This is a very late review as we actually stayed at the Alassari Plantation during the first week of our honeymoon in July 2019 - this was an unforgettable experience - the complete immersion in the beautiful Balinese nature and the utter serenity of this hotel was a beautiful start to our married life - Craig and Valerie were fantastic hosts and the staff were all so caring and friendly - we will be back, thank you again! I am writing this review now as we often talk about how much we enjoyed the Alassari Plantation and I realised I had never left a review!

We have been to Bali several times, and the Alassari Plantation is the best stay ever. The staff were so good, and could not have done enough for us. The villas were great, with a good bathroom and shower. The menu was a bit short, but everything was made fresh for each person. We had 3 massages and were very good, such a nice lady. It is slightly out of the way, but once there there were things to do, a jungle walk was fascinating. We had a driver for a day and we saw loads of things we might have missed. Do go you won’t be disappointed!

Yes, the road to get there is full of chuckholes/Indiana Jones style but it’s worth it. We’ve always wanted to stay in a tree house and “mission accomplished” Lots of luxury with friendly hosts and great staff. Good food and plenty of it delivered to your tree house or in the Resturant. Delightful pool. Adventurous hikes. Luxurious adventure in nature /

Without any doubt the best place we found in Bali. Amazing staff, we loved Valerie and Greg, the owners. Food is incredible, swimming pool always perfect and the rooms where clean and with all commodities. The town where is located is up in the mountain but is easy to arrive by car, and they offered us all kind of activities to do. We want to thank all the staff for making our stay so great. We would really recommend Alasari Plantation for everyone who love peace and quietness, also like nature and beautiful views. Special thanks to Valerie and Greg for everything. Carla and Marc

Val and Craig have done a great job of creating a wonderful intimate complex of Villas and to live as much as possible off the land. It is totally relaxed and all the staff are enchanting. The restaurant produces some excellent local dishes from their own ingredients as well as some staple international options for those with less adventurous tastes. Everything my family tried was excellent. There is a small pool and gym as well as some well quoted features on the extensive walks around the plantation. The area is truly beautiful and wild.

Val and the wonderful staff of Alassari Plantation went above and beyond expectations, making our very special celebration weekend (with 30 guests) an eventful and memorable one. Impeccable hosting and service in absolute paradise. Many touring and activities on offer, but most enjoyed the serenity, scenery and The SPA! Truely an essential addition to any visit to Bali, the journey being an addition to the Alassari charm. Heartfelt thanks to the Alassari family.

We stayed at Alassari Plantation for three nights and would always come back again. This place is truly magical and the jungle like 9 hectar property with their unique swing bridge alone is worth a visit. The staff was lovely and satisfied all our exacting needs. The rooms are spacious and luxurious and allow to experience balinese nature and tradition whilst enjoying the convenience of western quality. If you go there make sure to try their homemade Jamu, it’s delicious! We‘ll be back soon, Nila & Tina

We went there after another hotel let us down at the last minute and we are so pleased we did. It is quite a drive from the airport but when you get there it is worth it. There are just a few Balinese villas set in the middle of the rainforest. It is amazing. It was lovely to sit on the veranda surrounded by the vegetation and just listen to all the jungle sounds around you. There are also loads of paths around the hotel to walk. The villas are well equipped and beautifully decorated in the Balinese style. They are not state of the art but in a way better for being in keeping with the place. By the way insects are part of the experience and it seems silly to moan about them bearing in mind where you are. Only negative point was that we shared a two bedroom/two bathroom villa with our friends and did struggle to get enough hot water for our showers. It is in the middle of nowhere so you will end up eating there in the evening but the food is really good and we enjoyed every meal and the breakfasts were enormous. We had three nights there and that is probably enough unless you have arranged a lot of trips and activities in the area. Everywhere takes a while to get to but it is in a part of Bali for some good sightseeing. This is an amazing place which I would highly recommend it but it will not suit everyone. It reminded me of how Bali was back in the 80s. We moved onto Ubud after this hotel and I could not believe how developed it had become. This is still a bit of the real Bali. Do go.

Thank you very much for your wonderful review. We are so happy you enjoyed your experience at Alassari Plantation. Yes your description is so true. Our Village is like how Bali used to be in the 80's Still in the nature in the jungle just 10 minutes walk from the national park. We are also pleased you enjoyed our food. I am sorry we did have a problem with the hot water in Villa Empat and now have changed to electric and a larger tank. Best wishes. Valarie Glenister.

This is a difficult one to review, and I actually waited until a year later to write a proper feedback. We stayed at Alassari for three nights during a multi-months trip through South East Asia and I wanted to give memories enough time to sink in. First, the location is absolutely beautiful and the gardens (one can call it a jungle) are very well kept. All rooms are stunning - we loved the comfortable furniture on the balcony and the gorgeous carving details. The room can become a bit humid, which is expected in a wooden bungalow high up the mountains. Alassari organized transportation to the hotel at a reasonable rate and we decided to hire a driver for a full day to explore the island, which is highly recommended. Unfortunately I don't remember the driver's name, but he was such a great source of information, very professional and friendly. Alassari could be really paradise, but unfortunately there were some negatives that overall led to a mixed experience. The staff serving food seemed not to be interested in engaging with guests. Communication was not the problem - I am aware this is a local hotel and I do not expect staff to speak immaculate English - we missed genuine interest and smiles. In one situation we had ordered a second (!) bottle of 0.33 L beer each and the waiter noticed that "we drink a lot". This may be quirky at a street food place, but not at a hotel at this category that charges 5 star prices. The food overall was disappointing for the price we paid. It was fresh and well presented, but a bit bland. We had much better food during our trip to Bali. We met Valerie only the last morning just before we left. I did not complain to her because there is nothing specific to complain about (and I didn't want to throw the waiter under the bus for one inappropriate comment that was probably meant funny). And in fact, there would be little to really complain about if Alassari would not advertise to be in the "luxury" category and charge 5 star rates accordingly. Alassari is a stunning place, the rooms are immaculate, but we felt more welcome, had better service and more tasteful food in many other locations that charged only a fraction of the price.

Thank you for taking the time to write us such a detailed review. We are so pleased you enjoyed and appreciated our beautiful gardens and fully carved Villa's. Also our driver who picked you up and also took you on a day tour. I am very sorry you found our staff not as friendly as you would have liked. This is the very first time I have heard that the staff were not friendly. If you look at our reviews you will see the staff so often get a mention of being very friendly. I apologise for the member of our staff who made a remark you drink a lot. This is totally unacceptable and I will be talking to the staff about this occasion. Usually our food also gets a good review. I will also look at this. I know we have reduced the spice and chilli as some guests are unable to eat spicy food. We do give chilli and other spices on the side so our guests can make their dish as spicy as they wish. I will address these details with the staff. Best wishes. Valarie Glenister.
