We stopped by for a bite on the way home after a rustic camping experience. I was hankering a lobster roll and my husband ordered a fish chowder. What arrived at our table was "Real Food! None of that, drowning in mayo, gravy, butter or ketchup that covers up what ever you are eating. Delicious lobster chunks on a crunchy bed of shredded lettuce in a traditional roll, lightly grilled with real butter, not margarine topped with a dollop of mayo. Perfect! My husband, being from the Boston area, knows Good Chowder. And that it was! A generous portion brimming with fresh fish and seasoned perfectly in the traditional milk broth. We are retired Inn Keepers there for certainly know about dinning. This was an experience we would repeat. The atmosphere was quaint & charming. The staff and owner authentic "Deer Island"…
We stopped in for a bite at the 45th parallel restaurant. The ladies working were very friendly. I had a lobster poutine (yummy!) And a Caesar. Prices were reasonable and we received really personal service. It is also dog friendly, and we had our pup out on the deck with us. Definitely check it out if you're in the area!
My wife's friend is visiting from Thunder Bay ON. We were day tripping from St. John and stumbled across the 45th Parallel Restaurant along our route to Campabello Island. What a find! By far the best scallops any of us have had anywhere. The scallops were fresh, cooked in a very light battery and literally melted in your mouth. We'll definitely be back.
We stopped here to use the bathroom on our way through Deer Island but found a sign on the door saying "Bathrooms for Customer Use Only!" So they must have a lot of people stopping to use the bathroom. So we sat down and ordered a piece of homemade cherry pie and a piece of apple pie. The pie was ok. Since I had ordered the pie, I figured I had every right to use the bathroom finally! So I went in the bathroom and latched the door behind me. Halfway through my business, someone tried to open the door and refused to give up when they found it locked. They must have tried for 20 seconds to pry open the door. Eventually they gave up! It was harrowing. If you are passing through the islands of New Brunswick, be sure to take care of business before you get here!
Stopped in after our whale watching and had a great conversation along with our lunch with the owner. Very interested in what we had to say. Really excellent fresh fish. And good coleslaw. Very generous servings.
We had a great stay food was good rooms clean and cozy. Owners were very nice we sat on deck and enjoyed great meal with a few pops. Sat out and watched beautiful sunset. Would recommend to anyone that wants a place inexpensive but clean
We missed the last Ferry to Campobello and needed a place for the night. Called from the Ferry dock and they had rooms and a restaurant. You go to the restaurant to check in. We needed two rooms with two beds. No problem. There are 10 Units in this 1950-60's type place. Above ground pool and outside fireplace. All but one room occupied.$65 Canadian. Not fancy but clean. Better than most Motel 6s. Never checked in or out. Never went to a motel where they did not want to know who we were.
I hate to write this review because I love Deer Island. Previous trips there I stayed in another place, now closed down. So, I booked the 45th Parallel Motel and Restaurant - not the same experience. While air conditioning and complimentary breakfast are still advertised, we could find neither. Free WiFi is also advertized - nope, little to no coverage. The showers are like more like a London fog; if it wasn't for gravity there be no pressure at all, but the endless wait for hot water does build character. The food is average pub fare - nothing to write home about. On the up side, the service was very friendly and the room, while old and outdated, was mostly clean - except for the big stain on my bed sheets and the broken window screens. Yikes! I really want Deer Island to thrive - but things seem to be declining - I won't be rushing back anytime soon. Too bad, it's a unique and friendly place, it used to be well worth a visit.…
Booked this place a month in advance after checking out the reviews and thought it would be worth a try - wrong. We drove around the island after the ferry ride to see what was there and we witnessed the Tidal Bore which was very interesting as was seeing the original salmon farm and the new salmon farms. Spoke with a couple of the workers from the new salmon farm and it was very interesting as well. We decided to go back to check into the Motel and have a bite for lunch. The woman looked a little sheepish and said we couldn't stay there because she had just had the place fumigated and didn't think it was wise to have us stay and that she would have let us know but she lost our telephone number. We still needed to eat so we asked if the restaurant part was open she said yes but she only had fish and chips, lasagne and chicken fingers. Beggars can't be choosers so we had fish and chips and lived through the experience and drove as quickly as we could to get to the ferry to get off this island and never to return.…
We made reservations from the states for a room with 2 double beds for 2 nights Oct 11th-12th 2015. The owner confirmed those dates and asked us if we had plans for the for the 11th as it was their Thanksgiving and they would be honored for us to join them for dinner. We accepted and bragged to everyone how great we thought this was. Flash forward... We arrive and the owner is busy with the dinner and shows us to the only clean room she has; it only has one bed. I am handicapped and this would not work so she suggested that we sit down and eat and she'd have someone clean a room for us while we ate. It was buffet style and really not much to our liking but we thought it would be rude not to at eat a small plate and ended up taking a few spoons of a couple of items. When we finished she assured us that our room with 2 beds was ready. She then said it would be $65 per night including tax; that the restaurant would not be open until next summer (mind you this is the only restaurant on the Island and there are no grocery stores and to top it all off breakfast was to be included in our rate) And we also owed $45 for our dinner. I was shocked. If we hadn't driven so far already; plus having to take a ferry back we would have left right then but we did stay that night. I wish we hadn't.…
