Standing tall as the northern gateway to Maquoketa Iowa's historic Main Street is the Decker House Hotel. Constructed in 1875 by visionary developer James Decker the hotel hosts 17 guest rooms. No modern hotel can compete with the Decker's grand staircase created from regionally local woods. A Victorian gem located in the heart of the Midwest the Decker House Hotel boasts an impressive collection of antique ambiance with modern comforts. Located just a few miles from the Maquoketa Caves State Park, surrounded by various wineries (including Iowa's first Estate Winery in Baldwin), accessible Kayaking, Golfing Privileges at the Maquoketa Country Club, and access to the local YMCA it is easy to see why the Decker House Hotel is an easy choice for anyone seeking a hotel with an experience beyond what most hotels can offer.

A friend and I stayed at the Decker House Hotel while visiting the Maquoketa Caves State Park. Opened in 1878, this historic hotel is a charming old building with an elegant interior design. We were greeted by the owner, Nathan, who kindly shared the history of the hotel. The stair case to our 3rd floor room was the centerpiece of the grand lobby and has been the setting for many wedding pictures through the years, according to Nathan. Our room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast in the dining room was "off the menu" and was a good start to our second day of hiking! The entire staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about the area and what it has to offer including restaurants, wineries and other things to do. I highly recommend the Decker House Hotel!

My sister and I absolutely loved this place. LOVED IT! It had so much character and took you back in time. It was super clean and you felt so at home there. Although we didn't bring any pets, this is a pet-friendly hotel. Our room had 2 beds but it was almost like we each had our own space. Like it was 2 rooms that they merged to make it one room with 2 beds. The bathroom was one of the cleanest bathrooms I've ever seen and I travel quite a bit. It also included breakfast. It has such a reasonable price and is not far from Dubuque. Just 30 minutes of easy 4-lane highway driving. There's the National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium. The Felelon Place Elevator and so many other fun things to do. Maquoketa is a quaint town with it's own restaurants and bars. The caves are always a fun thing to do and you are also pretty close to the Field of Dreams.

The hotel is beautiful and the room was spacious and comfortable. We stayed in early September 2021. It was after Labor Day so wasn't crowded. It's a cute little town with some good eateries and quaint shops. The caves nearby are a must see. Breakfast was fantastic. The staff was helpful and welcoming. We highly recommend this hotel.

Very nicely furnished and well run establishment. It is said to have ghosts but we didn't experience any. The rooms were all different and beautiful. The owners were lovely and treated us like family.
