The lobby is very small so appeared very crowded at first, however, there were multiple desks open for check in so it was a very smooth process. We also figured out the lobby was on the pathway between the water park and the elevators, so that certainly contributed to the chaos. The room was...fine. It was clean, the linens were nice, the pillows, while confusing at first (they're small squares) were actually super comfortable. It's an older hotel to be sure, and our curtains had a rip in them, but the kids certainly didn't notice and the bathroom was clean. Breakfast was very good. I was irritated at my kids for getting up at their normal 6:45am, but we went down to breakfast and hung around for a bit. Glad we did. By 8:30 (breakfast closed at 9), the line was outrageous - through the entire breakfast area and down the hall. Told my son no round 2 on donuts for him! The idea of getting a table would have been hilarious. The water park was perfect for our kids - 5 & 8. 1.5ft max depth area for littles, massive play structure with 2 fast slides, tiny lazy river, a big slide, and 2 hot tubs. Again, perfect for littler kids. The crowds, unfortunately, were comprised of awful people doing whatever they wanted. I'm not sure if the lifeguards had no control of the rules or if there were no rules, but, for example, the landing zone of the slide was constantly crowded with kids swimming with and without tubes. Running was fine, pushing/horseplay was fine, anything went. One other note about the water park: get there early. There are very few tables relative to the size of the place (sensing a pattern....). We arrived Monday at 9am, it was not crowded at all, by 9:15 there was not a single unoccupied chair in the place. And there are very few benches/other types of areas that would at least let you sit down. Overall, the kids had a good time and we'll likely be back in the future, armed with our new knowledge.

If you've got kids who want to go to the Waterpark, go. If not, try to find something else in Dubuque that meets your needs. Our room was on the river, which we liked very much, but it was not clean. The picture on this page is misleading because all the landscaping in front is either dead or dying or a weed. There was also a dead couch in the hallway. The front desk staff was great.

Resort is in need of major updating. Rooms need refreshment and a deep cleaning. Wallpaper needs to go and the main entrance/elevators need the floors washed, there stains all over from dried spills etc. The kids loved it had a blast at water park and didn’t seem to notice how run down it was. The water park needs updating and painting as well, it’s about 10 years past it’s prime. The area is very nice with the river walk and Mississippi River right there. The museum and aquarium nearby was a nice visit too.

We had a multi-generation family weekend at Grand Harbor over Labor Day Weekend, 2022. Our group totaled 23 people, ranging in age from 2 to 79. Everyone had regular rooms except one family got a 1-bedroom suite which we used as a private space for our whole family to spend time together. We had a nice time and plan to return next year. Pros: Room & water park were clean Having water park on property was very convenient Beds were very comfortable Great water pressure in shower Beautiful Mississippi River views from our rooms. (Rooms on opposite side of hallway face parking lot & have city view of Dubuque.) Nice walking path behind hotel, along the river. Note that the path is only about 0.7 miles long, so you have to continue into other areas for a longer walk/run. Mini refrigerators in every room Elevators were fast, never a long wait. Water park had many water features for young children and a few medium slides for older children and adults. Enjoyed the hot tubs. Locker rooms with showers to use if you want to stay at water park later on your check-out day. They're plain, like locker rooms at public pools, but serve their purpose Plenty of towels always stocked at pool. These towels are thin but you can take more than one. Nice towels in room - thick & soft Parking was free & easy to access Cons: Hotel didn't have a reservation for me upon arrival. This was surprising, because they had required names and addresses for everyone in order to complete initial large group reservation. Front desk staff called a manager, then accommodated me with another room. My room had a musty smell that didn't improve through the weekend. Must have been in the air conditioning filter? Everything seemed clean. (Sheets didn't smell musty, for example.) Daily breakfast area was an absolute zoo on each of the 3 mornings we were there; crowded, kids running around, lines for food.

We just left Grand Harbor. We were in town for. Baseball tournament at the Field of Dreams. I based out decision to stay off of reviews so figured I'd also give my honest input. The hotel is clearly short staffed. You will not have daily housekeeping which was fine for us because we'd like to chose not to anyway. But, some prefer that. A section of the waterpark was closed off and there was a sign stating that the park wouldn't be open to non hotel guest due to being short staffed. So, patience there is required. Staff was polite, only one lifeguard who was rude but my guess is she is working her tail off to cover for lack of other staff. She was more condescending than rude I suppose, but regardless - I let it slide. The waterpark is no comparison to anything in Wisconsin Dells, Great Wolf, Wilderness, etc. So if your expectations are that, you will be disappointed. Its small, but for my family it was great. We have a 4,7, and 11 year old and they were entertained the entire time. Snack shop in the park has just that, snacks ... And cocktails :) The arcade is small and several games were out of order, that was annoying. The laser maze thing was fun for the kids too. Free breakfast was really good, but not a lot of seating. We stood and ate both mornings we went down. Only 2 elevators so we took the stairs a lot, fine for us but won't work for some obviously. Check in and out was super quick and easy. Rooms were fine, but not good enough for the price we paid to stay ($559 total, get $50 back) I would have loved for the air to work better. We had it set at 69 and it was SO humid and warm on our room. There is no vent in the bathroom so it was a steamy hot mess with everyone showering and trying to get ready. We did have trouble sleeping because of it how warm the room stayed. The unit smelled weird too when it was running. We had a great view of the river, kids loved that. We did the river walk, super relaxing. Directly across the street is a casino, but we weren't able to go. Would have loved to. This hotel is in a really great location, we went downtown for a walk, ate, looked at the big houses. I do suggest making the trip to the Field of Dreams also, so much fun. Overall, our stay was good. Worth almost $600? No. Did it serve it's purpose, absolutely.

We’re grandparents that went with our 2 adult children and their spouses and 6 granddaughters age 2-10. So 12 people. We had a 2 queen adjoining room to another 2 queen room and a suite just down the hall. The rooms are clean and had everything we needed. The rooms were not fancy, but clean (before we descended). I’m glad it wasn’t fancy so I didn’t spend my time worrying that the kids might break something. The water park was just the right size and had something for ever age including seniors. We had a beautiful view of the Mississippi River from our room! In the evening I babysat while the adults walked across the parking lot to the casino. They came back tipsy and had fun. Walking distance to lots of fun sights.

I would have given this place 5 stars … my only complaint, which may sound silly to some but important to me, is that there weren’t enough electric outlets! There were 2 usable … one in the bathroom and one tucked back next to the microwave. We needed many more to charge our phones, watches and iPad. The water park was plenty for our 2 year old who just wanted to wade around the kiddie pool and go down the slide. The breakfast was FANTASTIC!! Everything tasted great and the staff servicing were all great as well, very friendly!! Whoever made those donut holes should get a raise … those were the best I’ve ever had! The rooms were outdated but clean and spacious. I’m a little amazed they only have 2 elevators for that large of a place but it all worked out fine. The arcade was fun but you don’t win any tickets for prizes which we didn’t care about but I’m sure some kids wouldn’t love that. We ate lunch at Tony Roma’s out on the patio which had a beautiful view and food was good. We would definitely come back!

We have stayed here before and been pleased but the resort has had a massive downhill slide. I cannot recommend any aspect of this resort to anyone. We were there for a dance competition (same reason as previous stays) and it was a complete mess from our room to the convention center to the restaurant. We arrived on Friday and had to dance first. I had to stand in line for 20+ minutes to register because the employees were inept at registering guests. We didn’t make it to our room until approx 10pm due to dance and getting locked inside the convention center. Apparently, the staff doesn’t check for people. The employee that came to let us out was completely, unnecessarily rude. Did we ask to be locked in? No. Finally get to our room and it’s disgusting. Old food in fridge. Not vacuumed. Dirty towels hanging on the shower. Feces on the toilet. Filthy sink and vanity. Odd smell. And air didn’t work. Tried calling the front desk multiple times and no one answered. Common areas are filthy and disgusting. The floors are sticky everywhere. Garbages overflowing everywhere. Rude or nonexistent staff. Gross breakfast - the scrambled eggs were swimming in liquid. The whole experience was beyond disappointing and not at all worth the money and extra fees. 100% avoid this place.

Thank you for your feedback. I sincerely apologize for your experience and I see that we have all ready compensated you for your experience. Our check in times do vary because of the amount of people we have and 20 minutes is about our average especially during dance competition weekends. It is not that are staff is inept, actually they are fantastic but we are still trying to hire more employees. Your room condition is unacceptable and those issues will be addressed. That is not our protocol and there was obviously a breakdown in service with your room. Thank you again for our feedback.

My wife reserved a room for 2 adults and 4 children. They reserved it for 2 adults. After our 5 hour drive they tell us that we were reserved for just 2 adults and that we need to pay to upgrade our room to accommodate us. It seems like they could have just upgraded us for the screw up but nope. They refuse us a upgrade or our money back and now I've been waiting a month for the manager to call me back. Also, there was no mention while booking that the Waterpark was closed. Don't waste your time with such a sketchy place

Ok. So. We came during a particular busy time of year: spring break. Stayed Saturday and Sunday and the total cost was $400. To say the cost was NOT WORTH IT is an understatement. I will say that the employees are very kind and helpful, we did not come across an employee that we thought was sub par. The room (636) was so unbelievably out dated it 100% would have passed for a crappy Motel 6. Not exaggerating. Badly in need of a fresh coat of paint, replacement of worn furniture and fixtures, replacement of peeling wall paper, getting rid of spiders. The worst was the air conditioning. The room stayed at a constant 70 degrees, and the bathrooms don’t have exhaust fans. Add the warmth with the humidity from 4 people taking a shower and you have an extremely uncomfortable room. We could not get the room below 70 degrees. Moisture was dripping from the window. So frustrating to pay what we paid and wake up sweating each night. The breakfast was so-so, each morning g we were there was biscuits and gravy, sausage and eggs. The workers were outstanding and worked hard to keep it stocked and clean. They were awesome. The waterpark is dated and smallish, I would not suggest it for over 9 years of age. For what we paid I absolutely do not recommend! But do give compliments to the workers.
