My wife and daughter joined me on an impromtu two night visit last week. We were in town of Solvang for a family visit and did not want to stay in the normal tourist hotels. We checked in here about 3 pm and were warmly greeted and shown our villa. I would say the accomodations were very clean but on...

Alisal Ranch offers over 10,000 acres of great trails for horseback riding for all levels. They have excellent horse, knowledgeable wranglers and unbelievable acres of riding trails. They also have two golf courses, a large lake with lots of fishing, boating, archery, air rifle, swimming, jacuzzi, spa, workout gym and more. The food is excellent as is the service. The...

The perfect place to relax and smell the fresh mountain air. Once you've recharged your batteries there are many fun activities on offer such as riding a horse to a breakfast spot in the mountainside, golfing, walking, wine tasting, massages and sitting by the pool. We went as a couple, but will definitely be taking our family back to this...

The approach to the ranch is through a row of sycamore trees with one side of the road grass with grazing horses and the other side small, intimate cabins. After checking in you are directed to other cabins, such as the golf view cabins or the many other cabins that boarder the various open lawns. All around the property are...

This is SO much more than a hotel! I have traveled a lot and I would rate this as tied to my 12 trips to Hawaii (which I would have sworn was not possible)! Of course it's a totally different experience, but it will make it difficult from here on to decide which place to go for my family's annual...

We visited Alisal for a weekend in March. My husband played tennis and I did two horseback rides. It was fun and relaxing. This was our second visit. The rooms are not fancy but very comfortable. As a previous visitor mentioned it was too short. With the Roundup weekend special you get riding, golf, tennis with your room rate otherwise...

Our family of four (two young ones 7 and 5) had a wonderful time at the Alisal. The staff was fantastic as was the location and accommodations. We stayed in a recently updated room, the linens were nice. While this was our first visit, we saw many families who this was a regular tradition where they would come year after...

The Alisal is one of those special places everyone needs to have to retreat to. Set on a unique 10,000 acre active ranch, the guests have the experience of feeling part of an extended family. The rooms are simple and more than adequate; the fireplaces have real logs, the service is attentive, each guest group is assigned a table in...

My family stayed at the Alisal this past February. This was our first visit to the resort...and certainly will not be our last! From the moment we checked in, the staff created a personalized experience that we felt throughout the entire stay. From the welcome message on the daily activity roster, to the note and great bottle of wine waiting...

We've been going to The Alisal Guest Ranch for over 25 years and do a traditional visit right after President's Day, joining friends there for a 3-4 day stay. Though I was unable to make it this time, my husband went and per usual, he reports it was awesome. We've started staying in one of the newly-refurbished rooms (#59) and...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Alisal Guest Ranch & Resort is located in the beautiful Santa Ynez Valley and renowned Santa Barbara County wine country. Privately owned and operated since 1946, the Alisal is a working cattle ranch and full-service resort. This historic ranch is one of four original Spanish land grants on the west coast given to conquistador Raimundo Carrillo in the late 1700’s. Today, the romance and majesty of the old west remain in the wide-open spaces and unspoiled natural beauty of the Alisal. They serve as a reminder of simpler times and as an invitation to those with a taste for adventure. As California's premier guest ranch, the Alisal transports guests back to a bygone era. Set on a 10,000-acre working cattle ranch, this one-of-a-kind resort blends the best of nature with exceptional golf, horseback riding, tennis, fishing on a 100-acre private lake, fitness center and spa, children's activities, barnyard activities and fine dining. ... more   less
