I was first time in the resort for a health coach retreat. The resort thou a little further away from the hassle and buzzle of Bali (which is good for a retreat).

On arrival to the resort (I arranged my own transport to the resort), I was greeted with smiles from the bellboy to the reception. Everyone was just friendly. The reception was design functionally, no big fanfare or big lobby. Checking in was easy and receptionist was very clear in terms of explaining the facilities and their location in the resort and i was guided to my room pretty soon.

After settling down in my room, which was spacious thou the layout of the bathroom are a little confusing. The shower and the basin/ wc are separated. In order to get to each other you have to walk back into the room and enter into via another entrance. Anyway, i went around to explore the resort, it was only then I realised this is a big property!

From the hotel rooms, to the beach club, spas, studios, gym, health hub, beach front yoga sala, swimming pools it was very well designed, located and connected to each other. I like the fact that they have 2 pools where one only adults are allows and no children below 12. It was truly serene if you want to have a quiet break/swim.

Food in the resort was exceptionally good thou a little bit pricey. As it is a health resort for wellness and fitness retreats, their menu selections was good and well thought for. They even have an entire menu specifically for vegans.

One of the thing about the resort that I feel I must share is their gym. Very well equipped, from the traditional cardio and segmented weight machines, they have other functional tools like TRX, airbike, Concept 2 rowers, med balls, slam balls, barbells and plates, boxing bag, ski machine, and etc. one of the best if not the best equipped resort gym I ever come across. they also have a outdoor workout area that is setup like a crossfit box!

The studio that we used for the next 6 days was also very comfortable, spacious and functional. Just getting to the toilet was alittle bit of a hassle.

I wished i can share the videos I took of the resort in here but they only allow pictures.

Overall, I had a great 6 days of stay in the resort. Should I ever want to organise a health, fitness, wellness retreat, I would definitely come here.

In love with Hotel Komune since I first discovered it in 2018. Coming back this time has been equally as amazing - its beautiful seemingly remote location on lush volcanic beach (versus more touristic Canggu for instance) is stunning, as well as the beach yoga shala, the fully equipped gym and the meals both at the Health Hub and the Beach Club. Plenty of plant-based meals are available that are so delicious you won't even immediately realize how nutritious they also are. :) Everyone working at Hotel Komune is incredibly kind and caring and there is a sense of being at "home" even while traveling. This time I co-hosted a wellness retreat at Hotel Komune and all of our guests were more than satisfied with the incredible experience, location, meals and the calm zen atmosphere. It's a great place for surfing as well, and even just to watch night surfing from the beach. This is a place you'll be glad you stayed. :)

We stayed at the Komune Resort for two days and two nights. It was a fantastic stay and in truth we should have stayed for much longer – we completely underestimated how good the hotel was going to be. Our room had a private pool that overlooked the beach and the sea (and sunrise as the resort is on the East of Bali). The food menu was incredibly varied and the two restaurants onsite had the best (and tastiest) plant based and vegetarian menu I have ever seen. There was morning fitness and yoga classes, extensive play areas for kids, two big pool areas (one private one for adults) and that isn’t to mention the incredible surf which is directly outside the hotel. The waves are not quite beginner friendly but we sat there entranced watching surfers ride some incredible waves. The atmosphere around the resort was friendly and intimate, suiting both couple and families. The owners have prided themselves on creating a destination resort for wellness and family, one which price tag is incredibly good value – half the price of similar hotels in Ubud or Seminyak and with more to offer. Sitting by the pool, after walking along the idyllic and raw black sand beaches, we simply asked ourselves the important questions, “would we come back here again”. Without hesitation we would and we would stay for longer and even invite more friends and family to join us there.

Me and my husband stay at Komune (2nights) celebrating our baby-moon (yes i’m 32weeks pregnant). Our conclusion is the staff aren’t helpful. They got wrong every requirement (asked for bath math got towel instead, asked for 2 bowls got 1 only), they only make your bed literally, they didn’t refill the amenities, clean the room, or clean the trash can. Asked them to deliver my stuff from frontdesk to the restaurant (with tips upfront) the staff still say no but accepted the tips :)
Will definitely not coming back.

This was my third time staying at Komune and it was not as good as the first two times in 2015 and 2016. Thr resort has expanded so it feels much busier and a lot noisier. A really large proportion of the staff were in training (wearing "trainee" tshirts) so the service was a bit limited at times (e.g. wrong orders at the beach restaurant, water fountain frequently empty).

I was annoyed by the restrictions to access rideshare transport such as Grab. Althoigh the hotel allows drop off for rideshares they do not permit pick up so we needed to walk to the main road to be picked up (not possible with a lot of luggage). You are then forced to use the tour operator at reception charging at least double the price of rideshares.

The room is small and not a lot of space for luggage The single beds are very narrow. The open bathroom is a nice design but quickly became annoying when sharing with friends. There are not enough hooks or shelves in thr shower area which makes it difficult to change. The toilet doesn't flush very well. Tlno hand towels are provided just small face flannels which you are expected to use as a hand towel.

The noise from the adjoining rooms came through quite clearly and there is a lot of noise outaide the rooms in the morning with housekeeping, garderners and kids. The sliding door to the room was really stiff and difficult to open and close.

There are not enough power points in the room. The TV channels are limited. The sheets on my bed the first night were stained. The wifi password arrangement didn't work and we had to try multiple times eith reception to get access.

I enjoyed the yoga class offered and the adult only pool and health hub. The pool at the beach club was very busy by 11am most days (and quite exposed to the sun) so it was nice to retreat to a quieter area.

The food options are nice and a good range although more expensive than places outside the hotel. A juice costs about the same as you would pay Australia. The western food is fine but the local food not so great. The rendang was quite tasteless. Therr are better places for local food outside the resort.

It was very hard to get service at the beach club. We had to chase down staff to take an order or get a menu so better to order well in advance of getting hungry as food generally took aroubd 40 min to arrive. The beach restaurant service wasn't much better either.

The spa was still good but almost completely booked out so book as soon as possible if you want a treatment. We didn't find any alternative spas within walking distance of the resort.

The restaurants are able to split bills and give you separate final bills at the end of the stay but each guest needs to sign a separate bill.

Response from Tony Cannon, Owner at Hotel Komune and Beach Club Bali
Responded 7 Jan 2024
Hi Tall Taff, Thankyou for staying with us at Hotel Komune and we appreciate your detailed review which has some great suggestions for us to implement. As a result of your comments we have placed orders to add an extra hook to the shower area, add shelves in the room to free up more storage space for bags and add extra hand towels to the bathrooms for guests. We have also added additional staff to pool area in peak times to ensure speed and accuracy of service is maintained and to ensure the free water fountain is topped up. You are correct our resort is larger than your last stay in 2015 as we have added 38 Beachfront pool suites plus our village green and jungle shalas to the resort. We do offer a secluded adults only health hub pool areafor guests seeking an alternative to our beach club. Rideshare services at Hotel Komune - Komune has no financial interest in the provision of transport for our guests. Keramas Village provide this service to the Hotel Komune and our guests and the Village Drivers retain 100% of the proceeds which goes to support members of the local village. The Keramas Village also owns and controls the 150 metres of road from the main highway to our resort entry. The Keramas Village allow Uber type rideshare services to drop off guests at our resort reception but do not allow guests to order a Uber type service to pick them up at the resort reception. Guests may still order a rideshare service and a pick up from the main highway. The village provides 20 drivers who sit on call all day at the resort entry to service only our Komune guests. As a result of having this service the cost is higher than rideshare services which, like Australia and USA barely pay their drivers a living wage. The cost for a 4-6 person quality van provided by Keramas Village drivers to the airport is $35 US. The equivalent cost to use a Uber service can be between $20 to $40 USD entirely dependent on workload and traffic conditions. Please note we are 20 minutes from Sanur and don't have an abundance of drivers randomly waiting around so having a reliable, dedicated and professional service at Hotel Komune 24/7 that also supports our local village is in our opinion the best transport option for our guests. Thankyou once again for your valuable feedback as comments like your allow us to continually improve our service and product. Kind Regards Tony Cannon (Owner)

My wife and I have stayed here six times and it is always such an enjoyable and relaxing break. We again stayed in beachfront pool villa and that view of the surf break from bed is something wonderful. Komune really has something for everyone, the surfers, oldies and the yogies and they do it all so very well. It was my birthday and the hotel kindly gave me a birthday cake and covered our bed with a birthday message in flowers, what a place! All the staff are so helpful, the food is great and I'd recommend Komune to anyone who's looking to get away from the busier parts of Bali. Thanks to the managers and staff for another great holiday.

Despite paying 7 months out and then cancelling 5 months out I have been refused a refund. I was required to pay in fill nearly $1800 Australian for 4 nights with the promise if it was cancelled before 30 days I would get a full refund. I have stayed here before and am bitterly disappointed at the treatment and lack of integrity.

I was really amazed at the kindness that the staff exuded and the willingness to help and keep things in order.

I made friends with a compétent worker called Gio who’s job was to clean and stock up the rooms. He was absolutely wonderful, in spite of his minimal English, he made the effort to understand me, direct me and every time I returned to my room it was remarkable and ready for use. Thanks for making the experience great Gio and your warmth.Hope this review gets you a pay rise or at the least some recognition for your hard work.

Stayed at the beach front pool suite and it was awesome. Surf was pumping, food was great and the staff were truely amazing. I love this place! Only downside was when we wanted to extend our stay they quoted us 66% above the going rate on Wotif. We are now at Sanur instead. Guys you need to lift your game because we know of at least 15 people who were leaving the next day and the resort was already quiet. Happy to pay the going rate but the quote was disappointing. We will be back though.

We absolutely LOVE Komune! We recently stayed in connecting beachfront suites (with our kids) for my husbands 40th birthday and it was the best 5 days of our month long trip! Our room with pool access & dreamy ocean views was luxurious, the main pool is beautiful, the food is delicious, the day spa is amazing and the service is always great! Agus set up a perfect birthday dinner setting at our request which we absolutely loved and we had excellent service to go with it all evening. My husbands birthday was fantastic!
A few minor things that the resort could improve overall:
Kids menu (we often asked for things not on the menu which they were happy to do).
Checkout time on Agoda says 12 but it’s actually 11am, although they let us stay until 12.
For the price of the beachfront suites I think that breakfast should always be included (even just basic toast & coffee).
Kids club needs a good indoor area. The idea of free range outdoors is nice but it’s way too hot for the kids to hang around. Staff were great!
Overall this is one of our favourite resorts in Bali and we will return again!!! My husband loved checking the ocean from our room every morning before he went surfing too. Thank you for the best stay Komune!

Is a private pool included with the 2 bedroom villas? Thank you.
Answer from Candice Robinson

Yes, the two bedroom villa actually has two private pools. One very small and shallow / child pool and a separate very descent sized adult pool. There are also lots of pool chairs around it to relax on! The villas are actually all interconnecting. The two bedroom villa connects to the 1 bedroom villa via a large lockable sliding gate. My family and I booked as a three bedroom villa so the sliding gate was unlocked the whole time. The 1 bedroom villa also has its own pool as well.
