I visited with a group of friends after hearing about this place from a colleague.I love warmth, beaches and simplicity and this spot fitted the bill on all accounts. The clarity of the sea was amazing and certainly some of the best snorkelling I have had easy access to. Although very windy on one side at the beginning of our...

We stayed two nights & thoroughly enjoyed it. Great location. Cabins are comfy & right on the beach. You go to sleep listening to the waves. Service is friendly. The food is delicious. Can not wait to return.

We're a family of four from the US and we just returned from an amazing stay at Matafonua. We absolutely loved it! We spent 9 days there and our kids (13 & 15) said that we should just go to Matafonua every year. They had a great time with Darren and Nina's kids and felt like they were given a...

Just had a week at the Matafuna Lodge about a 45 min flight from the Tongan mainland. We arrived after a 15 minute transfer to be greeted by Darren and Nina owners and the perfect hosts. The lodge is situated at the end of a sand spit with a huge coral lagoon on one side and a picture perfect sandy...

The Matafonua Lodge is a beautiful place to relax, wind down from stress at work and enjoy the wonderful underwater world. The moment you arrive at the lodge you step into a different world. The hosts Nina and Darren make you feel welcome immediately and throughout your stay make sure that everything perfect. The fales are simple (i.e. no bathroom)...

We loved our 12 days at Matafonua and are already plotting our return. The location is spectacular. Snorkeling and diving in beautiful, clear, warm, turquoise waters of Tonga was amazing. The fales are simple with comfy beds and necessary mosquito nets (bring repellent). The food was delicious and they are very thoughtful about catering for different diets. Our five year old...

It was hard to put a title to this review. We (My wife and 3 children) have just returned from 12 nights at the lodge. To be truthful at 1st we though " what have we done?" LOL Both my wife and I lead very busy lives and the reality of entering into a world of simplicity came as a...

Although we stayed in the neighbouring resort, we were there every day (and some sunsets) for multiple reasons. We thoroughly enjoyed the food, especially appreciating the variety on offer for both lunches and dinners. Their friendly and helpful staff with a real comfortable atmosphere. We enjoyed two exciting scuba dives, showcasing some awesome sea life. And when you see Ollie,...

I wish we had discovered Matafonua ten years ago. We have been to multiple destinations on all the Pacific Islands but this place tops them all. Perfect holiday destination run by great people. All the other comments say it all so no need to add anything else to advertise it's "perfectness". I just hope {selfishly} it doesn't get too popular...

Matafonao sits right on a beautiful beach on the northern tip of Foa Island. Because of its location, you can easily watch the sunrise and the sunset and spend the rest of the day snorkeling (equipment is free to use), swimming, kayaking (also free) or just hanging out. Besides the location, there are two other reasons that you will want...
