This is a guesthouse in a good location: just across from the market. It does now have WiFi although that works very slowly. There is a table at the front outside that I assumed I could sit at. The rooms are mostly clean, fairly typical for budget Lao guesthouses. I wouldn't bother booking in advance because unless there is a rush of visitors it is unlikely to be full. One unexpected plus point is the excellent water pressure in the shower.

We booked a nights stay at Lattanaphone Guesthouse through Agoda. When we turned up, the owner of Lattanaphone Guesthouse completely ignored that we had a booking, even when we had a local English speaking girl translate for us. After trying to convince the owner of this, and failing, since she continuously just pointed at 70000 kip, she even had the audacity to claim that this wasn't the right place, despite being written in big letters across the door. We think she earns money on scamming travelers like this on a regular basis.
When we eventually gave up and walked through the entire city, we didn't see anything resembling anything close to Lattanaphone Guesthouse.
The room were perhaps a 2/5 from what we saw, no service, not very clean.
If you find yourself in need of somewhere to stay in Viangxai, go to Thanakay (spelling might not be completely correct) guesthouse, directly opposite of Lattanaphone Guesthouse, on the other of the two roads leading to the main road from Viang Xai.

I spent two nights here and had everything I needed for a very little price. The Hotel does not offer any WIFI, so a local simcard is helpful. I showed up without a reservation and got a great local price.
