Fully renovated in 2011 the Dumfries Arms is a contemporary, stylish boutique Hotel with 26 stunning guest rooms, stylish restaurant and function facilities that ensure its place as one of Ayrshire's largest and most stunning wedding and events venues. Rich in history, The Dumfries Arms Hotel has stood at the heart of the ancient burgh of Cumnock, Ayrshire since the early 18th century and even predates nearby Dumfries House, saved for the nation by HRH The Prince of Wales and now one of the nation's most stunning heritage attractions. Over its 300 year history the hotel's guests have included some colourful and well known characters including our national bard, Robert Burns and Sir Walter Scott, who made reference to his stay in Old Cumnock..."Where beds are as hard as a plank, sir". Much has changed since! However, as an important part of our heritage, due homage has been accorded with these historic words being embroidered on soft furnishings within our guest rooms. We should add that our beds are magnificently comfortable! We look forward to welcoming you to one of Scotland's newest, privately owned boutique hotels whether as a resident, diner, or to view our stunning function facilities if you are planning a very special event. A warm welcome is guaranteed.
We attended an event in the function room so decided to have Sunday lunch first. The full menu was available but there was a fixed main Sunday lunch, and a brief Sunday specials menu. We both had the former, with tender beef, huge Yorkshire, roast and mashed potato, several vegetables and good gravy. I chose a salted caramel cheesecake which was good, and my partner had an average rice pudding with apples. We were greeted nicely and looked after very well by Evan, who brought us a jug of iced water while we chose our food. He was attentive but not intrusive. Parking was easy, toilets and all areas we visited clean. We'll certainly think of revisiting if in the area again.

This was an ‘itison’ voucher, so our original room was to the back. However, the room firstly allocated to us, had not been cleaned. We were immediately upgraded with lots of apologies from desk staff. The upgraded room was lovely but the wi-fi didn’t quite reach it, even after we had mentioned this. This wasn’t a big problem as it made us stay off our phones. Part of the deal was dinner on the first night and breakfast both mornings. Dinner was good, but nothing special. The female server was lovely and smiley and friendly, the male server was polite and efficient but no smile to be seen. Both breakfasts we were greeted with surly faced servers, again efficient but looked as though they didn’t want to be there. Breakfast was edible but nothing special. Won’t bother going back.…

Called in for a quick coffee, but enjoyed it so much that we stayed for a dinner. Everything was great from decor, staff, atmosphere, cleanliness and food. Ideal location for anyone visiting or passing through East Ayrshire and electric car chargers in a nearby car park are currently free to use at 22kwh (although seemed to operate at less. We will be back

Love this place, but it could use a bit of TLC. Sort of Fawlty Towers at the moment. The hair conditioner in the shower was actually body lotion. Phone didn’t work. Hair dryer was missing. Furniture is pretty banged up. Mattress is bottom tier—a cushy topper would change everything. But staff is adorable and location is great. Apparently, it was redone in 2011. Time to think about it again.

Have just returned from a stay at this lovely hotel. The room was spacious and well furnished and the bed very comfortable. Best of all the staff were so friendly and couldn't do enough for us. Particular mention of the wonderful Louise, who went out of her way to make our stay so memorable. Thank you Louise.

Stayed with two friends and we had a triple room, first impressions were very good room looked fine, we decided to have a cocktail and we ordered a jug between three of us, one measure of spirit in it and cost £15, it was not good, we had our meal and about four hours later I was very sick which lasted the whole night and wasn’t able to travel home the next day so had to stay another night, the bed I had was a guest bed and the most uncomfortable night you could feel each spring, one friend left the next day so I was able to sleep in her bed. Wouldn’t visit again.

stayed as a group of 24 walkers for the weekend. The Dumfries Arms ticked every box for us. A beautiful hotel, friendly professional staff throughout, immaculately clean, delicious food and a relaxed atmosphere all helped to make our stay amazing. Many, many thanks. If you need a hotel in the Cumnock area then look no further, you will not be disappointed.

Firstly the good parts, the food was enjoyable and well presented, the drinks as would be expected, the service absolutely shocking, lazy & disrespectful staff, just didn't seem or want to be attending tables or customers just not what is expected from any food outlet never mind a hotel restaurant. Empty glasses left between courses or fresh drink orders being brought to the table just left to keep the other empty's company. nothing worse than a messy table when dinning out. I found since my last visit the restraint has become run down, shabby with very worn carpets that are now in need of replacement, part of the bench seating totally come away when leaving the table. After looking at the floor area it was covered with splatters of residual food from previous sittings, it just was not a happy atmosphere or experience when you know the staff cant be bothered and are clock watching from our pre booked arrival time. I had the choice too dine elsewhere but choose the Dumfries Arms for a family get together but left wishing I had never booked. I hope you will take the issues raised seriously and address them for the restaurants overall benefit. This was reported to the restaurant duty manager before leaving but offered no real resolution, except its good to have feed back. Now I remember why I have not been back for some years. …
