It says 'solo' on the type of visit but this was a school trip and we were a group of 37 who visited this wonderful place in July. We had a lovely welcome from Paul who ensured, along with Hedat, his wonderful mum, that we were looked after throughout the trip. The bandas are in a superb location within a... More

Between various places in Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda and DRC, this is the best one I have visited. The grounds are gorgeous and you can walk right out into the Moruny river bed and see the surrounding mountains. It's a very quite, peaceful, and safe location with a 24 hour guard and enclosing fence. The staff was great and extremely helpful.... More

The self contained Bandas ( with showers and toilets) are large and spacious , the whole place is under great Acacia trees and the river is in five minutes walk. It is a great place and highly recommended for individuals as well as families, very comfortable but also part of nature. Dinners are superb! ( It is also easy to... More

Lovely place set amongst welcoming trees & forest next to the river. I had an amazing meal with cold beers with the owner & her son. A welcoming place to spend the night after the hot & dusty road from Lokichar before climbing the escarpment back towards Kapenguria & Kitale, the rooms are basic, on suit with good water supply.... After jostling and bouncing along the roads in Pokot-land, arriving at Marich Pass Field Studies Centre was a welcome respite. We pitched our tent next to the river and enjoyed a filling and healthy meal of rice and cabbage (they were out of beans). The camping facilities seemed that no one had stayed there in a very long while as... More

Having driven down the escarpment from Kapenguria or arriving back from Lodwar, this camp site offers weary travelers a wonderful place to stay. Situated on the bank of the Marun river, below the massive peaks of the High Cheranganis you can only be amazed by this awe inspiring landscape. In the late afternoon you will find ladies standing in the... More

This place was such a pleasant surprise. I was there with a team; most of whom opted for dormitory rooms which were clean & simple. I got a self-contained hut which was basic but very clean & comfortable. The whole homestead is set in some amazing ground, next to a roaring river. The food was however not basic. We were... More

One of the best places I stayed in Kenya. They have nice, comfortable self-contained huts in a huge garden near a river, cost ca. 20 USD, clean, very safe, good food.

I had such a relaxing and interesting stay at the Field Studies Centre that I am reluctant to recommend this treasure lest it become wildly popular and no longer a haven for travellers heading north! It provides a real bush experience. The bandas are simple, clean and very reasonably priced. There is also the choice of an outdoor shower for... More
