We travel to SLO fairly regularly, and we have stayed in a lot of different properties at different price points, but never here. And never again. Despite being on a Monday night, our $150 stay with taxes and fees was a huge disappointment, highlighted by obvious cost-cutting measures and poor maintenance by the facility. About all the manager was willing to do is promise that the items will be fixed for our next stay, but we won't ever know because we won't be going back. Here are but a few of the issues: the Jacuzzi was broken, the TV remote only let you see every other channel (skipping over the +1 and instead giving you the +2 channel), the air conditioner was loud enough to wake the dead, the ice machine was broken, and the pillows were hard and small and would be better as thrown cushions on a couch rather than being pillows. Oh, and the premium price comes without breakfast... not even pastries or coffee in the lobby. The manager said that the Dennys next door offered a discounts to customers, but to me that is cold comfort when you pay so much for a room, and most of the other motels in town offer at least pastries. The place itself seemed like it catered to contract workers that come in to town to work on telephone and cable systems and the like. There were a ton of trucks in the parking lot, and although there is nothing wrong with that, they seem to want to smoke and drink after their shifts so families might want to consider that for their stay. The one thing I can say about the place is that it was clean... spotless in fact, which is a huge relief during Covid. But would we stay there again? No way. Not sure how they justified the prices being so high, but I feel pretty ripped off considering all the things that were not working or cut back.…
Our family, two adults and four teens, stayed in the 3Q room one night. I was not expecting much, but was pleasantly surprised. The pool and hot tub were very nice. The man who checked us in was very nice. The room had everything we needed and was large. Good location, close to a lot. There was a smell outside our room that was pretty bad, like urine, but once we closed the door we couldn't smell it. We didn't have any issues with noise. Liked having the fridge. I liked the set-up of the bathroom - toilet and shower enclosed with the sink and closet separate. This allowed some of us to brush our teeth while someone else showered or used the bathroom.
I only give it two stars because they refunded my money and the front desk staff was nice and apologetic. The bed sheets were stained with multiple colored substances. The room was extremely loud! Someone was taking a shower in a room next to us and it sounded like a train passing by. There were long hair strands on the pillows and mattress sheets. The final straw was a lady outside of our room yelling “i can’t find my lighter. Do you have one? I found some good s**t, let me know if you want some”. Very shady. There was a baby crying somewhere in the hotel and we could hear it as if it was next door. Paper thin walls! This is not something I was expecting for $220 a night. Very surprised on how other reviews were good. Stay away.
We have stayed at a variety of places in SLO from the funny /touristy Madonna Inn to a variety of nice and budget priced motels. We have flown in and out of SLO's little gem of an airport several times to pick up our stored RV and begin our fortunate travels. We need a motel when arriving to sort things out over a day or so and have stayed the last 2 times at Vagabond = basic but very convenient, affordble, clean, with pool and hot tub and 20% discount on breakfast at Denny's next door. We could afford more, but why pay more? Check them out! M&C - married 52 years, retired RNs from Quincy,MA
We were unable to get a reservation at the Madonna Inn so had to stay here. I think convents provide plusher accomodations. The bed was tiny, the noise level was over the top, and the furnishings were strictly low level Home Depot. Fake wood flooring, no drapes, poorly fitted blinds. The ac was ineffective and very loud. This place defines cheap but it's not. It was over $230 for 1 lousy night. Never again.
Needed an extended stay here is SLO and the Vagabond was extremely accomodating. They provided excellent service and went above and beyond anytime a question arose. They have continued to improve their property as well as their service. Recommend highly and will visit again when in the area.
The Vagabond has gone through some changes. The rooms are clean and updated and most of the outlets do work. The beds are okay -- not great. However, they haven't updated the air conditioning. Ours was the old box variety, stuck in the sink area behind a wall. Not very effective. It's bare bones and we'd have been fine with that -- except it costs $$$. Avoid.
I live in San Jose and commute each week and stay here Sunday to Friday. The accommodations here have been more than expected from management to the staff. The rate has been fair and helpful on my wallet. They understand the hardships of traveling and have made this weekly journey as painless as possible. I would recommend this location for business or family. It's just off 101 and near several stores and restaurants. Plus you get discounts of 20% off for staying here at IHOP and dennys.
Be careful. Do not stay at this place and do not book with BOOKING as they don't even let you give a review. The hotel rooms are sort of clean but definitely not worth anything other than 80 dollars (not the almost 200 we payed for it)plus walls are so thin as if made out of cardboard and you can hear the neighbors. Pretty much you cannot sleep until 12 pm and wake up at 5:30 or so
I stayed here for 3 nights and I was pleasantly surprised with how nice my room was... Very updated and clean, with all of the most important amenities . Also, The parking lot was spaced out well with larger parking spaces and the was an ice machine and soda machine just down the walkway. The pool area was open and very clean as well. The staff was quite pleasant and helpful. I would certainly stay there again. I would rate this particular Vagabond Inn as being fairly nicer than most other Vagabond inn's I have stayed at in the past. My 3 night stay was quite reasonable price as well.
