I stayed at the Alura Inn from October 14 - 18. During that time I want to comment on my housekeeper. In addition her normal chores what I liked is that my bed with sheets tightly tucked and pillows returned making my return to the room pleasant. I never met her but I wanted to thank her. Also, each time I went to the office desk each person was pleasant and I want to shout-out to Rita who helped me understand how my billing was covered and other questions I had. All in all it was a pleasant stay 6 miles from the airport and within 6 miles from many companies.
This a modernized, somewhat "chic" motel. Room was clean and functional; included small kitchen area, which was nice. The front desk receptionist (Rika) was very competent and helpful (five stars for Rika!). Atmosphere was fine - not loud, dirty, or dangerous. Many utility trucks in the parking lot at night, so I gather this is a favorite for skilled tradesmen. This is an acceptable relatively low-cost option for this area.
We were attending a conference, and we were offered the Alura Inn by the booking company we were using. Although looking a little shaby on the outside, our room was very good and quiet at night - very comfortable bed, excellent hot shower, and microwave and fridge in the room, made for an enjoyable stay. The car parking was easy, and front desk staff were welcoming.
We couldn't get a room downtown so had to stay somewhere the night before our convention started--and didn't want to break the bank to do it.
Alura Inn is definitely economy, but worried about smokey non-smoking rooms and ram-shackle motel rooms were you heard every noise, my friend tried to find a decent place. And the Alura Inn turned out to be a place we wouldn't have minded staying in for longer!
You have to leave a deposit. They ran my credit card, but I wasn't charged.
Parking was easy-- motel-style right by rooms, which were downstairs or upstairs.
They gave us a downstairs unit on the end--not too noisy from people walking above or around it. It was one of the larger rooms they had and actually was a suite--with large main room with sofa and tv and fridge and table and chairs--very basic, but comfortable enough. Two separate small bedrooms. Looked newly renovated. Bedding looked neat and clean and new. A/C adjustable at two places. Limited outlets, but not bad.
The restaurant attached-- Los Garcias Mexican Restaurant, Looked clean and newly re-done. Very bright and open and family-friendly, with a bar! The food was excellent!
Location on busy main road. Not a lot in walking distance, but easy to drive to--although only way to enter was to turn right into the driveway--no left turn entry.
Again, this was a nice surprise and I could definitely have eaten there again!
I was pleasantly surprised all around. I'd recommend!
The drive up to the hotel is in a sketchy neighborhood- be warned. The hotel itself is typical on the outside. The front desk staff were great and it was a quick check in. Yes, there's a $50 deposit. They say they're going to "release the funds" back into my account in 2 or 3 days. I didn't understand the need for the deposit until later on.
The room is very spacious and a pleasant surprise. The bed was comfortable. It got a bit hot but there's an air conditioner if you need it. There's a fridge, microwave and small wet bar. I was surprised there wasn't a hairdryer so I went to the front desk to ask for one and they sign them out, by number, to your room. By now I'm getting the impression that if they have to sign out hairdryers it may be the sort of place that gets things taken a lot. Hence the need for the deposit too. Anyway, I had a hairdryer so I was happy.
This is the level of hotel that doesn't have security. The lack of security became apparent between 11pm and 1am. I asked for a quiet room, I know it's a crap shoot, but I don't think any room was quiet last night! The party people were loud, yahooing and carrying on til all hours. They were very, very loud and I had ear plugs in. It was a Tuesday evening; I didn't think there would be a lot of partiers. I was wrong. I had a very important interview this morning so didn't want to spend a good portion of my night talking to front desk over and over again to get this resolved, so I decided to put up with it. I eventually got to sleep around 1am.
All in all, an ok place to crash, not really rest- because of the noisy people. The room was great and the staff were great too. This is a cheaper hotel with people staying that apparently take things and lie about whether they are smokers or not. (When I was checking in a call came in from a previous guest who wanted to know why they were charged $150 extra- the answer was because they smoked in the room. The caller did not argue the point, but it seemed to happen often rather than unusually. I didn't smell smoke but I made sure to tell the staff we didn't smoke so I don't get charged an extra $150)!
I wouldn't stay here again based on my experience last night and I would spend another $30 or $40 for security and a higher-grade hotel.
