Detailed Reviews
Back home from vacation and now have time to gather my thoughts about The Schooner Motel. When we first arrived the was a VERY LOUD and rough crowd, drinking, smoking and being extremely rowdy. They had taken over one room, the small patio and the pool area. My wife was very concerned about safety. Being very tired from our trip we entered our room, while expecting an "Old Florida" room it was not what I expected. First impression dirty stove, broken window blinds, burnt out bulb in bathroom, interesting puddle of water in the shower floor, sliding door to patio would not open, all said a little tired and worn. Oh and on the door there is a sign stating there will be no daily maid service and, I guess. if you need fresh bed linens ask and make the bed yourself. And can't forget the interesting sign above the sink "If you leave dirty dishes you will be charged a $30 fee". I had booked my stay through Expedia and upon arrival received a questionnaire from them wanting to know how things were going. Gave good review on two of the three questions. The bad review was based on the rowdy group of guest and room conditions. Now things get weird. The next afternoon as we returned to our room we were confronted by the owner / manager wanting to know why we gave him the bad review. While he didn't bother me he made my wife very uncomfortable. She said he seemed more concerned about the review than trying to make things right. He stated he was aware of the crowd but it was "Big Game Night" and that was OK. I think his goal it to become an extended stay motel rather the a vacation location. All said I can not recommend the property and will probably not stay again. Was overpriced for what we got

This little hotel is so amazing! The beach is their backyard with a small area of palm trees and willows to walk though. One of the best places to I have stayed at St Pete ever. Can’t express enough of the bad things ppl say when all those fancy places around have worse accommodations. This place is the place to stay, now if you’re a fancy butt and want to sleep at 7pm probably not the place for you. Because guess what ppl are unwinding and on vacation. People want to relax and celebrate so you might hear 1 or 2 couples partying hard (SO WHAT!!!) This is vacation get over it get ear plugs dammit. (Sorry I know sleep is good but that seems to be the only complaint from other reviews besides that) it’s awesome if it’s dirty or something just ask them to tidy up please and thank you that’s it. Other hotels WONT been there done that now that being said our room has never been dirty but stuff happens. Anyways it’s been awhile since we have stayed actually wanted to 2020 Valentines weekend but couldn’t since SOLD OUT the entire week but it is what it is. I’ll still be back next time I’ll make sure to make reservations. Georgia is my home but if in St Pete which will be soon I’ll be staying here!!!

Good, inexpensive place to stay, right on the beach. Get a room on the first floor if you have problems with stairs. Lots of kids but not a problem. Restaurants right across the street, many guests grilled on site. I liked it. I'm used to Hilton type hotel, this is not that. Great vibe of small mom and pop place.

First disapointment was the size of the rooms, the photos are very deceiving. The tiny room, kitchen / living room, was barely enough room for two people, absolutely no ventilation or no air conditioning in that room. No ventilation in the bathroom either. The room with two beds are full size beds. Not comfortable for more than one person. 3 days after being there we started seeing many roaches in our room. Not pimento bugs but actual roaches! The kitchen is not equipped with the things that you need there was no pot holder, you're provided with a few dishes and some pots there are no cookie sheets to put anything in the oven. The smoke alarm went off because like I said there is no ventilation whatsoever. There is severe mold growing in the bathroom on the walls and the ceiling. I would absolutely not recommend this hotel! Spend a few dollars more and go somewhere else it's not worth saving the few dollars!

I have no idea how this place gets any good reviews. Totally disgusting. We booked two nights during the week and spent over $430 which itself is typical for beach front property but not this place. Way over priced for what you endure. Only a couple good things about this place, the friendly staff and location. That’s it. The exterior is in terrible need of reconditioning. The pool had tons of debris and the hot tub had in inch of sand in the bottom. The do have a lot of chairs, rockers and nice lounges. Our room had a window AC unit through the wall that was very rusted and likely moldy. It cooled ok but room was constantly damp feeling. Bedroom had a standing AC unit that was vented out the window. This of course did not allow the shade to shut which was annoying since we were on the first floor. The bathroom was decent other the a questionable liquid beside the toilet and dead bugs in the shower. No ventilation at all which is fun in Florida. Shower hot/cold knob was backwards. About died of a heat stroke if you took a shower with any warm water. Beds were decently comfortable. Found some stains on extra sheets for the fold out couch. No blankets at all for this bed. Just a sheet. Holes in the walls along the floor. Lamps that were shorted out. Drawers that wouldn’t close/open without falling apart. Lots of broken blinds that looked like a smart pet tried to escape this place as we wanted to. Oh and the dog poo on the walkway outside added to the fun. We literally left the day before we were supposed too.

my family has been going there booking several rooms for four years. It was never fancy but always clean and maintained fairly well. This year we found the place unacceptable. the two ceiling fans in my room had an inch of dust on every blade, the bathroom smelled and had bugs, the oven was dirty, the towels had yellow stains on them. the bedroom has one of those indoor self standing ac units which took up space and blows right on the person on that side. one of the rooms had blood on the bedspread. the towels they provided were left outside the room, which is normal, but in the pouring rain in a puddle. lets just say all the rooms had issues. there was the same dirty socks and dirty plastic cups left outside my room for the full four days we were there. under CDC cv19 guidelines, not doing a good job imo. the "new ownership" needs to get on top of it especially if the rates are rising

We have been going with a group of friends to Schooner Hotel for about 20 years. We have stayed during good times and bad times related to the condition of the hotel. We will continue to make our yearly trip because we love the location, excellent beach access and beautiful sunsets. The hotel is older and needs updates, but we overlook these issues for the benefit of being with friends, and the beach environment. We always enjoy our visits, and the staff are friendly and helpful.
Yes, the price has increased but everywhere in Florida the prices have increased. In some areas have increased so much the locals are getting priced out, but that's another issue for another day.

The beds were awful, no barrier between the sheet and bed, we found multiple creepy crawlies in our sheets. Everything was broken. The toaster, the stove top, the paper towel holder. There was dog hair on my feet every time I put them down. There were dogs everywhere. Not leashed, barking at you as you walk by. I like dogs but why does every room here have small barking dogs? Everywhere is heavily smoked in. No fresh air here. Multiple very drunk individuals. Overall very trashy feel. The view is great. It’s directly on the beach. Within walking distance of restaurants and activities. Never once in four days did we get house keeping, towels, or anything. Very disappointed in the atmosphere, cleanliness, and property itself

Last of many visits to this place!! Huge roaches found dead not cleaned up, lots of ppl smoking weed , zero considerations for ppl who don’t like the smell. The stove was very dirty in our unit. They do not have designated smoking areas, most ppl around the pool play loud music on speakers. I’ve given this place several chances and will not return inconsiderate pet owners and smokers and I’m not talking just one time the whole weekend! If you don’t like smoke do not go to this hotel!! If I could give it a negative number I would. This used to be a small quaint hotel. I’m guessing the “new management” are not my kind of people.

If you’re okay with sleeping with roaches, it’s a great location at a cheap rate. I, however, will not be coming back. I gave this hotel 2 stars because the staff was really friendly and the location is amazing. But I would not recommend this hotel to my friends or family because of the roaches. I recommend spending a little extra on a nicer hotel if you’re planning on coming to the area.
