It was a short but very enjoyable stay. So close to the cruise port we could watch the ships departing in the distance. We had lunch at the Riptide Tiki Hut which was delicious and live music was excellent.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 4 nights, and a few other friends also booked separate rooms. The location is great since you can walk right onto the beach. The tiki bar is fun, and the live music was always good. Take note: you are paying over $200/night solely for location, not for the quality of the hotel or the amenities. Problems: 1. The floor in our room was not clean when we first stepped in. I took my shoes off right away and could feel sand under my feet. I think our room was cleaned once (?) throughout our whole stay, so over the few days we were there, of course we brought sand into the room. It's not pleasant walking around on a dirty bedroom and bathroom floor most of the time. Also, it's difficult getting your feet clean in a shower that hasn't been cleaned and has collected a lot of sand. Each night, I had to wipe my feet off with a towel that I kept next to the bed so that I didn't get sand in the sheets. 2. Our mattress was incredibly old (room #5). It was very stiff and we estimated that it had to have been at least 10 years old. I woke up most mornings with lower back pain. It really does not cost very much these days to buy a memory foam mattress off Amazon. That would have made a huge difference. 3. Our bathroom was...odd. we figured out that it's HC accessible, which is fine, but it was missing a toilet paper holder of any sort. There were no hooks anywhere in the bathroom, so you couldn't hang your towel or clothing up while you were in the shower. I don't think there was a fan either, and the window is permanently sealed shut, so you can't open it to get air or cut down on the condensation caused by the shower. There was a little window sill where I placed some of my things and I noticed a few additional "residents" sharing our bathroom with us (ants were always hanging out there). 5. There was no lighting near the closet/drawers area so we couldn't see what was in there and just had to rummage around in the dark for our clothing most of the time. (Lighting in the room was very bad). 6. There was a coffee maker but no coffee (and nowhere to get any in the lobby). 4. Not a huge deal, but I'm pretty sure the little couch in the room was broken. It looked kind of dirty so we wouldn't have sat on it anyway, most likely. In summary, this could be the place for you if you can't find anything for less than $200/night in that location. That's all folks!

This is a great little place on the beach. Everyone was friendly and the front desk staff were very helpful. We really enjoyed being able to sit at the tiki bar and listen to live music, and it was wonderful to have a full-sized refrigerator in the room. The only drawback was not having an elevator to get our heavy suitcases up to our room.

I should have looked a bit closer at Riptide before booking - tbh I assumed that if it isn’t cheap, it’s going to be great. This isn’t the case, as almost everything in Miami and the Keys in not cheap during dry season. Far and away the best reason to stay here is the location - stepping outside for take away breakfast on the beach (from the excellent bakery down the street) is a must. However, the hotel itself is fairly run down with tired fittings and a weak shower. Our room did have a sea view but it was set further back than others with a worn and well used BBQ area between the windows and the sea, meaning that when we were in, we mostly had a view of a large family having lunch and beers for most of the day. The room also had stairs going up to a door to the upstairs room - this was locked but seemed to let a fair amount of ambient noise from above in. The sound of people just walking around in the room above was very distracting. There is also a bar area at the other end of the building, with a space for a live singer to perform, which seemed to take place every night. This was an older guy singing through a fairly basic system and wasn’t to our tastes. The vibe seemed to be over 60s singer-songwriter / classic rock and I was pleased we couldn’t hear this from our room. In the tiny reception, there’s a postcard of Riptide hotel from what looks like 1947. It looks stunning and not a lot like the current building. If you want a noisy place on the beach with basic daily live music and are not bothered about style or any modern facilities, I’d say go ahead. Otherwise, best to go for one of the more modern buildings on the broadwalk.
