The Viking Motel is part of the celebrated Danish culture in Solvang. It was originally built in 1920 by Danish immigrants and was called "The Little House." Over the years it has been a honeymoon cottage, a boutique and a doctor's office. The palm trees in front of the motel were planted in 1922. Today, the historic Viking Motel offers comfortable, affordable accommodations with a flavor of old world charm. Conveniently located, the Viking Motel is close to many of Santa Barbara County’s attractions including Solvang’s Scandinavian Shopping Village, the Hans Christian Anderson Museum, the Chumash Indian Casino Resort and some of the Santa Ynez Valley’s finest wineries. Now under new management, the recently refurbished Viking Motel welcomes both American and International visitors to Solvang, California.

Really the pits. Obviously all they care about is making the most money while providing the absolute minimum. This is a touristy town & they take full advantage. The bed had one of the worst, if not the worst mattress I have ever (tried ) to sleep on. The room was tiny, barely able to move around. The pillows were bordering on absurd, they were so uncomfortable; even the soap in the bathroom was the absolute cheapest. Absolutely zero conveniences (oh they did have a small fridge); no coffee maker, no microwave. As far as cleanliness is concerned, we arrived at night, and checked out as soon as soon as we woke up, so I can’t really say, except there were stains on the blanket although, they seemed washed out. They make it seem like you’re saving money by pricing just a bit below some of the other places, but hey, if you can’t get a good nights sleep what’s the point. You’re probably much better off going to the next closest town, and driving into Solvang.

Dirty place, towels were stained with urine, and when we asked for new towels we were given stained towels, like 30 yrs old, all door cases had dust from over a years worth, this is Covid , how filthy, light was dusty, top of fridge was dusty, no microwave, no coffee, no ice machine…. Just a sickening place, maybe like if I was camping out doors in a tent 😳😬

The room was an okay size, furnished with a king bed (very hard mattress), two nightstands, a small desk and chair and a round table and two chairs. The furniture was rather beaten up. There was only a lamp on one of the nightstands. There was no phone (probably not important since everyone has a cell phone), no clock, very few wall plugs and no USB plugs. The wallpaper was torn. There was a great deal of ground in dirt on the door and door frame to the bathroom. The towels were very thin. The water, when first turned out came out an ugly brown. There was no smoke alarm in the room. There was a microwave and a fridge but the door to the freezer compartment was missing. These are things that might be overlooked at an inexpensive price but for $170 a night it was ridiculous. Solvang does tend to be expensive but for that price they need to do a lot of remodeling. For not much more you could stay somewhere much nicer. For breakfast they gave a voucher for a Danish pastry and coffee at a bakery across the street. If you tried to go there in the morning the wait was about an hour in line to get waited on. Even closer to noon, the line was 30 minutes long. Really not worth it.

We chose this dog friendly motel for a visit to Solvang. The room was clean but couldn’t have been any smaller. The bath towels were paper thin and meant for a baby. The shower never warmed up, so I passed! The location was good. They don’t have breakfast but give you a voucher for a pastry. I would def make this my last choice!

This was my first stay at a motel, and it feels like we were disillusioned by some pictures on other websites. While it has a great location and friendly staff, the room itself was quite awful. The bed creaked anytime anyone moved, the toilet seat had an awful ring around it, and the towels were dingy. Definitely not worth the weekend price they charged.

Very friendly, helpful staff, unfortunately, the room was in pretty bad shape. The furniture was beat up, no coffee maker, just the bare necessities. And I mean bare. If you wanted hot water you needed to get it from the shower! Basically you had a chest of drawers with a TV on top, a King bed, and a spartan bathroom - and all of it needed a complete face lift. It wasn't dirty, just hadn't been updated: it needed paint, there were cracks in the walls, rust around the tub, old, threadbare draperies, etc. It's the kind of place where you keep your socks on until you get into bed...and even then... That said, it was one of the few, inexpensive places in Solvang we could find that would take our two dogs - which was an additional $15.00 per dog per night charge. So - if you don't mind a property rough around the edges, then it's a bed and a roof over your head for for you and your fur babies for the night. And they throw in a coupon for complimentary coffee and a danish from Olsen's across the street.

This motel is a good budget option for those who want to be in downtown Solvang at a good price. The room is very basic ,but it is clean and the location is great. It is right on the main street in Solvang within walking distance of restaurants, bars and great pastry shops. It would be good for a family on a budget.

Very comfortable and clean. Old fashioned motel at a reasonable price. I slept the best I had slept on my 2 week trip. I loved the voucher to take to the bakery across the street. It's a great idea and I wish more motels would do something like that.

My first impression was the gentleman behind the counter. He was quite friendly and even asked if I needed help with the luggage. I think this is a first for me in a motel. The property has some character. You know it has been around longer than most of us, but the owners keep it clean and comfortable. I chose it because it was the lowest price room in town when I searched. The room was small for two people, but not horribly so. Plus, they have a big garden with tables and chairs that you can hang out in. The room was very clean, the bed was comfortable and they had extra pillows in the room. For breakfast they give you a voucher for coffee and danish at a bakery across the street. (It was very good.) All in all, I would recommend this place. The location is also perfect, right on the edge of downtown. Everything is walkable from here, and you don’t have to drive through downtown to get to your motel

We stayed here only for one night. The hotels in the vicinity of Solvang is very expensive. This is close to downtown along Mission drive near all restaurants and shops. A typical motel where you can get all the basics. Room and bathroom is clean. The owner gave us a voucher for a Danish breakfast at Olsen's it was so good (Danish pastries). I will definitely stay here again when in Solvang.
