Detailed Reviews
The Bawah is one of the most beautiful places I have been. We had such a great time, we can't wait to go back. The food is exceptional and the entire staff is so friendly and accommodating. Our overwater bungalow was perfect and waking up to the sound of waves each morning was wonderful. The snorkeling, private picnics & dinner beachside, spa services & hiking helped make this a memorable trip. We will be back!

It is the best ultra-luxury hideaway resort I have ever experienced. I stayed in a one-bedroom over-water bungalow, which has a unique design. It has a huge verandah with a sundeck bed that is accessible for swimming in the lagoon ocean pool. The bedroom area is immaculate, with a comfortable bed, a personalised drinks option on the minibar, and a stylish bathroom with luxury amenities.

Bawah is one of six islands (two inhabited) 80 minutes by sea plane from Batam, Indonesia, itself a short ferry ride from Singapore.
We stayed for four nights, and took advantage of the many activities on Bawah: scuba diving and snorkeling among the beautiful live reefs; hiking the trails above the island (where the photo opportunities are terrific); playing tennis on the freshly maintained grass court; getting superb massages at the Spa Center -- and eating very well at two separate restaurants (which have wine lists supervised by the Sommelier, Jeron, who does a great job in multiple languages).
All this at the ultimate Eco-friendly island. I must emphasize this: there are floating solar panels, the largest currently in Asia, and we were witnesses to the release of baby sea turtles, with no mishaps, into the ocean. Sustainability is fully integrated in the DNA of this quiet resort. I was particularly impressed that much work to enhance reef protection and growth was done during the pandemic lockdown by the skeleton staff who worked daily on grafting coral to artificial reef structures.
If you want to organize a conference, share a quiet weekend with your significant other or family (no young children, however) this is the perfect place.
The staff is amazing. Each individual or couple is assigned a staff person to look out for your every need: ours was Tammy, who did a great job. There was no detail that wasn’t covered in the most elegant and thoughtful way. I hope to return often in the future.
If you would like further information on this truly amazing place, please contact Raymond Saja at raymond@bawahreserve.com

Dear Professor David, Thank you so much for your lovely comments. The team is always thrilled to read about our guests’ experiences in Bawah. We have been quite fortunate to reopen with our new floating solar farm powering the resort, as well as having had the time and resources to rehabilitate large sections of our coral reefs over the last two and half years. It was a delight meeting both yourself and Ellen and hope all goes amazingly well with your upcoming move. Hope to see you again one day soon….. in Bawah!

This was simply like no other place on earth. The resort is one the most beautiful reef I have ever seen, with magnificent sandy beaches, world class snorkelling and diving. Stunning.
The resort itself is amazing. Beautiful villas, incredible food from some of the best designed island resort restaurants anywhere, served by eager, professional staff. Nothing was a problem. Nothing.
Even the quick commute from Singapore was amazing. Landing by sea plane on one of the great natural lagoons in the world was brilliant.
A completely and committed eco-friendly resort, relying on renewable energy, no waste and supporting local sea life topped it off.
This could just be the best resort anywhere ( and see my reviews of the others we have been to).

My husband and I just returned from 4 days at Bawah Reserve and I felt compelled to write an immediate review. The entire stay was pure bliss, we enjoyed two of the hiking paths, yoga with Tami, snorkeling on our own along with one of the guided tours with Agus, we went on the SUP’s for hours, enjoyed the sunset tour and thoroughly enjoyed our spa treatments. We also went to the beautifully equipped gym. The restaurants were delicious with a variety for each meal, my husband has a nut allergy and they remembered to leave out the nuts for each meal, without me asking. The service is next level, the attention to the biggest and smallest details, our beach front villa was beautiful, clean, great amenities. The staff are genuine, friendly and will go above and beyond to ensure your stay is as expected. My husband and I have a rule to not return to a place once we have been, no matter how wonderful because life is short and the planet is large. Bawah might be the one and only exception for a return, it was that good.

Amazing place, amazing resort, amazing staff. We experienced some hickups food wise with for example long waits in the restaurant in the evening, and some not-quite-there dishes on occasions - but given the remote location, the warm and genuine atmosphere, the ambience, attention for details, the wow-feeling on literally every other aspect it was never an issue. A true special paradise and barefoot luxury at its best. We snorkeled on the amazing house reef, went out with the snorkeling boat, took the sunset tour, had a private picnic on one of the nearby islands, had daily massage treatments, played tennis and chilled by our pool with the beautiful ocean right in front of of us.

We have been to many places but Bawah reserve is just Amazing. As an Indonesian myself I'm proud of this part of Indonesian archipelago with its soft sandy beach and clear turquoise water. At the Island, everyday was a great day. The spa was lovely and very relaxing with proffesional therapists. The activities were great fun and enjoyable. We loved the snorkeling and sailing. Most of all we love the staff of Bawah reseve. We can't say all the names because they are all very lovely, friendly and attentive. For us it was like staying with a family.

We spent 6 nights at Bawah for our honeymoon, with 2 nights in the beach villa and 4 in the over water villa. The property and staff are amazing and we couldn’t have been happier with our stay.
The facilities are beautiful and look exactly like the pictures online. The sustainability message is strong and the staff was very knowledgeable about the efforts when asked. The attention to detail when it comes to service was also incredible, every single staff member greeted us by name and made us feel like we were the only guests on the island.
The food was a bit disappointing in both technique and variety, but if something was not right or we wanted something off menu, there was never a hesitation to make it or fix it for us. They were also between chefs during our stay (new chef is starting imminently) so this is likely a temporary issue.
It’s also worth noting that the beach villas are open to the environment, so bugs can enter the room. If that’s not your thing, definitely go with the over water villas which are fully enclosed.
Overall, this was a dream stay and we can’t wait to return to Bawah!
A few highlights during our stay:
* Jeron is a truly amazing sommelier and we highly recommend his Sommelier’s Table class. He spent hours teaching us the intricacies of wine and went out of his way multiple times to make sure we were taken care of during our stay.
* The cocktail making class with Budi was incredible and Budi is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to mixology. Over the course of our stay, he learned our palettes to make cocktails unique to us and was always so friendly.
* The daily spa treatments are great, and my therapist, Retno, did a particularly good job targeting the areas I requested everyday.
* We took daily yoga lessons with Tami, which we’d also recommend. We had no yoga background, but after her daily sessions we’ll certainly be continuing back home. She was great at fixing form and encouraging us to try harder variations of poses to challenge ourselves.
* A special shoutout to Rio and Naomi who we met at the two restaurants and always greeted us with a smile and good conversation. Also to David, who seemed to be everywhere and always checked in to see how he could make our stay the best it could possibly be.

We travelled to Bawah Reserve as a family of 5 and stayed in the infinity pool villa for 3 nights. What an amazing experience!
The transfer from Singapore to Bawah was smooth and well organized. The pilot flew around the main island allowing us to see this remote paradise before landing. After landing, we were welcomed by the friendly staff members and taken to our villa.
A number of activities were already arrange for us. This was very helpful as booking activities for 5 people at short notice hasn’t been easy on holidays in other locations. We had a great time kayaking at sunrise, snorkeling, hiking to the different viewpoints, and relaxing. The daily spa treatment were a true luxury and the castaway picknick at coconut beach was one of the highlights of our stay.
The food was absolutely delicious! The chef and his team adjusted recipes to the various food intolerances of several members of our family. It is very rare to experience this and was highly appreciated.
The staff was always very helpful and authentic making us truly feeling like guests!

For the second time we stayed at this fantastic place. The reserve is easy to reach via short ferry from Singapore and a personalised waterplane via Batam. The location has for us much more to offer than Maldives or Seychelles. Especially if you are a nature lover and you like snorkelling or diving.
The environment is so authentic as it excels in untouched nature.
Again the service was top notch. Well hosted by the food and beverages manager David. The food was excellent.
Our special thanks are going to Jeron, the master sommelier, to Nadia from the restaurant service and to May from the Spa.
