This is a fantastic, eco-friendly inn located in a peaceful setting on the Shawnee Hills Wine Trail, nestled in the Shawnee National Forest. It’s the perfect home base to explore local wineries, state parks, and other southern Illinois attractions. The innkeepers, Loraine and Malcolm, are very welcoming. We stayed for two nights, and the breakfasts both days were delicious and...

My wife and I recently stayed at Makanda Inn for our annual getaway. I am not sure what we expected when we arrived but this Inn was certainly out of the ordinary. The inn itself and the cottages were constructed using natural methods and materials. Very cool! We enjoyed the quiet and serene setting. The rooms were clean, quiet, and...

My last stay at the Makanda Inn was in 2013 and the innkeepers have changed a couple of times since then! The new couple managing the Inn and doing the fantastic cooking now are from New Jersey and are very happy learning about all southern Illinois has to offer. The Inn is meticulously maintained; breakfasts fresh and delicious. It was...

Modern, clean, comfortable, amazing breakfasts, incredible linens. Wonderful hosts who have the perfect balance of welcoming friendliness with allowing guests plenty of privacy. We spent three nights and enjoyed the peaceful surroundings. It has a spa like feel and would highly recommend for a couples get away.

We highly recommend Makanda Inn for a memorable stay. The hosts Malcolm and Loraine were so inviting and the West End Cottage was an experience in itself. It felt like an extension of nature but with the modern conveniences of home. We loved the location with its many trees, babbling creek, and surround sound of nature. It is also conveniently...

My wife and I stayed in the West End cottage for our anniversary. It was the perfect way to enjoy some isolation in the woods without giving up any of the comforts of home. The cottage is clean and modern, yet simple. It is furnished with every item you could need for cooking. The furniture is unique and hand crafted....

Such an outstanding experience to get away for a couple of days, couldn't have chosen better accommodations. We drove in late from the Chicago area, very late on a Thursday night, and Lorraine was gracious enough to make arrangements for our arrival. The room was perfect size, cozy but not too small with vanity, dressing and sitting areas. Little indulgences...

We loved our stay at this very beautiful inn. We had spent a day touring the nearby wineries and ended here for the night. Our room was lovely and the common area was beautiful. The hosts, Lorraine and Malcolm, assure a very comfortable stay. We enjoyed the warmth of the fireplace in the pleasant common room and then enjoyed wonderful breakfasts there both mornings. The rooms in the lodge are well designed with especially luxurious dressing area/showers. Linens are highest quality. Hosts encourage suggestions for improvements. It is well located to area attractions and...
