This was a good place to stop for a night. There are lots of places to eat not too far away. And it's close to all the tourist stuff in Galena, though we didn't spend any time there. The Hobby Lobby next door provided all the entertainment I needed for the evening :). The room was pretty small, but clean and nice; seemed like it may have been remodeled recently. Bathroom had a nice counter top, but it took up space so you could hardly turn around or even get to the tub. The pool area looked really nice and clean. Decent breakfast area next to the front desk. Good waffles, fake eggs, biscuits and gravy, all the normal stuff. Coffee's nothing to brag about but it usually isn't at hotels. Pleasant people at the front desk.
Expected more being a Choice Hotel. Front entry door didn't close, The counter person at the time we checked in was Blah.. When we go to our room walking in the first thing we noticed was the sheer curtains were shredded, wow. Breakfast was good.
Stayed two nights, First night the hot tub was not working, and no prior notice. One of the ladders for the pool was broken. the room was something else, the office chair would not roll, the fan speed could not be changed on the AC. The Alarm clock was two hours off and could not adjust. The bathroom had an elongated toilet (which was at an angle, so you could open the door) and the door rubbed against it. None of the drains were what I would call fast. Needless to say we will not be staying there again.
Let's first understand this is a budget hotel and you will get what you pay for. That being said, it was a little rough around the edges. All the chairs and the carpet in my room had stains and the room was definitely a little "tired". However, the bed was nice and clean! The free breakfast was good for this type of hotel.
We spent two nights at this property. As another reviewer mentioned, the landscaping is basically non-existent and there is no curb appeal. Probably wouldn't have stayed there had we been driving through and needed to find a room for the night. Chose this hotel as we prefer a room that is accessible and those are few and far between. It also had the added advantage of accepting pets. (Hadn't intended to bring my 20 year-old cat when I made the reservations three weeks ago but decided I just couldn't leave him home alone. He would miss his thyroid medication and didn't want that to happen.) So that is a plus. Also, we had a room with two queen beds and we both commented that the mattress was very comfortable on each bed. Another plus. However, a big disappointment was finding that the available electrical outlets were not great. We both use a C-PAP machine and there was only one functioning outlet near the beds. Knew it was a bad sign on finding the bed-side clock plugged in but not showing any time. The outlet by the table also had only one functioning outlet. We have learned not to rely on the hotels so we had two power strips in the luggage. So it was okay but we would have been in a bad place if we hadn't brought the power strips.…
