Nestled in nature, Hideaway Rio Celeste Hotel garners acclaim for its pristine cleanliness, spacious rooms, and enchanting atmosphere that blends luxury with the lush environment. Guests appreciate the hotel's proximity to national parks and private trails, though some find the food and tour prices steep. With private river access and a range of tours, the amenities at Hideaway Rio Celeste are a highlight, as is the personalized service that leaves visitors feeling well cared for. However, a few reviewers note the rooms' rustic charm could use an update.

We stayed at the Hideaway for 2 nights and I rate it higher than the most luxurious resort in this country, though more private, wild-life oriented, less ostentatious and if course less expensive. The Hideaway abuts Tenorio national park and has its own access to the beautiful blue Rio Celeste and the tapir preserve. The rooms are furnished in heavy wood furniture like something out of Zorro. Each Casita is encased in tall vegetation so you can sit in your porch and not be seen. Behind each room is an outdoor shower room, again completely private. The pool area includes 3 jacuzzis of varying temperatures. The complimentary breakfasts are wonderful, though dinners and lunches are very expensive (my only complaint).
The Hideaway contracts with one tour company, Rio Celeste Nature. And offers a complimentary night tour of the gardens. Jostin was our guide for this and found a variety of teeny tree frogs I never would have seen.
We went tubing with Luis in the beautiful Rio Celeste which was exhilarating. Luis took us to the 400 year old Leave tree, just amazing!

Hideaway Rio Celeste is an incredible resort. Each and every amazing employee took pride in their work and made us feel welcome throughout our stay. The resort is extremely well maintained and each of the rooms are private, while only being steps from the amenities. Room design, pool design, trails, and restaurant options show that the resort puts thought into the details! Highly recommend the night walk and 6am bird watching, both very educational and rewarding.
Our three night stay was short, but the stellar employees made every minute enjoyable! We would absolutely stay here again. Thank you!

I don’t usually write reviews, but I had to make an exception for Hideaway Rio Celeste because the service was truly outstanding. From the moment we arrived, every staff member was incredibly friendly and went out of their way to make our stay perfect.

Paulo, Josten, Cristin, Kathy, and Jennifer were all amazing, always greeting us with a smile and making sure we had everything we needed. Their kindness and attention to detail really stood out.

Off-site, Nano, Felix, Juan Carlos, and Walter made our experience even more special. Whether it was helping with excursions or sharing their knowledge of the area, they were all fantastic.

The hotel itself is beautiful, with comfortable rooms, and a peaceful atmosphere. But what really makes this place special is the people. Thank you all for making our stay unforgettable!

Our family of 4 stayed at Hideaway Rio Celeste from Tuesday, March 26th to Saturday, March 30th. We stayed in villa #6. The room was beautiful and spotless with a peaceful view of the forest right outside our door.

(One word of caution…construction is currently taking place to build a second restaurant and it was directly outside our villa. Luckily, it was Holy Week while we were there and they took the last half of the week off, so we were undisturbed most of our stay. However, if visiting anytime in the next few months, I would recommend requesting a villa further from that area. See picture of resort map for reference. The new restaurant being built is labeled "J" in the picture.)

The pool area was quaint, peaceful, well-kept, and there was never a shortage of chairs.

The atmosphere at the restaurant was beautiful and relaxing and all of the food was delicious! In the mornings, be sure to sit near the outer edge where the staff puts fresh fruit in the trees that is enjoyed by many local birds and even the resident coati, Poncho.

And, the private access to the Rio Celeste was something special. The river is gorgeous and so refreshing.

(I would recommend wearing water shoes when visiting the river, as it’s very rocky and our shoes gave us much needed traction and good foot protection.)

Booking tours through the hotel was so easy and all three of our tours ended up being private tours since no other families booked at the same time!

All that said, the best and most memorable part of Hideaway is the people who work there. Shout out to Nelson, Catherine & Ismael! These are truly some of the most authentic and warm people we have ever met. It was hard to say goodbye and our family has already decided that our next trip to Costa Rica will include another stay at Hideaway to visit our new amigos/amigas again. Pura Vida! Until next time, friends.

Dear Angela, We are delighted to hear that your family enjoyed a memorable stay with us, and we sincerely appreciate your kind words. We are delighted to know that you found the casita #6 beautiful and immaculate, offering a peaceful view of the forest. Your comments about the construction near your casita are duly taken into account, and we apologize for any inconvenience you may have caused. We appreciate your understanding and recommendations. We are happy to know that you have enjoyed the quiet pool area, the delicious dining experiences and the unique atmosphere of our Katala restaurant. The view of the local birds and Pancho, the resident coati, are the extra touch of magic to our breakfast mornings. We are delighted to know that you have found our private access to the Celeste River special and refreshing. Thanks for the helpful tips on using water shoes for extra traction and protection, they will be of much help to our future guests. We are delighted that booking tours with the guys at the reception was easy and you were able to enjoy private tours. Your recognition of Nelson, Katherine and Ismael warms our hearts. Indeed, they are exceptional people who embody the spirit of hospitality, and we will be sure to convey their kind words. It was a real pleasure to welcome your family, and we look forward to welcoming you for another unforgettable stay. Until then, may the spirit of Pura Vida accompany you wherever you go. The most amazing experience!! The location is perfect for a getaway to disconnect from the world and listen to the sounds of nature…you get woken up by the sounds of the birds!! Every morning I sat on the deck and watched the butterflies, humming birds…listened to the river. The casitas are warm, inviting and very comfortable. Loved the outdoor shower!! We had taken a package which included dinners and lunch and a guided trip to the Tenorio National park and water falls. We loved the tour even in the pouring rain and our guide Felix who had an excellent sense of humour made it an extra special experience with all the pics he took of both of us and explained everything so patiently. The water fall is beautiful and worth coming here!! The staff is wonderful at the property and everyone takes extra special care of you and goes the extra mile to make your stay memorable.

I wish there had been an option for 4.5 stars - because that is what I would have given. We stayed for four nights and felt it was the perfect amount of time to relax and do all of the activities we wanted while we were in the jungle.

The rooms are beautiful and I was pleasantly surprised they included a mini fridge which was fantastic for traveling with our toddler. There's a small supermarket in the town before the hotel if you're traveling from Liberia that you could stop and get essentials from. We stayed in both a queen and king forest room and both were lovely. The rooms were also spotlessly clean.

The included breakfast was delicious and the fruit they put out so you could view animals was a highlight of our mornings. There was one morning they did not put fruit on both sides, so we were left without the view, which would have been more disappointing had we not had a longer stay. Halfway through our trip they started charging for breakfast items that had not previously been charged for which was disappointing to see. The lunch at the pool and dinners in the restaurant were very good. We loved the live music every night. Our largest disappointment was that the cocktails had imperceptible amounts of alcohol in them. I'm surprised to see positive reviews about them because it was widely recognized amongst others we talked with. Luckily, they had a good wine and beer selection, but for having such a beautiful bar area and swim up bar at the pool it would've made the service more upscale to have good cocktails.

The amenities are plentiful at Hideaway and we enjoyed them all - hiking the property, the spa, the heated pool and the night tour. They recommended a wonderful animal tour that was a highlight of our trip.

The staff are wonderful. In particular Ismael and Katherine. They were very kind to our daughter and provided exceptional service.

Overall, we loved our stay at Hideaway and would be very happy to return.

My fiancé and I stayed here in August to celebrate our engagement and it was by far the best hotel we have ever stayed at. The hotel is in the middle of the rainforest and has walking paths on site that go directly to Rio Celeste. We hiked the trails multiple times during our stay. One of the most unique parts was all the wildlife in and around the complex. We loved seeing the resident native mammal Pancho that ate his papaya right outside the restaurant most mornings. Our bungalow was beautiful, clean, perfectly decorated and we especially loved the privacy, outdoor shower, and the porch where we drank coffee in the morning.

It rained quite a bit while we were there (didn’t realize we were traveling during the rainy season) but even with the rain, we had an amazing time just hanging out at the complex. We especially loved hanging out by the pool, drinking margaritas and eating the yummy ceviche at the swim up bar.

The food and drinks at the restaurant were incredible! All the food is locally sourced and made on site (and you can taste the difference)… unlike some hotel restaurants, the hideaway’s was worth every penny for the food. It was equivalent to what we would pay (and above what we would expect) on a date night out in the U.S. The breakfast was my personal favorite - traditional food plus things you’d find in the states. Coffee was fantastic as is to be expected in CR.

Most importantly, the service was absolutely impeccable. From the front desk manager to the guy that delivered our bags in the rain to every single server that works the restaurant and bar, every person was attentive, caring, and truly seemed to enjoy their job. Nelson, Kathy and Christian made our stay way better than we ever could’ve imagined. We loved talking with and learning about CR culture from them. Nelson was especially kind and generous to us… he never got annoyed with our questions about CR, practiced Spanish with me, and always greeted us with a smile and made a point to say hello when we saw him, even if he wasn’t our server. The employees (and location) are what sets this place apart from other hotels. We loved it so much that we asked to stay an extra night on our third day there. Unsurprisingly they were booked but that’s just to say how great our stay was.

We have recommend the hideaway to all of our friends and family and we hope to come back and do it all again.

Dear Hunter, We value your kind comments about your experience with us. So happy you met Pancho, he's kinda naughty sometimes, but we love him! Our heated pool and tubs have became a must, especially on the rainy days! We've got a new styled pool, you definitely have to come back and enjoy it too! Can't recommend this place enough. It was amazing 10/10. The staff was amazing, so kind and welcoming. We made good friends with Josue, who was awesome! The masseuseus were also fantastic, had the best massage of my life. The property is also beautiful, and they have their own private trails and area of the Rio Celest you can swim in. We saw monkeys in the trees almost everyday, and on the complimentary night walk (if you book through the hotel website) we saw frogs and a viper! The rooms are amazing and huge, including an outdoor shower, so you can literally shower in the rainforest! If you're considering this place, I highly suggest booking, it was wonderful.

Absolutely magical place. Start with the staff. These folks make you feel like family from the moment you arrive until they all gather to say goodbye. So much warmth. From Cristian and Nelson Ramirez, Walter, Manfred, Mariano, Ismael and Katherine to Gabriela the general manager, these are top-notch individuals. Whatever Gabriela is getting paid it's not enough.
The property. Five stars in the jungle. The cleaning staff and grounds keepers are at it from dawn to dusk. You couldn't find a spec of dust or an errant leaf if you tried. Immaculate. Each bungalow is exquisitely appointed. I could have stayed on the balcony all day every day watching and listening to all the wildlife.
Amenities. Fabulous pool, swim up bar, three hot tubs, fully glassed jungle gym. Then there is the Rio Celeste river accessible on the property grounds down maintained trails. The water is turquoise from the volcanic minerals and you can wade or swim as you wish. Just gorgeous.
The food. Numerous selections for breakfast, lunch and dinner all beautifully prepared and delicious and served in the spacious dining room constructed with heavy timbers and high ceilings. All surrounded by lush vegetation and alive with birds and butterflies with light music playing in the background.
We will definitely make a return trip to visit our new friends and see the new amenities being constructed (spa, sushi bar, yoga studio and gift shop). Thanks to everyone at Rio Celeste for such a great time!!!

Hideaway was simply gorgeous with impeccable staff. My family of five traveled here and comfortably stayed in the room with beautiful outdoor shower in the midst of the rainforest. The grounds were stunning, temming with wildlife everywhere. You could not walk 10-feet without seeing monkeys, snakes, frogs, birds galore. Pool was heated so enjoyable at all times. Staff was incredibly helpful in booking/moving tours. Very kid friendly but also romantic, which for those with kids, know how difficult that is.

Really enjoyed Felix with Rio Celeste Concierge. It rained a good bit while we were there but he provided multiple tips and trips to get the best out of our time and facilitated plans with ease.

The trail is quite easy and it’s well marked. However, don’t take the first access to the river. There’s a 2nd one with a little hut. There you can swim. I wouldn’t consider it very safe though. But for an adult it shouldn’t be a problem.
