My husband & I stayed here last July & the hotel was under renovation. We were surprised when we arrived this year to find it was STILL being renovated ( especially since the response to my last review was the project would be complete in January). The front doors still haven't been replaced with automatic doors making it difficult to hold the door open & manuever your luggage in. It seemed only the 3rd floor had completed renovations. We had a king room on that floor and as another reviewer mentioned it was surprisingly small (next time I'll book a 2 queen & hope for more space). It did have a nice walk in shower with rain shower head & they provide bath & body works toiletries which is nice. Kim was helpful & friendly at check in. The housekeeping staff were all friendly & did…

Dear Seadreams, Thank you for choosing to stay with us when you are in town. We appreciate your feedback and can understand your frustration with renovations. Trust me, we are just as anxious to have this completed. As I'm sure you know, this is an older building and we are trying our best to bring it to the shiny glory it should be. I am glad that my team made such a great impression on you. It always makes me proud to see a guest mention someone by name. We hope to see you again and you will appreciate our completed renovations. Best, Paul Kochanski General Manager

We stayed here two nights and given a room on the 3rd floor, newly remodeled. We had a nice, big TV, frig, microwave and an in-room safe. A big minus for me was the small room we had! Geez, it was so small the king bed took up 90% of the room! There was s small desk but we could hardly get the chair out because of the small space between it and the bed. Barely any room to lay a suitcase out. No room for any other kind of chair...it was almost claustrophobic. Maybe it’s just the corner rooms?? The breakfast offered was good, with eggs, sausage, cereal, pancakes. They didn’t offer free water bottles in the lobby...the previous Hol Inn Xpress we stayed in, did. If it wasn’t for the extremely small room I would’ve given it more stars because it was nice and quiet in the area around…

Dear V K, Thank you for noticing out exciting remodel. Unfortunately you did book one of the smallest rooms that we have available. There are only 7 of them that are on property. While we love to spoil our guests, handing out complimentary waters is against the brand standards and unfortunately not all hotels follow the operating rules. We are sorry for the let down. We do hope you stay with us again in the future. Best, Paul Kochanski General Manager

I booked this last minute for my 13 year old daughter and myself. Only a week ago the sports she plays announced the location of her championship weekend. I did not have time to research the area. So 1st impression coming off the highway was great because all you could see was the hotel. You don't need signs to find it because you see it coming off the high way. The outside needs some tlc but they are remodeling. We are on the 3rd floor and you do get greeted by a wonderful smell of new carpet. That is comforting. The rooms are very nice and updated. Plenty of plugs and USB chargers. Very nice tv that actually works, refridgerator, and over all just a nice comforting room. I am a commercial builder or remodeler and they have done a nice job but it is really just a surface…

Dear Foliagehomes, Thank you for staying with us and providing comments on your most recent stay. I am so sorry for the experience you had. Rest assured, this is not a common occurrence at the hotel. I am actually following up with that military group to get to the bottom of that incident. Be advised, that from a hotel perspective, we did follow proper procedure and at the time our agent did immediately go up to the floor. At that inspection, the agent reported she only heard loud talking and did let those guests know to quiet down. We completely understand the feeling you felt, and the disruption to your part of the stay. We hope that you do choose us again should you be in the area. Best Regards, Paul Kochanski General Manager

We had a room that was remodeled and loved that it felt updated. Areas under remodel are in progress. Front doors and lobby are badly worn. Front Desk Staff were less than professionally dressed, and lack polish in Customer Service. and housekeeping failed to properly restock supplies in the room (TP)

Dear Wick L, I'm glad to see you enjoyed what we are remodeling into! As in any construction there are growing pains, and it tends to point out the areas that are still in need. I'm sorry about the front desk team. They are fully dressed in the brand required uniforms, we do host a $5 jeans day with all proceed's to St. Jude Children's Medical Hospital. On those days we put out plenty of signage and try to give back. I'm not sure if that was one of the days you were here. Wishing you the best, Paul Kochanski General Manager

I hesitate to rate this place as average, because if it truly is the average experience, that's very disappointing. There are many items about which I might complain. They appear to be trying to make a festival out of renovating. Signs with things like, "Yay! Great things are coming!" might be very motivational for the staff, but they do nothing for the poor traveler who just happened to book here and was not told how upside down the whole place is. Workers arrived at roughly 8 AM and by any evidence I could gain, began blasting with explosives. The noise continued unabated until at least 5 PM. The free breakfast offered all of the standard Holiday Inn items, but slightly off. Lukewarm coffee. Stale cinnamon buns. You get the idea. The worst part of the experience was the…

Dear Brian M, I recently sent you a private email in regards to your last stay. We truly apologize for your experience. Unfortunately there never seems to be a good time to complete renovations. We do try our best with signage and banners on our website. I apologize for the noise. We are expected to be completed in May. We do hope to see you again. Best, Paul Kochanski General Manager

Hotel is under renovation. I understand it being a hard time on people traveling and the staff but this is the time for them to shine. The first room I checked into had significant mold and I was moved to the third floor. For the most part there is only one desk person with more than a “meh”attitude. Every time entering the hotel they are usually to busy watching tv or eating to notice anyone. If you are in the area spend the money and go somewhere else.

We had a king size bed with a new mattress. The room was not large but was clean and nicely decorated. The bathroom had been totally redone - very modern - just has a shower - no tub - but that was fine with us. The hallway on the third floor had been redone. New carpet and wallpaper. It is obvious that they did not replace the old doors and mouldings - which is really too bad. They just spray painted them. You can still see all the old dents in the doors and mouldings.

This motel is hard to find with limited direction signs from highway to facility. Facility has been allowed to get run down and renovations are underway. Night staff are not friendly or helpful. A lot of construction people are staying here creating very questionable comfort for patrons. Parking is good when you finally arrive. Breakfast is close to door and foot traffic, limited food choices. Rooms old but comfortable and clean. Room temperature can not be controlled, room remained cold.

Dear Robert C, I'm disappointed to see your lower feedback for this hotel. I do agree that our building is showing its signs of age, which explains the current renovations. Was there any issues with night staff more specifically? I will be addressing this with my team, but any examples for further details would be appreciated. Our Smart Start breakfast does feature quite a lot of options. From scrambled eggs, sausage or bacon, egg white omelets, hot cinnamon buns, pancakes, pastry, oatmeal, breakfast potatoes and much more. All of our guest rooms have a wireless thermostat on the wall in each room. The temperature can be set from 65-85 degrees which can usually make most guests very comfortable. Have a great day and thank you for choosing us, Paul Kochanski General Manager

This was worst the IHG hotel I ever stayed... most disgusting and dirty hotel. Stains every where, smelled bad and safety hazard in the elevator. I can't believe IHG let this hotel to use their brand. The staff were nice but the hotel was extremely poor condition and they should not open for the business. We were so concerned about the room condition and didn't even sleep under the blanket and didn't use the shower. The IHG should send their own inspector to re-evaluate this hotel. I feel bad for the staff members. The front desk lady and breakfast server were both nice. I didn't get to meet cleaning crew but this hotel is so old and dirty that probably can't even get cleaned. Stay away from this hotel.

Dear pkim3, I am so sorry to see the review of your recent stay. I completely agree that our building is showing its true signs of age. This hotel is recently purchased and the new owners have connected directly with IHG and are in the midst of a full property renovation. Please feel free to reach out to me directly, and I would be delighted to coordinate a return visit when the renovations are complete. Have a great day, Paul Kochanski General Manager pkochanski@southingtonHIexpress.com

I'm ihg Elite, Holiday Inns are my first choice in lodging across the US. This is the first HI I ever stayed in that had plastic mattress pads on the beds. What are they thinking is going to happen in the bed? It was so uncomfortable and noisy. Also, the room smelled very musty and the hallways smelled like someone was cooking fish in their room. The pool was ICE cold and I noticed that there was a hose running directly into it. 2 stars for the good coffee and cookies.

Dear LiMom2016, Thank you for staying with us. I'm sorry to see the lower star rating from your last stay! One of the largest challenges with an outdoor pool is water evaporation. Unfortunately that means we need to add more water from time to time. Additionally some nights the temperature does drop, which makes for a cold swim! We are currently under a full renovation since our building is showing its signs of age. We are expected to be completed by January 2018. We hope to see you back next summer. All the best, Paul Kochanski General Manager
