First, the location of the Hotel California, merely yards from the Santa Monica beach, is almost unbeatable. A few minutes' walk and you're on the sand. On the other side, however, there is a busy road, although my road-facing room was not unduly noisy. Secondly, the room prices represent great value for money, in an area where prices at other,...

Thanks for such an awesome review Felipe! Your description of our hotel is spot on. We definitely love to stand out as the "different" and "quirky" hotel in Santa Monica! Where you're even more right is your understanding of the value we provide. On a street with $400 and $500 hotel rooms, you can rest comfortably knowing that you are...

We just got home from a long weekend stay at the Hotel California. This isn't a fancy 5 star super expensive soul-less high rise, this place has the heart and soul of Southern California. This isn't for everyone, but if you are looking for a place that's lots of fun and a little quirky, this might be your place. We...

Positives + Great location; 5 mins walk to Santa Monica Pier, 10 mins walk to 3rd Street Promenade/Santa Monica Place mall + Room is bright and comfortable bed + Friendly service + Reasonable price considering the prime location and what hotels along the same stretch are charging Negatives - Lack of parking space (chargeable as well at USD36 per night)...

stayed here for two nights at the back end of a US trip. the location is great with only a few minutes’ walk to the sand and a couple more to the pier / town centre, so there are plenty of restaurant and bar options nearby. there is on-site parking, a taxi rank out the front, and the blue bus...

If you want 5 star Luxury, stay next door at the Lowes. If you want character, stay here. Hotel California is made up of separate bungalows with separate rooms. I was in #7 and was very comfortable. I don't think any of the rooms have views of the ocean but a walk through the nice courtyard, down a flight of...

Peeling paint, bugs in the bathtub, the alley next door where cars drive by throughout the day and night, no kitchen in hotel, spotty to no wifi, safe with no key provided, smelly room. I would avoid staying here at all cost.

We picked this hotel because its price was a bit less than all the other hotels near the location. The rooms need refurbishing, but it is also the design of the hotel, made as a place for surfers to live (thus a kitchen in some rooms). The breakfast is from 7 to 9 and it is only a bagel and...

NetFreak, You are definitely right about our perfect location! While our cool, beachy style may not be for you, all of our other guests love our vibe! There are plenty of posh, corporate hotels in Santa Monica, which may suit you better on your next visit. However, be prepared to spend a few hundred dollars more at those places, NOT...

Definitely a different type of hotel than we are used to. With that being said, it was well worth giving it a try. The place is right on the beach and very quirky. Could use some TLC,but James at the reception really made our stay a great one. He was so warm and personable to our family. He even gave...

Not a five star resort, but really good location and price. Walked in here and got a room for about $150 less than the other hotels we were looking at. Parking was a little tight and we had to leave our keys with the front desk. James gave us amazing service and really made the difference.

Staying in Santa Monica

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Monica
Santa Monica is a coastal town that maintains a balance as a tourist destination and as an area with a thriving local culture. On the beach, bikers, roller-bladers, runners and walkers move along the famed bike path enjoying the beautiful Los Angeles weather. The solar-powered Ferris wheel at the Santa Monica pier spins high above the water, while park revelers scream with delight riding the roller coaster. Inland from the beach, Third Street Promenade bustles with shoppers and street performers, where every block seems to have a musical or acrobatic act drawing crowds giving Santa Monica both the feeling of a laid-back beach town and a major commercial hub.
