Thala Beach combines low key luxury with a beautiful natural setting. Each room is a spacious separate bungalow with a view of the rainforest or the Coral Sea. The main lodge building is open to the elements and bosts handsome bar, restaurant and lounge areas. The restaurant is first class, specializing in high-end presentations of local ingredients. (Our only criticism...

We stayed 2 nights here as part of an organised tour. It is in a unique location, nestled away amongst the trees and wildlife. The property is about 15 mins from Port Douglas and there are shuttle buses available. There are beaches which you can walk to which we didn't explore although there are jellyfish from Dec to April so...

We spent 3 nights at Thala and can honestly say that it was one of the finest overall experiences we've had. We travel a lot and are fussy when it comes to accommodation choice. We were pleased we chose Thala - the service was excellent with friendly and welcoming staff, the bungalow was very comfortable with a rustic flavour, the...

My visit to Thala was a special surprise breakfast. The view and the dining room is really good. We have many places in Cairns with views like this. The breakfast was underwhelming, my poached eggs were still swimming in water. Didn't realize toast wouldn't be served and so time spent cooking it my breakfast was cold. The ladies room was...

My wife and I visited Feb 2017 which is off season and found ourselves upgraded to the eucalyptus apartment from the forest booking. Pleasant surprise. No hustle and bustle at this time of year. Quite humid but the room had quiet airconditioning and was immaculate. Thala is built on a short peninsular with the main reception/lounges etc on top of...

The perfect place to escape the frantic pace of modern living. The hotel is a stunning open building reminiscent of Thai or African teak structures. Being on a headland the double aspect is maximised by the restaurant looking out to one side - coast, sea and sky and the bar seating area set on the other with a different vista...

We stayed here for our wedding anniversary and it hard to know where to begin - Thala Beach was nothing short of magical. The reception staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, and we felt 5 star the moment we stepped into the reserve. Stand outs include: breath taking views from both our room, and the restaurant. Also the lovely unique...

We came here for a child free break and were not disappointed. The setting is amazing and each bungalow feels secluded and private. The staff were exceptional from pre-arrival through to departure and helped us with some very unusual requests. Particular mention to Claire at reception and Craig behind the bar. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Thala Beach Nature Reserve is a family owned 58 hectare nature and wildlife reserve 15 minutes south of Port Douglas. Get there from Cairns via a spectacular 45 minute drive along Captain Cook Highway. Elevated on stilts, 83 eco designed timber bungalows are discretely concealed within the forest canopy, blending in with the natural environment and feature ocean, mountain or forest views. Panoramic views are enjoyed from open-sided Osprey's Restaurant across the forest canopy and beyond to the Coral Sea. Guests and visitors dine amongst birds in the surrounding treetops, whilst enjoying modern Australian cuisine with friendly and attentive service. Granite boulders, waterfalls and overhanging trees create natural swimming pools blending discretely within the environment. Paths wind through rainforests and woodlands, connecting with secluded coves and beaches, passing through habitats for endemic birds, wildlife and flora. Guests enjoy complimentary guided nature tours by onsite rangers including tree planting, stargazing at an outdoor observatory, beach discovery, wildlife walks and bird-watching tours.
