Detailed Reviews
Stayed at the Holland Inn last week for work. Room was big, clean, and comfortable. It was a very hot day, but the room was very cool due to ac was already turned on by staff. The management and the staff was great. I had a pleasant stay there, and would recommend this hotel if in town.

Not sure when you might find yourself in Taft, but on the occasion that you do, this is a very nice hotel. It was very comfortable and clean, not like the Ritz, but nonetheless, if we went back to Taft, which we might in the future, we will definitely stay here again. The staff was very friendly, and while it was very simple, again, most importantly, it was very clean, comfortable, and quiet

A rather basic hotel but clean and quiet. Taft was probably the weirdest city I stayed in, not that it felt unsafe but very quiet and sleepy. The Motel is situated a bit away from the centre but easy to find. Lighting in the room was a bit dim, especially without light over the sitting area, but I found this was the case in many American motels I used on this trip. Adequate service when checking in and comfortable beds. Definitely worth the price for a night’s sleep. Some movements in the hotel corridor during the nights, it is apparently used by oil workers working in shifts.

AS the title says there is no other hotel in town (or at least I didnt see another one)
Granted it is only $60-$70 a nite to stay so you cannot expect the Four Seasons. However cleanliness and politeness would be a reasonable expectation.
Its a small hotel with very very thin walls; the shower is designed so that water WILL get all over your bathroom floor ( they didnt build the entry side high enough or even make it an enclosed shower).. If you have a room on the side facing the street, bring earplugs because it is pretty noisy with all of the cars that go by and kids playing loud music.
Definitely bring your own sheets and towels because the rooms didnt look very clean. The service at the front desk which is run by the owners is not particularly helpful or friendly.
I guess the bottom line is IF you have to be in Taft and have to stay in a hotel, this is your only choice BUT be prepared that you may not sleep well and that it is not as clean as a Holiday Inn or Motel 6.

My wife and I have visited the Taft area regularly for many years and have generally been happy here. We stayed in Mariposa last year, which didn't work out very well, and again this year at the Holland Inn, which didn't work out very well either. Old motels don't have to be cruddy places, but they often are. For the Holland Inn, cruddy would be a compliment.
During registration, I had to sign a form with sentences brightly highlighted releasing the motel from liability if anything was stolen from the room or our automobile. Perhaps they've had problems?
The room they put us in as dark, dingy, and freezing cold. Only one of the two ceiling lights worked and the one window was filthy. The carpet was dirty, and there was a cigarette burn that went completely through the bedspread. The heater / air conditioner was mounted close to the ceiling, making it possible to read the control panel only by climbing up on a low table. The bed was hard, and the sheets didn’t fit. We had wireless access but there wasn’t any working surface in the room unless you sat on the bed and held the computer in your lap.
We used the room for an hour, paid for it, and aren’t so fussy we wouldn’t have stayed there but were unexpectedly called away and wound up spending the night in Bakersfield. At the junction of hwy 58 and 99 there are several nice hotels and motels. We found a big, clean, comfortable room at the Best Western – a night and day difference from the Holland Inn and less expensive.
I don’t know of any good place to stay in Taft or Mariposa. We will continue making regular visits to the area, but plan to stay in Bakersfield.

Artesia, New Mexico, United States11 contributions6 helpful votesGiven there are only a couple of options for lodging in Taft, I would recommend staying in Bakersfield, a short 30 minute drive.
Holland is the best of the worst in Taft. Checked in to our room & notice all the windows in the room were open, quickly discovered why. The room had an overwhelming urine odor! In addition to that, the light over the vanity only illuminated to about 20% of what it should. No way I could apply make up or fix my hair in the lack of light. We requested another room that did not smell of urine & they obliged. The new room, was void of the urine odor, however it still smelled awful. And was also steps away from the ice machine, which we listened to guest using until wee hours and it started again about 4 am.
Admittedly it's been a while since I stayed in a dodgy motel. But in my younger years, I definitely had my fair share of stays in a 2 star place.
The room itself was spacious, included a sofa, desk, tv, large bed, microwave & mini-fridge. Of course you have to unplug either the fridge or microwave if you want to plug in a blow dryer or flat iron at the vanity.
Location is good, had a cute little pool, the water looked nasty, though it was very early spring when we were there (March).
If/when I have to go back to Taft for work, I will absolutely stay in Bakersfield. Well worth the drive. If you must stay in Taft, then Holland Inn is the best option.

We stayed here over night prior to heading to a workshop early the next morning. The glory days of Taft are long past and this place reflected this. This old oil town is run down even though there are still many oil wells pumping all around it.
The room we were given was shabby and worn. The sheets seemed clean but the blanket was ready to be thrown out. One of reasons I selected this place is because it boosted a nice hot tub. Well the hot was part of the parking lot and the heater had burned out so we had to make do with luke warm water. It wasn't terrible, there was a nice waterfall feature, but not the experience I had hoped for.
The receptionist said that the place had just been bought, and there were new owners so maybe things will change, but check before you make your booking.
