The Hotel DuPont is definitely a cut above your typical hotel options. This is a classic hotel. They have a variety of rooms, sizes etc... on this trip I had one of their larger rooms with a separate sitting area from the sleeping area.
The du Pont seems to have deteriorated since our last visit 10 years ago . Still a beautiful building with very nice banquet rooms & fine dining in the Green Room . Rooms are poorly lit, and services annoying : room service very slow &...More

First, you obviously don't know if this "story" of yours is true, because you admit as much right up front. But you post it anyway. And you inappropriately post it as a TripAdvisor Question so that it gets out to all prior visitors to the Hotel as if you are looking for an answer to a travel question when instead all you are doing is disseminating an ill advised politically motivated opinion you hold.
The DuPont hotel is obviously not "greedy" as you claim, or they would have taken the reservation and the money to be paid by the "good Samaritan" instead of rejecting it. So might the Hotel's motive to be to protect its paying guests from people who can't in any way be vetted or controlled once they are in the hotel? But I doubt you were thinking that maybe the Hotel was concerned about the security of the guests who would be expecting the Hotel to look out for their interests.
I am sure there are many other more suitable locations in Wilmington for your Good Samaritan to have wisely spent her/his money spreading goodwill for the homeless there at a lower per person/per night cost, instead of focusing their philanthropy on the Hotel DuPont. So I suspect that the entire story may be "false news", or that the motives of your good Samaritan should be questioned, to see if he/she is just trying to create a story for someone like you to spread, in order to make an inappropriate political point.
But like a good left wing liberal idiot, you post a story that you can't verify as true, you suggest wrongdoing by well-respected and well-run Hotel in a way that makes no logical sense, you bring Donald Trump into your rant (inexplicably) and you do all this in violation of TripAdvisor's rules. Well done.
By the way, I have no connection to the Hotel DuPont, except to have stayed there once and written a review on it. It was a great place to stay.....
