Just had a fantastic Sunday Lunch for my wife’s birthday at the Durham Ox. It’s our first time there since lockdown and the change of management, and they have somehow managed to improve on what was always a fantastic venue. The warm, cosy atmosphere is as it always was, and the staff, both new and familiar were most welcoming and accommodating. Our family of four all had different dishes over three courses, and everything was faultless. It could be argued that The Durham Ox is rather pricey for a back street in Ilkeston, but to my mind it’s an absolute gem, and the perfect location for a special occasion, and worth every penny.
I would like to say how kind the staff were on Friday night. When we told them we had an unexpected medical appointment and needed to be out as soon as possible, the staff made sure we were well looked after. Very kind. The delicious food was a bonus!!! We will be back!!!
Every meal was delicious, I stuck with boring prawn cocktail and it was so fresh tasting and well presented. Fillet steak for main with Stilton sauce and fries I cleared my plate. It was cooked to perfection! The atmosphere was fun and welcoming, staff really friendly and accommodating Went a few years ago and it wasn’t great, now under new management the food is back to scratch Would definitely book again Glad to have a high standard local restaurant again !
I have been a customer of the Durham Ox infrequently to be honest since the original refurbishment I booked a meal for tonight with the family for comfort reasons rather than menus due to a recent operation as I wasn’t feeling well enough for the booking I called 5 hours ahead to cancel - the man on the phone was very rude saying it was his busiest night of the year and slammed the phone down - obviously the chap needs to rethink his career options I certainly won’t be booking again ...
Stayed here for the weekend whilst visiting friends. What an amazing find. Definitely value for money. The room was very spacious, well looked after, clean and above expectations. Was good to see that they have a help yourself continent breakfast, which was convenient for us, as we were going out during the day and prefer this when we stay somewhere compared to a sit down full english. We also went to the restaurant on two occasions and we would thoroughly recommend. The sunday lunch is out of this world.
