Had a few nights here and booked a superior room which was good, not outstanding but good. The bath was on the small side and had a drench shower over it which was a work of art to get in, not fall over and not...More
Stayed at Cuckoo Brow a few times before as it is really dog friendly and comfortable for walkers (no need for posh frocks, walking gear is perfectly good enough). The food has always been good, both dinner and breakfast. Unfortunately we were sadly disappointed in...More
Just down the lane from Beatrix Potter's house at Hill Top this is a lovely place to stop for lunch or just a coffee.
A very interesting menu and a good selection of local real ales makes this a real find.

Thanks so much for stopping off for lunch and taking the time to post your kind review. We love when people post their menu choices too! We hope your travels bring you our way again in the future. Thank you.
We had our second two day break at this inn. Very clean comfortable rooms and excellent service and the food of a very high standard, as well as the draught beer. The Cumbrian breakfast is the tastiest breakfast I've had since we last stayed there.

Very friendly and welcoming pub with rooms. Stayed here for three nights with our dog and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Nice room that was big enough and large en-suite. Good base to explore the south lakes with plenty of walking nearby.More

Lots to do, especially if they like the outdoors and walking. The hotel is an ideal base for walking to get the ferry on Windermere, we walked down to the ferry crossing and it took us about 20 mins. Windermere has lots of shops, cafes and places to explore.
The hotel is also very close to Beatrix Potters house which is a nice visitor attraction. Hawkshead village is 10/15 mins away by car.
Going slightly further afield, Consiton Water is about 20 mins away by car and you can find a nice little village with pubs and shops and Ruskins house.
We went to Tarn Hows which is about 25 mins away and had a lovely walk in the beautiful surroundings and then carried on to Grasmere.
It really is an ideal base but secluded enough to feel relaxed and 'away from it all'.
Hope that helps!
dog are only mentioned because it can be difficult getting a dog friendly hotel,we didn't take the dog and there were only two very well behaved dogs there hen we stayed.
Dogs apart cuckoo brow is a fabulous place to stay
