thought-out review! We appreciate the time and the attentiveness in your description of our hotel. When constructing the Piccolo, many of the things you mentioned were very important to us as well. From the mattress, to the design of the room, to the furniture in the lobby, our guests' comfort and enjoyment were at the forefront of our minds! We are honored to be your first choice in Paso and look forward to your return visit. Thank you again!

This is an impressive property in the heart of Paso Robles and it provides a quality hotel option the town needed.
The interior is a bit hit and miss. Some of the nicer design elements are fighting with some major missteps: most memorably the terrible text-forward throw pillows and upholstery that adorn the lobby and rooms, prolifically. But there are other nice touches and the spaces felt bright, open and modern.
Check in and out was friendly without being particularly warm or informative. We did not know, for example, that the property shares pool and spa facilities with the Inn next door.
We liked the bed, pillows, shower, towels…everything there felt premium and comfortable. Minor drawbacks: The bathroom amenities didn’t quite match the quality of the linen. And the chrome cast feature on the TV didn’t appear to work.
I appreciated a steamer in the room and a large fridge with ample in-room coffee supplies. The breakfast box was cute, if not too high calorie to be responsible before a day of wine.
We did experience quite a lot of noise from the adjacent room, cleaning service area, and a bit from overhead. It’s always disappointing when new builds don’t invest in appropriate insulation to protect the primary product: sleep.
The rooftop bar is nice. Wonderful views at dusk and really very good cocktails. It felt refined up there. Closing at 8.30 felt a little less refined.
Will we return? Maybe. At around $500 a night it felt like a bit of a stretch, but it’s also a fantastic base to explore one of the best wine regions in California.

I'll put this first, we did have the Somm Suite, which is absolutely amazing if you want to spoil yourself. You could sleep without much issue if two people are comfortable on a pullout couch. The extra space, dining area, and fridge really set up nicely for an extended stay, or if you want to refrigerate extra goodies.
The room is a smart set-up. You have two full bathrooms, an area to drop your stuff to walk in (plus aforementioned wine fridge), then it opens to the living/dining area, that's all one room. There is a small Juliet balcony overlooking the first floor courtyard and the park beyond. You still see a lot of roofline so the view isn't perfectly magical but very solid.
The bedroom is perfect--two different types of pillows for each sleeper and good curtains (the windows face east but we were not bothered by the sunrise at all).

I have to give big kudos to this hotel. They are very Covid safe, great rooms w/everything you’d ever want, and staff who will bend over backwards for you. I really couldn’t find anything that wasn’t top notch and it’s only 1 year old so it feels fresh and clean and the door opens to the outside so you can easily access fresh air.

For value of money could do better than hanging a breakfast box on your door knob in the am with some stale breakfast rolls. Bar closes at 11 and so when you come to celebrate New Years you have no where to go except your room. No handicap parking. Was told we could use the handicapp parking at the sister property. For someone who needs to be right out in front due to mobility issues parking at another property and having to walk back does not make sense. Our dinner resevation was booked on a totally different day so when we arrived at the resuarant they were closed. We had to go and find another restuarant to have dinner.

Hello, Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your honest opinion. We appreciate you letting us know how we can improve to make your next stay better than the last. At this time we feel that the breakfast box is the safest way to provide our guest with a breakfast option giving the current covid restrictions, we apologies if you received stale product. If we had known at the time we would have gladly replaced the product or provided you with a different breakfast option. We do shut Tetto down at 11PM as there is guests that occupy the rooms beneath the bar and we do not want to take the chance to disturb their slumber. We do not have handicap parking in front of the hotel but there is some located across the street. We will look into talking to the city to see if there is something that can be done to change this. We are not sure what happened with the reservation but sorry for the misscumunation on our part. We are saddened we missed the mark on your visit, we hope that the next time you visit Paso Robles you give us a second chance. Again, I'm sorry your stay wasn't what you had hoped; but thank you for your feedback. ^Martin Beckett - Director Of Hospitality

The Piccolo is a perfect hotel for couples visiting Pas Robles. Parking is easy either on the street in front of the hotel or on their sister adjacent sister property. The hotel is beautifully decorated, the staff is attentive, and the location is excellent as it is near the main square where there are plenty of places to eat and shop.

It can be hard to pick a hotel in Paso due to the large number of similar-looking small offerings. The Piccolo is a very fresh and welcome find as it blends an ideal location with an ultra clean and modern-classic aesthetic which made it an incredible home base for our weekend stay. Staff is very kind and well informed, the rooftop bar is very pretty and fun. Can’t say enough about this new home away from home.

This hotel is gorgeous, but lacking everything necessary to make it an experience. The rooftop bar so boasted about in other reviews was staffed with a single bartender on a Sunday afternoon/evening. No bar back or waitress. Several parties left because they could not get service at their seating area. We sat at the bar and the bartender was friendly, but incredibly overworked. The bar was out of alcohol to make two of the signature drinks on the menu and the bar area was overrun with flies. The bathroom was beautifully appointed with nice touches not normally available at other hotels, like the turbi-twist towel for ladies with long hair, but there wasn't enough water pressure in the shower to wash your hair! The clothes steamer had old, dirty water in it when I went to use it. A cute little breakfast snack box affixed to the outside of the door with a ribbon in the morning was a nice touch, but overall, the stay was just average, if that, and definitely not worth the $455 price tag for a single night.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your honest opinion. We appreciate you letting us know how we can improve to make your next stay better than the last. Like many of the bars and restaurants in the area, we are challenged with ongoing side effects from the pandemic like supply chain issues and extreme staffing shortages.
