This place is an overall GEM in Paso Robles. My family and I were in the area for my brother's wedding. Most of the party stayed at the Paso Robles Inn or at an Airbnb. My mom and I decided we wanted to stay here and we were so glad that we did. The grounds are well maintained, the staff are extremely friendly, and the guest rooms are extremely clean. I stayed in the Highflyer and after a long night of partying, it was so lovely to get back into my room and soak in the tub. The property made excellent breakfasts in the morning and their Old Fashion at the bar were to die for in the evening. Here is where my big piece of feedback comes in. The beds themselves were extremely comfortable (i.e. the mattresses). However, given that we were spending over $600 per night, the bedding completely missed the mark. I expected high end linens that were pressed like you would normally get at a hotel where you're spending that kind of money. Furthermore, the pillows were a big disappointment. I remember seeing one of the pillow tags saying they're from Ikea, which is not okay for an establishment like this. Furthermore, the pillows were mostly polyester and extremely uncomfortable to sleep on. It took me three nights to get acceptable down pillows placed on my bed. Another recommendation I would give the property is to offer turndown service nightly. Again, when you're spending over $600 a night, this is certainly a service that should be offered. Overall this property is great and I would stay here in a heartbeat if I'm in the area again. There are simply a few small appearing but major impact details that if actioned, could change the property from great to outstanding. Overall, I would have valued my room night to $350 to $400 maximum given my stay.

Dear littleb0326, Thank you so much for your detailed review, and for your feedback regarding the bed linens and pillows, it was very helpful. After the pandemic, we had a huge problem sourcing pillows and had to resort to IKEA. However, after our normal supplier became available again we removed all the IKEA pillows - or thought we had . It was an oversight that Highflyer still had those pillows and the housekeepers removed them as soon as I passed this information on to them. We do hope you will think of us again when you are next in Paso. Sincerely, Jayne Christman, General Manager

When we first decided to finally take a trip to the Paso Robles wine country, I went to the internet to check my trusted sites and dog friendly listings to create my list of possibilities. I found lots of recommendations and reviews. I then began to call my top selections. I call before I book because we have Stella, a frenchie, who loves to take road trips with us. After a few frustrating errors in "dog friendly" places, I learned to call and confirm. When I called Hotel Cheval, I explained the purpose of my call. The young lady I spoke with assured me they were dog friendly. When I told her my husband takes Stella out to a grassy area immediately upon awakening, she assured me that she had the perfect room for us. That made me feel that this was the right place for our stay. Several weeks before our arrival, I received an email from one of the staff, Dorine. She encouraged me to call her about recommendations for restaurants and wineries. I am so glad I called her. I had started my list of wineries and restaurant reservations, but she stepped up our experience. She made calls for us to places she thought we would love based on our conversation. Yes, she called me and personally helped me! When we arrived, they had or ev space ready for our car and greeted us as their first priority. Our room was wonderful. It had a patio for us to sit and enjoy. The location was perfect for Stella and my husband to take care of her business I am very particular about having a clean room and was so pleased that it was both clean and comfortable. The breakfast was very nice and the barista made great cappuccinos for us. After a long day of wine tasting and driving through beautiful canyons and wineries, it was so nice to come home to a patio with a huge lit fireplace and Jim making s'mores for us. We had such a wonderful experience that we have already made reservations to return next March. We appreciate the kindness and gracious hospitality that the Hotel Cheval staff provided for both the two legged and four pawed guests.

We stayed there for a weekend in late May 2023. The hotel staff are professional, helpful and very friendly. Our room was well appointed and very quiet in spite of it being located just a half block from the lively main square. The bar is very nice with outdoor seating and great music, with the inner courtyard reserved for hotel guests. I have a Tesla and I appreciated the complimentary vehicle chargers. Mike, the s’mores butler was great. I highly recommend this hotel.

This hotel is not only comfortably luxurious, it is charming and will leave you feeling at peace and never wanting to leave. The included breakfasts in the Pony Club are fresh with several choices that change daily, excellent coffee. The evenings end around the fireplaces in the courtyard where the "s'mores butler" builds you a variety of s'mores - much more elevated than you average campfire s'more! But even with all of this, the most important part of the hotel is the staff. They are gracious and accommodating in every way. They always greeted us warmly, stored items for us in their refrigerator, even drove us and our bulky luggage to the train station. One of the best experiences we have ever had in a small luxury hotel.

We arrived an hour or so early but very warm welcome and room was ready. Parking was private across the street. Steps up to room on second floor and offered help with luggage but we were happy to manage ourselves. very impressive courtyard with a huge fireplace which the rooms surround and gave the whole place a pleasant warm personal club like atmosphere. The rooms are all identified by horse associated names and ours was excellent with a very comfortable large bed and a great bathroom area. We had the easily the best sleep of our road trip here. We knew about the nightly smores on offer in front of the fire in the courtyard and were reminded of this by the staff as something not to miss. I had booked a local restaurant at an earlier time to give us more than enough time to get back and we were really glad we did as the smores experience was unique and excellent. It seemed to go beyond the delicious"a la carte" smores on offer toasted on the fire and was a very pleasant hour or so with a couple of drinks and friendly chat with other guests. A real occasion not to be missed. Breakfast was in the Pony Club which is also the pleasant bar area, inside and outside spaces. You choose what you want and the staff bring it to you. This is a special place which we will stay in our memories and we will certainly be back there if our travels take us within reach in the future.

Hotel Chavel is a charming and relaxing Oasis away from the hustle bustle of daily life. We were welcomed with warm and open arms by their incredibly friendly and attentive team who doted on us throughout our entire stay. Our room was beautifully appointed, spacious and comfortable. The courtyard is a lovely place to sit and have lunch, read a book, enjoy one of several managed fireplaces and, of course, enjoy the nighttime service of the S'mores Buttler! The included breakfast was delicious and it's so nice to have what you need offered on a complimentary basis throughout the day (water, tea, coffee, etc). The Pony Bar has a great selection of local wines and worldly spirits, with wine tastings, music and other happenings on most days. On top of all that it's a block off of the town square meaning you can walk to dozens of restaurants, cafes, bars and shops in minutes. My wife and I will definitely be back!

Think twice before you spend the money to stay here. We paid 600 bucks for our luxury room that was not luxury at all and reeked of smoke from the fireplace. Also, there was a large gap in the door way so who knows what can get in the room. We will not be returning to this place would rather spend my money somewhere else.

Dear baileybH1690ZZ, Thank you for your review, I am so sorry that there was a gap under the door to your room. As soon as you informed us of this, we immediately rectified the situation. I know that you were disappointed that you did not have a bathtub in your reserved room, unfortunately your reservation was made online, had we known in advance, we would certainly have done our best to accommodate you. We did offer to find alternative accommodation on check-in, but I believe you chose to remain at Hotel Cheval. We take pride in our service, and I hope that you enjoyed the champagne and truffles that we placed in your room. Once again, please accept my sincere apologies, Sincerely, Jayne Christman, General Manager

Took me a couple of years to write this, but we went to Paso as an anniversary getaway. From the moment we arrived, we knew this was a place to which we would return. Beautiful architecture, spotless rooms, well decorated, and gorgeous outdoor fireplaces that MAKE you go out and enjoy them, along with the s'mores that they make while you sit under a blanket. It is all incredibly memorable. GREAT little bar/restaurant on property as well. The topper, we had our black lab, Ramona, with us. Every day, there would be a bottle of wine or some sort of amenity for Ramona. She even received a thank you card in the mail inviting her back to stay in the future. Hilarious as it was imaginitive.

We stayed for 4 nights in June and loved everything about Hotel Cheval. The rooms were roomy, clean and comfortable. The breakfast was great. The staff were attentive and super helpful. The restaurant had a great atmosphere outside, with good food and drink. The attention to detail really set it apart from other places we’ve stayed. And last but definitely not least, the s’mores were amazing!

This hotel is a must stay for anyone wanting to visit and stay in downtown Paso Robles. The location is perfect and you can walk anywhere in downtown. The room was spacious and private. They provided everything you need. The wood burning fireplaces and quiet courtyard makes it feel like you are in a private resort. Renee and Jordan were very welcoming. Renee assisted us with dinner reservations and went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. Mike was so helpful getting us setup in our room and tending to the fires. He makes the BEST smore's and they even had gluten free graham crackers. The service is first class and the property is a perfect place for a weekend getaway.
