I wish I’d read these reviews before staying at this crazily overpriced hotel. There’s a reason it is ranked #53 out of 53 hotels in Key West on Tripadvisor. How on earth can Waldorf Astoria justify keeping its “super-luxury” brand on this place? The public grounds and pools and pretty. But the interior of the hotel is a mess. Not better than many cheap motels up and down the Florida coast. The $700-a-night (!!) rooms are small, with soiled, worn furnishings. The hallways were filled with dirty dishes and litter. The restaurant food is mediocre. And be warned: weddings are held here regularly at night, which means loud music until late at night.
We had a great time with a three night stay at the Casa Marina and in Key West. The nice weather helped a lot of course. The Casa Marina was a very nice place to stay. We found the place clean and comfortable. We were expecting it to be a little "stuffy" but it was not. The staff was friendly and helpful whenever we needed anything. We had the continental breakfast which was very good. The Casa Marina is an historic Hotel, 100 years old. The rooms are simple and functional, not fancy. You do get a robe. They do have large TVs but we didn't use them. Key West is an old historic city and very interesting. It is definitely a tourist city but not particularly clean. There are many good restaurants and shops to visit. There are many sources of transportation available. The weather is sunny, hot and humid. Several changes of clothes is a good idea. One should not expect lots of nice beaches. There is no natural sand, the sand has to be trucked in. The sea weeds are not broken up and collect on the beaches. This in not as attractive for swimming as many other beaches.…
Horrible hotel, especially for the ridiculous price. Dirty, musty, noisy and in need of serious renovation. Thought we had a great one bedroom next to the beach. Nope, that’s where they do the special events, in the sand. Had a wedding right outside until midnight. Asked for a different room. Non available. Left after one night because events where also scheduled the next 3 nights. We were told sorry they generate more revenue then you and go somewhere else. We did. Got a 2 bedroom in Marathon for half the price and it was gorgeous. Stay anywhere but here.
Let’s start with the positives… your in Key West. The water front view is very nice. The food was decent. Now for the not so good. I was actually going to take pictures but decided not to ruin my vacation sweeting all the details. Rooms small and awkward. You can not get out of the bathroom if the front door is open. Weird right. Everything in the rooms are dingy and warm. Both elevators did not work. One of our people were stuck in it for thirty minutes. The hotel in general needs a face lift. For the money we will skip this place there are a ton of nice places in the keys.
I never, ever leave reviews but people have to know the state of disrepair this “Waldorf Astoria” is in before spending a cent in there! We booked for a week and refused to stay even an hour at this den of an equity. The resort is decomposing before the staffs very eyes and they couldn’t give less attention to the filth they are working in every day and much less to the needs of their guests by the sound of their reviews. The conditions, cleanliness and service are abysmal at best, giving an old Motel a run for its money. How it’s still legally operating and charging as a 4 star hotel is absolutely mind bending. The Travelodge has higher standards! Avoid like the plague & save your money.
