From the time we walked in and were warmly welcomed to our lovely room.....the hotel is charming and delightful. The staff is excellent. The room is exactly as shown on the website. Very comfortable with an extraordinary view! Spendy but worth every penny. I can't recommend it highly enough. After the hustle and bustle of the city, it is a...

HOTEL’S FAVOURITE REVIEW
Reviewed 7 July 2016

The design of this hotel is amazing (not surprising since Michael Smith designed the interiors). It is light, airy and Californian. Interestingly, it is in a very tight location, which makes you have to walk in strange ways to get to your room. I have walked down the wrong hallway many times here. The rooms are small, but wonderfully appointed....

We arrived at this wonderful hotel after the long flight from London to a wonderful welcome and to be told they had upgraded us from a room with Ocean View to a Suite with Ocean View. Sadly we were only staying there a night as it was wonderful to look out at all the fun going by on the beach...

The room was exceptionally comfortable, with big four poster bed, a deep tub and a shower. Furthermore, there were a number of charming touches, including a quilt on the bed, books and usual magazines. The entry of the hotel is lovely, with a roaring fire going on cool days. The hotel is literally right on the beach.

We stayed in room 302 (ocean front corner suite on the top floor in the "Beach House"). It was the most world class experience we have ever had in a hotel...a great destination if you really want to splurge and treat yourself to an unforgettable vacation.

We stayed at the Viceroy just behind shutters and thought Coast would be a great place to have lunch and enjoy the sun. Sadly we got stuck in a corner when there were other tables available and the food was average at best. Plenty of better places in SM for sure!

Shutters is one of those rare hotels that knows exactly how to hit that very special note between luxury and approachability. Public spaces with well-curated art, interior design that recognizes the value of the getting the details just right, a restaurant with wonderful food and staff, and an overall understanding by the staff at large that luxury hotels need not...

Santa Monica is a must when staying in LA and after spending at least 10-12 hollidays in Santa Monica it comes down to a choise between Loews hotel and Shutters. My visit in October was my first stay at Shutters and it was just as cozy and charming as I had expected. Light and bright with a homy atmosphere which...

Shutters was recommended by the folks at San Ysidro, who we stayed with in Santa Barbara several years ago. It was immediately apparent why they recommended Shutters - there is a kinship in service excellence and style between the two. We arrived early from the East Coast and our needs were met by the staff at every turn. We asked...

This review is a bit delayed but I won't soon forget our stay at Shutters. THE GOOD The rooms are gorgeous, with tons light, impeccable, and spacious. We had an ocean view room and left the windows open at night, falling asleep to the sound of the waves. The hotel is in a beautiful spot and the beach is gorgeous....

Staying in Santa Monica

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Monica
Santa Monica is a coastal town that maintains a balance as a tourist destination and as an area with a thriving local culture. On the beach, bikers, roller-bladers, runners and walkers move along the famed bike path enjoying the beautiful Los Angeles weather. The solar-powered Ferris wheel at the Santa Monica pier spins high above the water, while park revelers scream with delight riding the roller coaster. Inland from the beach, Third Street Promenade bustles with shoppers and street performers, where every block seems to have a musical or acrobatic act drawing crowds giving Santa Monica both the feeling of a laid-back beach town and a major commercial hub.
