After years of wanting to stay at this hotel, we were still surprised on arrival in Glen Davis at what a unique experience it is to be in this part of the world. I don't want to say too much, because it is such a fascinating experience to arrive at this amazing place in the Capertee Valley, and to take...

Unfortunately, we only had one night at this extremely interesting hotel. It is, indeed, well off the grid, That alone makes it a special experience. However, if you love birds this will be one of the very best roads you will travel enroute to Glen Davis. Warmly greeted by Alison, we quickly took a step back in time, into the...

My family had a lovely weekend here. We enjoyed the swimming pool particularly as the weather was very warm and from the pool we had a great view of the surrounding mountains. Very scenic area and nice drive from Sydney through the Blue Mountains. Owners very welcoming and helpful with advice on the local area. Lots of beautiful spots to...

Beautifully restored art deco building, with art & decor lovingly done. A labour of love by the owners. Alison & Adam are really lovely hosts, generous with their knowledge of the art deco period, the house & the area. Superb sandwiches & homemade cake for lunch. Dinner was really good - pumpkin soup, beef, rosti & chocolate marquise, what's not...

We recently enjoyed a short stay at Glen Davis Boutique Hotel. Ensure you visit on a Saturday and arrive by 2pm for a guided visit to the old shale oil works ($15pp). Our hosts served a delicious afternoon tea on the verandah and we enjoyed the pool room and the open fire place in the beautifully renovated lounge. This is...

We had made a booking via the net and email but somewhere a glitch had occurred so we turned up without a fixed booking. Luckily they had space and welcomed us in. This is an older style building which has been well renovated and furnished with antiques. Dinner and breakfast was in the tariff. We shared a table with other...

We recently held a large 50th birthday party at the Glen Davis Boutique Hotel over three days and two nights. Our hosts, Adam and Alison and their family were a pleasure to plan the event with and really helpful in maximising the best way to use their lovely, comfortable hotel for the best outcome. Under their guidance we happily surrendered...

In the middle of no where! This inn is run by a very nice family. It is an odd inn with each room different and bathrooms adjacent and not en suite. Each room is different, much like a B&B but they so serve 3 meals. Their cooking is both generous and very good. The inn has an astounding collection of...

The Hotel is heated. There does has 2 slow combustion heaters, one in the lounge and another in the pool room with chimneys radiating heat through the entire upstairs. There are also 2 gas heaters in the reception and dining room areas. In 13 years of operating the Hotel no guest has ever complained about being cold, rather they are...

We came here with some friends so it was great the hotel was from a different era and we really enjoyed our time together. The hotel is extensively decorated in an Art Deco style and has an excellent pool room, dining room and Lounge room, magnificent entry and spectacular views of the cliffs surrounding the valley. The rooms are basic...

This is quite a tricky review to write as there is a lot to like but a lot that falls short too. Glen Davis was once a thriving shale oil mining town on the western side of the range north of Lithgow. At its height it was about 2,500 people, mainly miners. In the early 1950's the need for shale...
