This is a older resort that needs a refresh to compete with newer places. Very nice rooms as long as you get the Premium room. Ours had two queens, two sinks with lots of counter space and a view of the ski lifts and the Mississippi River. If you choose a room, pick one with the River View, otherwise you'll end up with the parking lot. I did hear from others that had a standard room that there was very little bathroom counter space and the room was tiny, I didn't see this firsthand though. Room was very clean but dated. Carpeting needs replaced, it was clean but very flat from wear. Beds were comfortable, pillows were great, but the blankets needed updating. Our view was fantastic from our room. Shower head.... for the love of all things... PLEASE REPLACE THE 1980'S SHOWER HEAD. This is honestly my biggest complaint. For such a small thing, it really did bring the overall experience down. It would make a huge difference. Upgrade the shampoo too. It is some conditioning shampoo and there is no actual conditioner. It's just clear liquid, not even a name brand. For the money I admit I expected at least a small bottle of name brand shampoo and conditioner. It's the little things, folks. There are NO ELEVATORS, so if you have difficulties with the stairs, get one on the 2nd level. There were 3 steps to get up to the room level. First level is walk-out type rooms and down the stairs, so it is laid out a little differently. Dining at the resort was excellent. Food was great. We loved the BLT with an egg and ordered it more than once. Steak was cooked perfectly - med rare. No complaints at all here. Servers were really nice also. Great place to watch the sunset over the River with a glass of wine. Activities were limited, granted it IS Summer. We each had to pay $5 for one game of Mini Golf. The course needs new green carpeting, otherwise we had a blast as a family of 8 adults. BTW, I did score a hole in one so, I have to give this props! We did ride the ski lift down and took the Mississippi River Boat Tour. It was $40 a person for an hour and a half ride. We felt it was worth it. Captain Bob kept us entertained. Saw lots of Bald Eagles. There is a zip line of sorts where two people sit and are pulleyed up then let go to come back to the post. It doesn't go over trees or much other than the grass and ski area. I did not try it as no one in my party had the guts to do it with me, haha. There is a slide that you can ride a plastic cart with wheels and a hand brake. It goes the distance down the hill, twists and turns, and looked really fun. I did not try this either. I do think the younger folks would have a ball. We did not utilize the pool, though lots of families did. Overall, I felt the place was very nice. We were there "off season" so the little shops were closed. I can imagine it is neater in the winter. If the owners put some money into the place and did renovations, even minor ones, it would make such a difference. Gorgeous sunsets and I bet it is amazing in the fall. Location is fabulous. Chestnut Mountain Resort is on the cusp of either making a great comeback with some updating, or sliding down and being a has-been. Please put in some hardwood, newer carpets, new duvets, new SHOWER HEADS, and freshen up the place. I will come back even if you don't; it was that nice, I now know to plan ahead.…
