We very much enjoyed our stay at the Irish Cottage! I felt like I was in a little part of Ireland. Pros: 1. The decor is wonderful! Each room is named after a county in Ireland. The rooms have lovely Irish artwork in the rooms. And a St.Brigid's Cross above the door! 2. Bed was very comfy! Sheets were nice and soft too! 3. The breakfast was delicious! It was served on china and in the pub. It was the standard breakfast fare of eggs, sausages, little potatoes, but it seemed to taste better than other hotels basic breakfasts. They also had scones that were so tasty! 4. The breakfast host was very nice and attentive. I heard him ask several people how their meals were. 5. In the back of the hotel there is a short hiking trail. And a fairie ring! Both are really neat and nicely done! 6. We stayed in a standard king room. More than enough space for two people. Didn't feel cramped. Cons 1. Our room didn't have a microwave (but did have a fridge). We were told traditional king rooms didn't have microwaves. I found this to be odd. I've never stayed in a hotel without a microwave before. It would be nice if management would add this feature to a regular king room. Sometimes people like to heat up leftovers . 2. Towels did the job but did look worn. They need to be updated. 3. This hotel is 15-20 years old by now. It does need some updates, but I hope the hotel just replaces what is worn (like towels, repainting the murals outside, wallpaper etc) since I think the decor of the hotel is fantastic and I would hate for them to lose the "Irish" look of the hotel. 4. The tiny Irish shop had very little merch. They really need more items in there! Maybe they could team up with Shamrock Imports in Dubuque for more items. 5. Wish the pub had music every night!…
The hotel was very nice. The room was very clean. However, the pool heater was broken and we weren't told this until we went to the pool and saw that it was green. The employee told us we could swim but it would be cold. Um, I don't think so. Also, twice the same employee was getting himself on one occasion coffee when there weren't enough cups for the customers and filling a to go box with food while we the guest waited for him to finish. When we checked out I asked for my receipt to be emailed to me. We've been home for several hours and still don't have that email.
enjoyed staying here. Needs some updating. Will stay here again. stayed during covid so things were limited but we found options to eat and do around us. Close to trails and spent lots of time enjoying that.
Cozy. Friendly. Wonderful. This is a very intimate and lovely place to stay. There is LIVE music in the restaurant in the hotel and the breakfast is delicious. The location is perfect and the space is clean and warm and friendly. It’s a great little place to stay.
We loved this quaint hotel. The staff was very welcoming. Our room was clean and very comfortable. We loved the free coffee bar downstairs and were also happy to have a mini fridge in our room. We had cocktails in the bar on our first night and decided to have dinner the following evening which was very good, and they had entertainment! The breakfast was much better than some other hotels we’ve been to. A very nice buffet with sausages, potatoes, eggs, bagels, toast, juice etc. I would definitely recommend the Irish Cottage.
