#1 of 3 B&Bs / Inns in Malvaglia
Il Calicanto- Bed & Breakfast & Boutique"Il Calicanto" is a B&B&B.The Bed&Breakfast consists of six double bedrooms with private services. Each of them has been accurately and individually furnished. It is a “Boutique”, too: some of the paintings and objects enchanting every corner of the villa can be purchased. You can hence capture the fragrance of Calicanto and take it home. ((oppure))It is a “Boutique”, too: on the walls and in each corner of the villa you can find objects and paintings for exhibition and sale. The building is an old villa built in 1862, situated in the centre of Malvaglia (Chiesa area) and boasting its original stone roof. It has been brought back to life after a careful renovation work, with the due respect for the old building and maintaining its original shape as far as possible. The small garden is a very cosy corner, obtained by digging the earthwork. Walls of different sizes made of original stones have been restored from the same land. It is a charming green spot where you can relax, chat with friends, have breakfast, read, or … just do nothing."

We stayed at the B&B for a week in April and we were lucky to have the place to ourselves. The owner is a very genuine, lovely and welcoming lady, who showed us around. She prepares the amazing breakfast in the morning as well, fresh bread and pastry, cheese and meat, fresh juice and home made jams. She baked occasionally a cake as well. What a pleasure. The B&B is in very quiet area with adjacent garden where you can relax. Loved the design of the whole house, mixture of vintage and rustic. Loved it and would recommend to everybody!

My wife and I stayed at Il Calicanto on our way to Italy and it was a gem of a b&b. Our host, Nicoletta has renovated this 19th century villa very artistically, but keeping many of the original features and furnishing it with both flair and comfort in mind. The high point of our stay was the delicious breakfast with everything either homemade or locally sourced.

We stayed 2 nights at Il Calicanto in May. Our room was huge and very comfortable. The house is an old building that has been very thoughtfully refurbished and beautifully decorated by the owner, Nicoletta. It has real charm. There is a lovely lounge for guests with a TV. Breakfast was excellent with bircher muesli, fresh fruit, wonderful cheeses, beautiful bread, croissants, home-made jams and more. Nicoletta was friendly and helpful throughout. Il Calicanto is good value given the comfort of the rooms and quality of breakfast. It is a great base for exploring the lovely Val de Blenio with many old churches, villages and interesting walks. There are several places to eat in Malvaglia but we only dined at Notari which is a few minutes walk away and quite basic but with excellent food. There is a private parking space about 30 metres away from the house.
