Detailed Reviews
We stayed here for one night in late August. The hotel/pub is a ten minute walk down to Mousehole (allow fifteen to get back up!). We were greeted warmly by the young man at the bar. He talked us through the ‘procedures’ and then shown to our room. The room itself was spotlessly clean, comfy bed and lovely shower. The whole pub is very clean and the safety measures excellent. We also ate here in the evening and the food was delicious and reasonably priced. All the staff working were really friendly and attentive despite the challenges of needing to keep a distance. The breakfast the next morning was spot on too with really nice (and proper) coffee. I’d highly recommend this place, you’d be hard pressed to find anything wrong

DanielQ All members of staff and management at The Kings Arms Paul are very pleased with your very positive comments. You have covered all the elements of our service that we strive to withhold on a daily basis. From the excellent home cooked food to the comfortable well equipped bedrooms which are meticulously cleaned and kept this way continually. As indeed are all areas of the establishment as you so courteously stated. The most important element for us was all this being carried out while your enjoyment was not compromised in any way and our very friendly helpful staff did all in their power to make your stay so enjoyable. If you are ever in this area again to have a repeat visit to Mousehole and saunter up the very scenic hill we look forward to hosting you again.

Brilliant staff who are friendly and professional but on this occasions the food was not up to the standard of previous visits. We have visited a few times for Sunday lunch and in a previous review i classed it as the best in the area. I don’t know what’s changed? Is there a new chef??? The beef was tough and tasteless not the beautiful brisket we had on previous visits. The roast potatoes tasted like they had been in a deep fat fryer not roasted. On a positive, the vegetables were tasty but not as good a variety as previously received. The meal was good value at £16 for 2 courses but sadly we won’t be returning it was nothing special .

We booked 2 rooms for 3 nights at a total cost of £1012.50p to include breakfast. After being shown to our Rooms we became aware that both bedrooms overlooked the carpark and there were a number of tables situated outside for alfresco eating/drinking. . We were worried that if these tables were occupied through the evening, it would have a detrimental effect on us trying to get some sleep .....after 10 p.m.this proved to be the case as the racket below our windows went on til after 11 p.m. Because of this we stayed only the one night. This Pub became the most expensive place we have ever stayed in in the UK..
In the morning we had a light breakfast prepared by the only member of staff who was available and who doubled up as the cleaner. To be fair she did a good job but the service we received certainly did not justify the extortionate cost and as a result we will avoid using BOOKING.COM. ever again and will advise any of our friends to do the same.

Rosemary, thank you for your recent review? You are correct in saying you did book two rooms, one Superking size and one family room for 3 nights. The cost of which is reflective of costs across the region. The rooms do overlook a carpark with beautiful views of mounts bay if you had looked a little further than the carpark. Our outside tables are available for use up to 11pm as advertised on booking.com although the 3 people who were using them on your first evening were also residents and were definitely not in any way loud. Your light breakfast was your choice and was prepared by a chef not a cleaner. The housekeeper serves breakfasts. Had you of spoken to us we could have released the rooms back onto the market and resold them and arranged a refund for you once the rooms sold. However you chose not to speak to anyone to arrange this and instead stated that “something had came up at home and you would have to leave” Next time you book somewhere check to see if it is a hotel or a pub and maybe read the descriptions as ours are very accurate. All very organised.

Driving past we decided to stop for coffee as the outside tables looked inviting. Having been checked in we were sat at a table and decided to order two desserts as well as coffee. Unfortunately there was a young fellow who was on his own, very drunk very loud and still being served more alcohol by the waitresses. When our barely warm coffees arrived we expressed our concern to the waitress as he was going round various guests trying to engage them in conversation and hug them. We were told he was a local who had just returned from sea and to press the call buzzer if we we needed assistance. A group of people he had been sitting with left and he tried to sit with us. As we had had to drink the lukewarm coffee quickly we decided to leave and went to the pub to cancel the desserts and pay for the coffees. However the desserts had already been plated and the staff insisted they should be paid for. As they had our contact details and car registration and the drunk was becoming involved we didn’t want anymore confrontation and paid full price to have them packaged as takeaway. This was a very unfortunate experience that the very pleasant but young staff didn’t seem able to deal with. Such a shame as the desserts were very tasty after

I am sorry to hear now that you did not enjoy your visit to the Kings Arms despite haven spoken to you at your table. We do not tolerate drunken behaviour and thankfully it is a very rare occurance here at the a Kings Arms. The individual you refer to was asked to leave. We were not notified about any problem with the temperature of your coffees at the time otherwise we would have happily made fresh ones for you. Your claim that it was insisted that you pay for the Desserts is simply false, you said clearly that you were happy to pay for them but had decided to leave and didn't want to finish them, it was at this point that it was suggested the desserts could be boxed up for you to take away. We do not have your contact details or car registration. Names and contact numbers may be taken for the purpose of Test and Trace in accordance with guidelines for those without the NHS trace and track app, but we have no access to these details for any other purpose. We would be happy for you to call us on 01736731224 to clarify further.

I started this review earlier but seemed to restricted by length.
We arrived, our booking could not initially be found.
We booked dinner, again this couldn’t be found. A drinks order was taken.
Menus provided and order submitted; it took 45 minutes to serve (the kitchen was very busy and ur was very hot in the kitchen); this was their explanation, I kid you not.
We had an early start the following morning, and had booked breakfast accordingly; the chef wasn’t in, the toaster blew the fuse board so no hot food available!
Never again.

Reviewed recently and got a whole lot of sarcasm in response which explains the complacent attitude of the manager.
Apparently we had booked at short notice. We booked when we arrived after travelling 9.5 hours. Wish we hadn't booked at all.
When we questioned the food they stated I wouldnt let Roger the manager 🥳 speak, which after him not accepting the food was substandard and he just repeated himself, yes I did ask him to stop and the only way was talk over him. Simply we had had enough of his nonsense.
We left most of the food and in response to our review they stated we had eaten it all. Even the waitresses turned up their noses and apologised when they saw the quality of what was put in the boxes.
You need to look and see what others are doing with takeaway or outdoor service.
Good luck to you in just ignoring the 1 star reviews.

On arriving in Paul we went to the Kings Arms for a drink and booked a table for an evening meal and another for Sunday lunch. The evening meal was ok with the exception of the al dante greens which none of us managed to eat.
However, we waited in excess of an hour and half for Sunday lunch to be served after ordering. Apologies were made by the staff for the delay and excuses and reasons were explained but we had to request to see the bar manager to offer his apologies. Totally unacceptable delays. Yes they were busy, but the table service appeared unorganised, embarrassingly so for the staff who were trying to hold it together. Eventually the chef also came to apologise for the delays and offered to clear our bill, which we politely refused. We accepted the offer of deserts which were lovely and a fair gesture after a disappointing meal experience. Meals were reasonable quality, not exceptional and a little over priced for quality and quantity on offer.
Would we recommend the Kings Arms? No. Not until we could be assured that the table service is improved.

We visited for Sunday lunch in late October 2022.
An excellent roast meal with choice of beef, gammon or turkey.
Excellent quantity of well cooked meat and roast potatoes and copious amounts of 5 different vegetables all of a high quality.
Inexpensive but of a high standard.
Highly recommended.

This review is regarding the inn. The stay was just okay. But I won't get into that. I initially booked through a well known 3rd party travel company and paid upfront. On arrival, the barman asked that I pay again, not having any record that I had paid. I left my contact details, and called several times, mostly being told the manager was not available and off the premises. I did speak to the manager once who told me they would look into the situation. I have received no further contact, and the 3rd party travel site is telling me they are not able to reach the hotel manager to discuss the issue. I will most likely have to dispute through my credit card company. Buyer beware, if you run into any snags, you will likely find this hotel very unresponsive and unwilling to help. I've yet to receive any follow up contact.
