Breathtaking! Stunning! Jaw-dropping! These are just some of the superlatives used by guests and visitors to describe the INN. Once referred to as 'perhaps the most palatial home in all of Florida', the stunning Major Sherman Conant house is now a magnificent Bed & Breakfast. Circa 1884, this 3 story, 6400 sq foot, 8 bedroom, 6.5 bath home is an extraordinary example of Queen Anne architecture by famed New England architect Rufus Sargent. With twelve foot ceilings, a grand staircase and a sweeping veranda, guests luxuriate in rooms steeped in American history. One block to the St. Johns River, 30 minutes to St. Augustine and 45 minutes to Gainesville. Rent one of our individual rooms on a nightly basis or rent the entire INN! Yes, that's right. On the nights that no other guests have reserved rooms, you may rent the entire INN. The INN sleeps 20 people. See our website for details. When renting the entire Inn, guests have full use of the kitchen and dining areas so "breakfast" is not served by the Inn keepers.

We rented to entire home for a family get together. There were 20 of us. What a wonderful experience.
I couldn’t have found a more PERFECT place.
Tate is such an amazing host and shared the history of the home with us.
Each room is unique and so well decorated. Super clean and so comfortable.
We only stayed one night. I wish we could have enjoyed a little longer.
I can’t say enough how WONDERFUL this place is.
Thank you Tate for sharing your home.
Our stay was MAGICAL!!!

We stayed at this Inn because of it's location relative to the State bicycle trails nearby, it's closeness to Ravine Gardens and the Palatka Golf Course. The accommodations were perfect, breakfast in the morning was just right, and the Owner and staff were most kind and helpful with whatever we needed. The Inn is a piece of history all in itself. We'll be back!

I decided to surprise my husband with a few days away for his birthday. I had promised him dinner on the St. Johns River and chose the Grand Gables Inn Bed & Breakfast for our lodging. What a good decision that turned out to be!
Our host, Tate, was very informative and accommodating. Built in the 1880's, Grand Gables Inn is spacious with rocking chairs on a relaxing wraparound porch and a parlor with 12 foot ceilings. Coffee makings were available in our room and a hot breakfast was served at our choice of times each morning. After breakfast Tate gave a museum quality tour of the old house from the touret on top to the tunnel in the basement. The St. Johns River is within sight just a block away.

We recently the whole house for family when my daughter was getting married. What an incredible home and wonderful hosts!!! The owner was very accommodating. He gave us a tour of the home and the incredible stories that went with it. We were allowed full access to the kitchen and we were also allowed to bring our family dogs. That was a HUGE Blessing! Could not have had a more pleasant time in the old parlor with the family!

Our group of 10 kayakers rented out the entire B&B for the week and absolutely loved the place. There was lots of room for everyone to spread out, private restrooms, huge ceilings, perfectly decorated, and comfortable. The B&B is centrally located in the historic district so you can walk everywhere and anywhere. It is also located to some of Florida's premier kayaking locations. We paddled Deep Creek, The Ocklawaha River, Silver Springs, Juniper Springs, and Haw Creek.

What a fantastic experience!! The house, rooms and decor are beautiful, picturesque and comfortable. The owner gave us the grand tour, and the history behind this elegant home is fascinating, complete with secret rooms and hidden tunnels built by the original owner in the 1880’s. Breakfast was delicious, and our hostess was gracious, genuinely friendly and accommodating. Highly recommend the Grand Gables Inn.

Life as it was in the 1800's. Rich and glamorous construction such as if it were done today would be worth more than most would be willing to invest. Way better than a hotel stay and great breakfast in the morning. May I also add, we brought our own dinner having full use of the kitchen and dining area. Awesome experience and we didn't even get to visit with any ghosts ;-) of bygone days. I think they all had Covid.

+1
The Grand Gables Inn is the perfect place to stay in Palatka! Tate and Jessie, the owners, make you feel right at home. In addition to beautifully decorated suites and a fantastic breakfast, I truly enjoyed learning more about the history of the Major Sherman Conant House on a tour with Tate. Plus, the Grand Gables Inn is a quick walk (and even quicker drive) to downtown Palatka and the beautiful Saint John's River. Highly recommend a stay!

Awful experience. Dirty rooms, spider webs, roaches, flimsy old cot was offered for our children to sleep on, unapologetic staff, arrogant. Very disappointed. Had hard beds. The owners live in the home and we felt like we were in their space.
