At first blush, it's a hip, spacious comfortable hotel. But the devil is in the details. Our first room over-looked an alley. OK, we had a view of industrial a/c units on a commercial building roof but that's not what bothered us. The big bother was that aTavern has a patio on that alley. Our first night, a Friday, was unbearable because of high decibel, drunken laughter, shouting and music coming from the patio. It seemed like there were dual pane windows between us and the noise but, for practical, sleeping purposes, they may as well have been nothing but screens. The noise didn't stop until the 2:00 AM closing time. Also, our bed had only big, decorative, headache and neck ache-inducing pillows--not a regular bed pillow to be found. To the hotel's credit, when I mentioned the problems at the desk the next morning, the desk staff immediately moved us across the hall to a room that proved to be quiet and had actual bed pillows. This room was identical to the first one but more expensive (I guess at the Cerro you get noise at a discount) but staff waived the extra cost. What the new room didn't have was a functioning safe. 2 hours of workers in our room later, the hotel concluded our safe was a lost cause and we had to take our valuables to the lobby safe multiple times and deal with staff who weren't there when we dropped things off, hadn't been briefed and were unable to return our valuables to us the next morning. The floor of the restaurant was sticky, as if orange juice had been spilled all over it, but our observation of that was met with a shrug. The rooftop pool is nice but the bartender added an unauthorized tip (after we had already tipped him in cash) that we wouldn't have noticed if we hadn't scrutinized our bill upon checkout. We like SLO, we like the look of the hotel and we like its location, but we don't intend to return.

We stayed only one night at Hotel Cerro and it was very centrally located in downtown SLO. Walking distance to plenty of restaurants and bars. It's literally right behind the famous gum wall. The staff was very nice and the hotel itself is new and very beautiful. They have bikes you can rent and even give you a couple reusable water bottles for you to keep and every floor has water stations. I loved that! We packed our swimsuits since the weather was warm that day but when we got to the roof where the pool is located it was filled with kids splashing around so that was a no on the pool for us. The pool bar had some good drinks and a small bites menu. We were in a room that faced an alley (Room 215). We were told it gets noisy. It happened to be Cal Poly's graduation weekend and the city was very busy. I have to say we barely heard a thing. Yes, you could hear the music playing from the bars but it wasn't anything that would keep you awake. The design of the room is interesting. The bathroom seems to be the main focus. Huge restroom and shower. That aside we loved all the modern elements. It's very Central Coast chic. Loved it!!

We’re so glad we learned about this great small hotel, right in the center of downtown SLO. It’s super clean and modern, with a very friendly staff at every turn. The rooms were large, and one room was perfect for our family of four, including two teenagers. The rooftop pool was a treat. We will definitely come back.

The hotel is beautiful and the staff is wonderful. However, after that it's all downhill. Should have known that things were amiss, when I checked in they asked if I wanted an inside room as it could get noisy on the outside rooms. The room was well appointed but strangely laid out. The bathroom took 2/3 of the room while the bed, armchair, and deck were on top of each other. We were sound asleep around 10 when the neighbor upstairs came home and we could hear everything. It sounded as if a herd of cattle was above us. After that, they turned on their music and it sounded as if it was in our room. Luckily we had noise cancelling headphones or we couldn't have slept all night.

Stayed here with my son while visiting Cal Poly. It was delightful. Amazing location and many thoughtful extras: pour over coffee in room, reusable water bottles to take with you, coffee creamer in refrigerator and more. Edible Garden is delightful as is the bar. Highly recommend.

Everyone should be aware that any of the rooms on the outside (labeled city view”) are VERY loud. I wouldn’t book one of these rooms again. However, our biggest issue was the pool….open to the public on Friday and Saturday beginning at 4 pm. Young people streaming in to have a pool party, drinking and taking up the lounges. This is not fair for those of us who paid $400 and up to enjoy a relaxing day at the pool. It’s a small area and should only be available for hotel guests.

Dear Janet, Thank you for sharing this important feedback with us. This is obviously not the experience we aim to provide our valued guests and we sincerely apologize that the Rooftop Pool was not what you were hoping for. We've cut down the number of hours the bar is open to the public, to ensure a better guest experience. Again, we sincerely apologize and hope you'll give us a second chance to impress you in the future.

The Garden Suite was very clean, spacious, comfortable and quiet. The bed and sofa were very comfortable. The set up of the room - you enter into the bathroom! - is a little strange, but once you get accustomed, it's just fine. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Great location.

My wife and I are staying here for a long weekend right now. We are in a King Loft room and paying $500+ per night. After the first day, we realize that this didn’t include housekeeping. We requested it and were told they can only provide replenishment of towels and empty the trash. Today my wife ended up making the bed and emptying the garbage. Before reserving this expensive “boutique” hotel, I suggest you inquire about housekeeping.

While this is definitely a five star hotel, and I definitely recommend it, there are things that I wish were different. Such as the art on the hallway walls. I was actually embarrassed to walk down the halls with my family because of the art. Now for the good stuff: the beds are extremely comfortable. The rooms are gorgeous! The staff are very friendly and helpful. The place is immaculate. Oh, another huge problem is the noise! We were awake till wee hours or the morning bc of the noise next door but also in our own hotel. I think they will do better, and it is still way better than many of the SLO hotels!

This was a special birthday trip for us and were we disappointed. Two nights we were kept awake by screaming and profanity that lasted hours - maybe from alley.or? Three nights - including one for $700 - left us speechless at the lack of service. One day we asked for room service - came back at 4 o'clock, to find towels on floor and coffee cups half full etc. When we confronted front desk, two young women just stared at us and said,"We had a big turnover today". And offered nothing! I had to stand and actually demand room servicing. A bellboy finally volunteered to go to housekeeping and ask! Were told brunch was served on Sat and Sunday - of course that was not the case. The TV experience couldn't compete with a Motel 6.... Basic channels only - the App for Comcast streaming from my mobile phone would not function after multiple attempts.... "it's a Dish Issue" as one of the previous reviewers wrote. Save your money and try elsewhere. Hire a new general manager and train your staff!! What a waste of a beautiful looking hotel.
