We needed a room for 8 nights. This was perfect! Good bed, easy walking distance to several places to eat and the room was a simple accommodation for two. Room #8 was fairly small and on the second floor so 3 big bonuses: 1. the air conditioner was smaller than most hotels so was QUIET 2. at night we slept safely with one window open for pleasant fresh air and 3. we were away from the street noise. Jerry, the manager, was delightful, helpful and quick to reply. Don’t be fooled by the little dingy office and fading sign; this motel is perfect for the practical traveller who is usually out enjoying this charming town. If you do feel the need to entertain people, get one of the Sunbeam’s larger rooms or go to a nearby restaurant. We totally recommend this place!!!
Haven't actually stayed here yet and will report back after I do but I just wanted to leave an initial review! I booked this place and called the front desk for a few questions regarding checking in/out. I spoke with Jerry and he was so relaxed and friendly (in the genuine way..not the forced way). So far this seems like it's going to be a charming stay with a very accommodating staff. I am looking forward to visiting my college town and staying here :)
Stayed for 4 nights in October 2020. Was perfect for our cycling trip- There was plenty of room for our bikes and bags, staff was helpful and friendly, room was clean, bed was comfy, and housekeeping was thorough. Price was good and we were able to walk downtown for coffee and dinner each day. Will stay again!
I'm always a little nervous when I see these little one off places. Because when they go wrong, they go very wrong. This may be the first time it all went RIGHT. First off the guy running the place was great. Super friendly, helpful and made a great recommendation on where to eat. Also when I got locked out of my room at night, I texted him and he came to let me in. Secondly it's a really nice room for, let's be clear, WAY less than similarly sized rooms in the area. Clean. Modern. Comfy. Frankly I wish I'd extended my stay. And it's close to all the stuff you want to see. When I come back, I'll be staying there and saving a few bucks to boot.
My girlfriend and I stayed here for 2 nights and I must say that for the price, this is a great deal. The rooms were clean and well organized, and the manager (Jerry) was super accommodating helping us feel like home. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
We found an affordable and comfortable stay during our visit in San Louis Obispo. Accomodating service, nice clean room, microwave and fridge, which was nice. With the affordale price came just a little noise activity. Nothing too much, but all that should be expected with saving money so that you can spend the savings in the sweet adventures that await the Central California Coast. Thank you from B'ham Wa.
I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived here. This place is newly renovated, very comfortable mattress with what appeared to be new bed sheets. This is now my "go-to" motel in SLO. It's also walking distance to my favorite SLO restaurant, Splash Cafe.
I spent a couple nights at the Sunbeam Motel while in SLO to meet up with some friends. I opted for this cost effective motel and was pleasantly surprised by the experience. Check in and check out were smooth affairs, and the young gentleman working both times had a friendly, pleasant demeanor. The property had a vintage appearance but was well maintained other than a broken Coke vending machine. On-site parking was free and easy. Downtown was just 15 minutes away by foot, so I kept my car parked most of the weekend. I stayed in room 10, which was upstairs in the middle of the small property and had a pleasant view. The room had been renovated sometime in the past few years, and other than some muck in the ventilation filter, was clean throughout. Furnishings were adequate, and although the room was small, it didn't feel uncomfortable. The fridge was handy, but I didn't use the microwave. The only disappointment was the air conditioning, which struggled to keep the room cool in the afternoon sun. I opened a window once the sun went down and my room quickly became comfortable. SLO hotels/motels tend to be poor value or low quality, which is why I prefer an Airbnb or VRBO, but the Sunbeam Motel bucks the trend. I would stay here again if I consider a hotel/motel for my next visit.…
Very nice room in older motel, small but clean and comfortable on 2nd floor. Included refrigerator & microwave, simulated hardwood floors. Check-in fast and efficient. Typical traffic noise, but fairly quiet after midnight. Good value for the money. For the price, I'd stay there anytime. Nearby motels cost twice as much.
My room was ready for refurbishment with old curtains with holes & also drafty depending on if the wind was blowing under the door. The staff however were friendly & the room was clean. Probably better value outside Spring Break time & the weekend before Easter.
