My wife and I needed a get away weekend, and Galena was the place we choose. I looked at the many bed and breakfasts available in town and the surrounding area, but decided upon the Stoney Creek Inn. We selected a king themed room as it included a whirlpool tub. The Inn is a cute little place located on the western side of the town just a few minutes away from downtown. Our room was very updated and although I was worried about road noise, was never bothered by the trucks passing by. The staff were wonderfully helpful, very nice and just a pleasant group overall. The room was large and the whirlpool was a nice place to soak after a day of walking around the town. The whirlpool was large enough for both of us to soak at the same time which was also nice. In other places I have stayed with a whirlpool tub, you usually have to work magic to allow two people in at the same time. This was not the case with the Stoney Creek whirlpools. Breakfast had a nice selection of food items including bagels, muffins, eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy, pancakes, yogurt, fresh fruit, coffee and a juice machine (apple, orange and my favorite peach were offered). The theme of the Inn is a rustic log cabin type feel and was very well maintained. I will definitely stay here again and will recommend it to friends and family in the future.

My mom and I stayed for a weekend in July. In Galena we enjoyed the dining and shopping. I think we would stay at Stoney Creek Inn again. Downtown Galena was just a short drive down the hill. The hotel has a McDonalds and Piggly Wiggly next door. Walmart is a mile down the road. The hotel has a grill outside and patio area and hotel bar. My mom had a glass of wine and it was about $7, which was what we paid in Galena restaurants, too. The hotel allows dogs and we saw several. I wish I knew they didn't have an elevator and that they were not serving their traditional breakfast. For us, it was fine lugging our bags to the second floor. But, it would have been easier with an elevator. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I didn't expect the traditional hotel continental breakfast, but didn't see any communications on the website. I would suggest calling to see what the hotel policies are before visiting. The hotel did offer a complementary breakfast grab and go option. I was hoping to have some milk to put on the oatmeal I brought from home, but they offered bottled water in the grab and go breakfast. We also received a breakfast bar, apple and yogurt. The room had a microwave and tall/small refrigerator. I was surprised at how small the hotel room felt. The room was missing a closet and little table. It did have a desk, desk chair, dresser, fridge, microwave and chair. There was a rod with hangers in the far corner to hang clothing.. Our room had two beds. The smaller rooms make you feel like you are in a tiny cabin...which is the theme of the hotel. We had two adults in our room. I would feel claustrophobic with more people. The hotel has larger rooms, and I would suggest calling to talk with the front desk about options. The weather was hot and muggy outside and our room always had a damp feeling. We ran the A/C but my swimsuit didn't dry after two days. The employees were nice and the hotel was clean.

Some of the reviews made me a little nervous. People were complaining about how old and musty smelling the rooms were and how much dust was allowed to accumulate on items in the room. I have to tell you, other than a little dust on the blinds, I did not have the same experience. Our room was clean and had no bad smell whatsoever. Check in was easy, other than they don't allow you to check in before the 3:00 check in time. We arrived about 2:15 and had to drive around until check in. Even though we were denied early check in, the front desk clerks were very pleasant and accommodating upon our return. We had requested a first floor room because we were traveling with my 88 year old grandma who doesn't do stairs very well anymore (THERE IS NO ELEVATOR) and the staff made sure to accommodate. There is no housekeeping service during your stay, but you can go to the desk and request any items that you need (bath tissue, towels, etc.). There is a free breakfast of Sausage Links, Scrambled Eggs, Potatoes, Pancakes, Cereal, Muffins and Fruit and they seemed to keep it pretty well stocked. Breakfast is served until 9:30 and we went down around 9:00 and there was still plenty to choose from. Overall we had a pleasant 4 day stay and I would not hesitate to stay here again.

Our room was on the 2nd floor. Extremely quiet. Beds were very comfortable. An assortment of different pillows on each bed was a nice extra. Used the indoor pool and hot tub which were not crowded and very clean. The included breakfast was standard (pancakes, eggs, sausage, fruit, yogurt, etc). The seating area was small for the number of people however you can take your breakfast into the bar, just across the hallway from the buffet, where there are additional tables. There are also a couple areas with outside tables where you can sit, play games, chat with friends, etc. Surprised to see a $25 additional charge on my credit card statement when I got home (granted it was pending) with no mention from the front desk when I checked in or out. I presume it is a fee charged to cover possible room damage or missing towels and will be removed upon final billing. Hotel location is excellent. Just a mile north of the historic district making it easy to get into town.

More like a 3.5, but that isn’t an option so gave a 4. Not fancy, but has a microwave and fridge if that is important for you and family. Room has a hair dryer and ironing supplies. In our room there was no closet, just a corner shelf with a bar and some plastic hangars.

Next to a main roadway it can be loud. But if the location and property is not important to you, then it’s not a deal breaker.

Despite the noise/traffic, there are Adirondack chairs out front to sit and enjoy the breeze. Alongside them and the main entrance is a smoking area, with tables and chairs. That seemed to be very busy with smokers. So, unless the whole area was unoccupied we didn’t use the chairs.

Free breakfast would do the trick for most… hot eggs, meat and potatoes. A pancake making machine, some breads, cereal, milk and juices. Again it’s not fancy, have realistic expectations.

Teen daughter used the hot tub, and enjoyed it the first day prior to older adults and small children arriving and taking over the pool area.

Frankly this property was overpriced for the star category, but you are paying based on seasonal demand in a tourist area.

Staff was helpful and kind.

My husband and I are on vacation for our 1 year wedding anniversary! We decided to stay at the Stoney Creek Inn because we loved the log cabin look and we wanted an affordable room with a hot tub. We were amazed when we got here! It's absolutely beautiful! Trevor was working the front desk and bar. Not only is he extremely nice but he was so helpful! Gave us ideas of what we could do on our trip and even called some of the places to get info for us!
Our room is fantastic! Trevor said it's actually his favorite room in the hotel (room 91). It's nice and quiet. Large room, comfy bed, beautiful hot tub, and large private bathroom with a walk in shower! This hotel even has an indoor pool, an exercise room, and breakfast every morning!
Another great perk is we are right across the parking lot from a Piggly Wiggly! So, whenever we wanted some snacks (or a bottle of champagne) we just had to walk across the parking lot! So convenient!

This is our second time staying at this hotel. We felt it was overpriced for the stay and the rooms are okay. The only reason we stay here is because we can bring our dog. The cost to bring your dog is only $25 a day which is really nice. So this is really the only option to stay and bring your dog and be close to Main Street. The rooms do not seem that clean and this last time there was mold on the inner shower curtain and there was a dried up contact lense on one of our towels. The breakfast and coffee are not too good and you should just got out for breakfast there are a lot of nice places for breakfast in Galena anyway. With the money we spent we could of got a lot nicer of a hotel room and somewhere we preferred but with this being one of the few dog friendly hotels our hands were tied.

We arrived on a Sunday night, a young woman was carrying a vacuum cleaner and in a cheerful voice said, “I’ll be right there!”. In short she was there by herself, playing bartender, front counter, attending the phone and who knows what else. Place was clean, ok breakfast, nice decor, close to downtown Galena. Samantha pushes it over the edge in a great way.

The front desk staff were excellent and professional. Whoever prepared our room did an excellent job! They even paid attention to little details like neatly folding the edge of tissue and toilet paper. Made us feel like we were in a 5 star hotel. The room was larger than most and having a pool, a bar and a foyer fireplace was really special and inviting. The breakfast was very good. Good location just about a mile away from downtown Galena. Restaurants & Piggly Wiggly across the street.
THANK YOU for a wonderful stay! We will certainly be back!!!

Many times, a hotel is a hotel. Where you stay might not matter when you are busy sightseeing but in this case, it matters! We liked this place so much, we found ourselves wanting to allow enough time to enjoy the environment.

Stoney Creek Inn has a rustic, fishing, northwoods design and everything is done very well.

We were surprised by the comfortable, homey feeling we had. The pool and hottub are not only large but the entire room is like being in a lodge.

We enjoyed relaxing on the cute outdoor patio, midafternoon. In the evening, we had cocktails at the small, friendly bar.

The junior suite is super roomy and comfortable.

The free breakfast was very good and there was a wide selection of food, which we appreciate.

The staff was super friendly and helpful. We enjoyed getting to know you, Trevor!

Stoney Creek Inn is now the only place we will stay in Galena.

While it is a 3 to 5 minute drive and only a quarter mile from downtown, walking is not really an option because there are no sidewalks and it's you'd be right next to a busy highway. We are worth the short trip by car or cab and we look forward to your stay!
