Getting reservations and checking in to the Rod and Gun Club is not easy. We stood at the front desk and rang the bell. Took about 5 minutes for a lady to show up. Cash only, no credit cards (which we were aware of ahead of time). Service really slow. Guests do not stay in the historical part of the...

Who could find this place had my friends hadn't suggested it. And when they didn't describe it..they just Said 'go...' I did. Trust blind faith that whatever your age or interests , you will find it both interesting & serene. Ask for Debbie as your waitress ..she is genuine & kind. Food is terrific..lobster bisque savory. Didn't stay but rooms...

We stayed for one night, as a part of a southern road trip. This was our last stop, before renting a house in Fort Lauderdale for a week, and we were really looking forward to our stay. We found the hotel by google maps, and were charmed by their lack of wifi, email confirmations and lack of possibility for card...

The good: a storied history, comfortable beds, attractively updated bathrooms, large pool rimmed in stone, beautiful waterfront location, nice verandas with plenty of seating and helpful, friendly staff. The not so good: no shampoo, blow dryer, coffee maker or microwave in the cottages. The weird: 7 a.m. went to the main door looking for coffee but the door was locked....

We walked in this historical building with the intent of drinks and a light dinner. No one was in the bar, so we looked in the dining room and saw 2 waitresses sitting on their duffs yacking away. We decided to skip dinner and drinks. The building is super cool with a lot of articles and pictures on the walls....

I only had the opportunity to eat lunch although I wanted to stay. This is because there is no internet booking tool and when calling (twice) no-one picked up. A shame, as the wood paneled lodge is lovely and the huge and airy porch with river views is wonderful so would be great for a night or two to get...

This is an old hotel, and we stayed in one of the cottages, since I'm not even sure they rent rooms in the lodge itself. The place has a lot of character, and is a step back in time. Our cottage had been recently renovated, and the bed was comfy and clean. We visited over New Year's 2014, since we...

In July I made a reservation for a three night stay in November via a phone call. I gave the man who took my reservation our name and phone number. We had stayed at the Rod & Gun Club last year and wanted to return. I asked for a specific room, and he told me that would be no problem....

When I was young, I recall my dad telling me that the real wild areas of Florida, where you could still encounter adventures, was probably somewhere near the The Ten Thousand Islands. It's rustic down here. You can smell it in the air, and thats not a bad thing. The Rod and Gun club represents a step back into the...

We stopped here for dinner with our young kids after I stumbled along the place that same afternoon. Staff was friendly and when I asked if our kids could swim in the pool and then have dinner they agreed. The grouper was delicious and the staff was really friendly and attentive. The kids LOVED the hotel, the ambience, the interior...
