Came to see my son's concert with my sister. Paul and Teresa were very informative and helpful. We had time to kill during his classes the next day, and they pointed us to some perfect spots. We stayed in the Carbondale room. The bed was firm and comfortable, breakfast was tasty. Great conversation. You can tell much thought was put...

Visiting Carbondale for the first time and I stayed at The Train Inn for two nights. We had a wonderful time with Paul and Theresa, as they were outstanding in their personal service, knowledge of the area (even leading us on a new way back to Cape Girardeau), and welcoming home and gardens. We will be back, highly recommend this...

Location is right next to train station but NOT noisey. Parking is a breeze. Inn is homey & well-kept. The room-choices are varied. Easy access if walking is an issue. It's a house/inn with front steps to the porch. We had a king room on first floor. They grow their own spices which makes the egg-frittata very tasty(not spicey-hot). Breakfast is...

Stayed here for a night as I passed through town on a tour of the area. Paul and this property are both fantastic. It's meticulously clean, very tastefully decorated, and the bed & bedding (I stayed in the New Orleans room) was perfect. If you're headed toward downtown Carbondale at night during your stay, its a short brisk walk. And...

We took a mini-vacation to Southern Illinois wine country and stayed at the Train Inn from April 14 to 17. The Train Inn was perfect for our get-away. It's on a quiet street on the edge of campus. The Carbondale Room at the inn is a large upstairs suite, very private and quiet, with a king bed just as comfortable...

This is probably the best place to stay in all of Southern Illinois. The Train Inn is located within walking distance to Downtown Carbondale, SIU Campus, Amtrak Train Station as well as the SIU Health and Recreation Center, which are right across the street. If you intend to visit SIU there is no alternative to the Train Inn! Besides location,...

Yesterday I was in a restaurant and I was going to order quiche, and then I thought to myself, " it won't be as good as Paul's was". Yes, The Train Inn has ruined me for quiche for the rest of my life! The breakfast was wonderful. The quiche was hot from the oven, not a microwaved piece from the...

I'm hesitant to write how great this place was because some one is bound to stay there on some day I might want to! It was simply outstanding. The accommodations were great. The food spectacular and the hosts the best ever. If you find you need to be in Southern Illinois for any reason stay at the Train Inn. You'll...

We were looking for a unique place to stay while we explored Shawnee National Forest for the first time. The Train Inn is a cozy treasure, like a little oasis in the desert. Arriving on a hot afternoon, we approached the inn through a lovely, shaded and landscaped yard with a picturesque garden part of the ambience. The inviting shaded...

A really lovely B&B, with tasteful furnishings and the beautiful hardwoods of an historic old house gorgeously renovated with exquisite taste by the owners. The downstairs rooms are small (my beautiful room was almost filled by the bed) but very comfortable and immaculately clean. Very comfortable bed -- and I'm picky about that -- and new modern bathroom facilities (shower...

“The Carbondale room is best for romantic couples. Very private and quite.”

“New Orleans room is more spacious than the other downstairs rooms but on the front of the house and bit more exposed, so I'd suggest one of the other downstairs rooms if you can afford it. But all rooms are lovely and the whole house is quiet. The upstairs room has quite a steep staircase for guests who are a bit mobility-challenged. Families won't find floor space for a cot bed so you'll need two rooms. Ideal for singles and couples.”
